Yesterday, my colleague Kate Ward bemoaned the fact that she still had yet to receive her District 5 badge from the country of Panem, i.e. the totalitarian nation at the center of The Hunger Games, Lionsgate’s wildly anticipated adaptation of the first book in Suzanne Collins’ wildly popular trilogy. To promote the film the titular games, Lionsgate The Capitol of Panem has put up a website at which visitors can register for one of the country’s 12 districts; this month, the site has started doling out those badges one District at a time, as well as the District’s corresponding Facebook page featuring the District’s unique seal representing that District’s specialty trade. (How many times can one say District in one sentence… District?) So far we’ve had mining (District 12), grain (District 9), textiles (District 8), lumber (District 7), and masonry (District 2).
And now EW can reveal the seal — as well as my specialized badge — for, yup, District 5. (Suck it, Ward!) [Ed. note: Save the trash talk for the Cornucopia.] This particular District has remained mysterious to many Hunger Games fans, since the most we’ve known about it was the mysterious female tribute in the 74th Hunger Games was nicknamed Foxface by District 12 tribute Katniss Everdeen. So what is District 5′s industry? Check out the badge and the full seal below to find out!
So what do you think, Hunger Games fans? Would I make a good geologist? Oh, and don’t you think it’s curious that while District 12′s main industry is coal mining, the seal for District 5 prominently features an atom, implying nuclear technology is what courses through Panem’s power lines?

I’m in District Twelve and I already have my badge. Anyone else?
I’m district 7 but the website will not move up and down to allow me to get my badge. It moves side to side. Anyone else hae this problem or know what I’m doing wrong.
Me too! I’m not sure what we are doing wrong. Glad I’m not the only one!
I work with geologists… you could totally pass.
District 3 started delivering the IPs yesterday
so you know
I went to sign up, but it requires Facebook. So, y’all have fun in the reaping, I’ll be over in District 13.
You’ve probably never heard of District 13, it’s so underground.
LOL – very meta!
You left out district 3, electronics!
Enough with the line through the words crap. Either say what you are trying to say or don’t. I mean really. God this site has the worst writers.
Then why do you keep reading? Keep your bitter anger and lack of a sense of humor to yourself.
Dike
I think you mean “Like,” Tim? I mean Like.
I signed up but never got assigned, never got a badge. Kinda bummed, because it made me go on Facebook, which I never like to do (I have one very old and inactive account; pathetic really). Totally jealous of your geology assignment–sounds cool.

I’m in 6, anyone know how/when we get our badges?
So am I! I want my badge. I feel left out. =[
