Jon Stewart takes on Occupy Wall Street critics: Watch!

If you suffer from Daily Show Emmy fatigue, watch Jon Stewart’s nine-minute takedown of Occupy Wall Street critics on last night’s show, and you’ll remember that just because the show’s annual win is predictable doesn’t mean that it’s not deserved.

I particularly enjoy his 21 Jump Street reference, his channeling of Seth Green’s character from Can’t Hardly Wait, the Sean Hannity fakeout, “They probably don’t even masturbate to the Constitution” (Stewart’s a better actor than he gives himself credit for), his translation of Ann Coulter comparing the protesters’ message “with only slight modification” to Nazis’, and his response to politicians and pundits who criticize protesters for not offering solutions (“Now I see why you’re mad at them for being muddled and incoherent, that’s your f—in’ job”).

And since you may want to watch that Hugh Jackman interview that Stewart teases at the start of the clip, here’s that, too.

Thankfully since true journalism doesn’t exist anymore we have Jon Stewart to keep it real.

Love Jon (and I totally applaud him for taking to task some of the more…erm, sensationalized news on TV) but reading an article in Esquire about how Jon tries to remain apolitical and above parody/blame while simultaneously promoting a political agenda and parodying/blaming others…it got me thinking. He’s not just doing comedy and satire anymore, it’s become a lot more real, but he still insists it’s comedy. How many takedowns has he had in the past couple of years? And how many of these would we be applauding if it wasn’t Jon, the comedian, taking them down? Still love him, but I look at him differently now.

Yeah, I love Jon Stewart but let’s get real.

He’s just as much of an ‘entertainer with an agenda’ as Ann Coulter is, he’s just more honest about that.

We still don’t have any real, non-partisan political commentators.

      • pastafarian

there’s no such thing as non-partisan.

Don’t know why people don’t understand the message, it’s very clear – NO MORE PROFIT OVER PEOPLE

“He’s not just doing comedy and satire anymore, it’s become a lot more real, but he still insists it’s comedy.”

All JS has ever claimed is that it’s comedy first, agenda last. And although that’s still true, he still gets all kinds of flak from people who assume he’s gearing up for a presidential run. I have a feeling that, 20 years from now, he’ll still be a comedian first.

All commentators have opinions, that is why they are commentators rather than news people. The are delivering their opinions which is what we want, not news that should be objective.

  • BlackVoid

Yeah, the objective news was quoted several times. That what you have to follow, dear lemmings.

The Revolutionary TEA PARTY was a protest AGAINST A GOVT TAX DECREASE, in order to benefit domestic organized crime tea smugglers who otherwise would have to lower their profits to compete.

The TEA PARTY was for higher prices to the tea drinkers and against lower prices to the common man, which could only benefit the small 1% at the top who imported illegal smuggled tea.

I really do keep up with politics and value Jon Stewart’s incisively honest work here, but can I just say:

Hugh Jackman is so utterly adorable!!!

Excuse me while I go watch him again, as a cure for my depression about the state of the world..
