Casey Anthony's parents on 'Dr. Phil' season premiere: 'She's responsible for Caylee. That was her daughter.'

Dr. Phil launched its tenth season today with the much-promoted, exclusive interview with George and Cindy Anthony, their first public appearance since their daughter Casey was acquitted of first-degree murder.

Dr. Phil began the episode by touting the Casey Anthony story as “one of the biggest dramas to ever capture the nation’s attention” and spoke of how coverage of the case left him with more questions that answers. He is certainly not alone. Casey Anthony was found guilty of lying to police but beyond that, little is known of what actually happened.

Throughout the interview, Dr. Phil deftly tip-toed around overtly blaming Casey Anthony for the death of her daughter Caylee by referring to her involvement in the girl’s disappearance as “whatever it is she did.” By the end of Tuesday’s segment of the two-part interview, however, Dr. Phil’s opinion was less veiled. He quickly dismissed Cindy’s hypotheses of health disorders and postpartum schizophrenia, saying they were desperate reaches to excuse her daughter for wrongdoing. He also said that Casey Anthony would not be making an appearance on his show any time soon (read: ever).

“I have not and will not be interviewing Casey Anthony,” Dr. Phil said. “I have zero interest in doing so. I personally believe that her actions have spoken louder than any words.”

By her “actions,” Dr. Phil was referring to her behavior leading up to, during and after the disappearance of her child in which Dr. Phil says she created a “litany” and “elaborate menagerie” of lies, and, among other things, took part in a hot body contest and had the words “Bella Vita” tattooed on her body. Her mother, Cindy, attempted to justify some of this behavior. “For six months that Caylee was gone, I was devastated,” she said. “But during that time did I socialize with friends and maybe laugh once or twice at a joke? Yes. And if someone would have isolated that in a photograph and plastered it all over would I be just as guilty as Casey?”

But Dr. Phil remained skeptical. ”Cindy, you weren’t involved in the death,” he said. “What I see is a woman that has made a conscious decision to go to a bar within days of being in some way involved in the death and cover up of her child and I have a hard time framing that out in any other way.”

After listing off a series of lies perpetrated by Casey Anthony — her employment, her nanny, her friends, her activities, her theft of gas and cash from her parents and her un-established role in the disappearance of her child — he said, bluntly, “There is a point where you have to put on your list of possibilities that these are the behaviors of an unconscionable psychopath.”

For his part, George seemed more secure in pointing fingers. He never came out and said he believes Casey murdered her daughter (although the tease for the second part of the interview, airing on Wednesday, suggests he might), but he did seem willing to give credit where credit was due. ”Well, the last one I saw Caylee with was Casey,” he said. “To me, in my mind, that one and one adds up to two. She’s responsible for Caylee. That was her daughter.”

During Tuesday’s interview – which covered the time from Caylee’s birth to Casey’s arrest – Cindy said something that perhaps sums up the way most of America feels about the Caylee Anthony mystery. ”I wanted to go choke her or hit her and I just went over there and I just punched the bed as hard as I could to get my anger out,” Cindy said of hearing for the first time that Caylee was missing. “All I wanted was answers for Caylee and we didn’t have anything.”

We still don’t. We probably never will. In the eyes of the law Casey Anthony is innocent in her daughter’s death. It is certainly interesting to see the parents of one of the most hated people in America hinting, if not admitting, that their daughter is a guilty, lying psychopath, but the interview seems more like a chance for the Anthonys to get things off their chest, rather than clear the air.

What do you think PopWatchers? Did their answers seem honest and genuine? Is there anything that could possibly be said to make you change your minds about Casey Anthony?

I understand how Cindy feels you do not want to believe that your child could do anything like that. I feel for Cindy I hope she gets the answers that she needs to get through life. good luck Cindy

    • Hrafn Jónsson

I am a millionaire and there is a website where you can be swindled out of your money in the hopes of meeting me. Do a search. Oh, and the website employees a bunch of losers to spam all over the comment boards.

      • mindy

rich dude..what does this have to do with you..this is an article about parents of casey anthony..i think you are as bad as her daughter..noone wants to meet you anyhow…you are stuck on yourself..do not flatter yourself dumbass

      • Tom

She did it. Do we really need Dr Phil at this point? no, we don’t.

      • Vick

Dear Hrafn, Number one, how do you pronounce your name? Number two, don’t millionaire’s have better things to do than stalk Casey Anthony blogs? Number three, I would like to meet you and swindle your money from you. Have a nice day.

      • @Mindy

I think you missed the point, d*mbass.

      • Casey Anthony

I just wanted to say “thank all ya’ll” for sticking with me during the trial and the hard times and being my fans. It really means a lot to me and I hope to be coming to your town real soon!

      • RaRa

Hrafn, I get the humor in your spoof, and it really was clever, but it sounded close enough to the real thing that it was just as annoying. Sorry. Fail.

    • microfiche

I agree. That’s not to say I haven’t found Cindy so incredibly frustrating over the years, but it appears that she’s a little more reasonable about the events of June/July 2008. Unfortunately, I feel they will never know any more than they do right now. And though there is clearly something very wrong with their daughter, speaking as a person who actually has epilepsy – that’s not it.

      • M

Mom is sick & in denial. There are still alot of things that aren’t adding up. Most people do know right from wrong and would turn their kids in because they couldn’t live with themselves. I wouldn’t lie for my kid. They would need to live with their actions. If I thought my kid had a seisure…they’d be in for a scan asap. no excuses.

      • RaRa

Sick and in denial. Bingo. I wonder what is being done to help her through this. George needs to get her hooked up with a Psychologist/Psychiatrist team and get that woman some help!

    • people person

I’m sure people have either hinted at or come out and told Cindy Anthony that she is in denial about her daughter’s psychoses but in my opinion that is not the problem. I think she is probably afraid of her because Casey seems to “run” that household in spite of her father’s stricter words.

      • RaRa

Are you saying that Cindy is afraid that of what Casey might do to her (or George) if Cindy says what she really thinks happened? If that’s not what you meant, please explain, if you come back to this board.

    • Shade

I think the A -corn doesn’t fall far from the tree in this case. Cindy Has lied just as much as her daughter has. A murder is a murder! I dont care if it is your child! Casey should be locked away.. With a father as a cop and a mother as a nurse, Casey knew exactly what she was doing.. That family is a mess!!!

      • Janice Williams

My comment is that Cindy Anthony is in complete denial, wake up Ms. Anthony, your husband actually believes his daughter did what happen, so does most people…Baez knows it also, he was just trying to keep her from the death penalty…How sad for Caylee.

  • lady gapoo

this is boring. go listen 2 my new album where im the retarded motorcycle. ra ra oh la la pa pa flop u ga.

    • cg

How doyou NOT call the authorities sooner? Not that it would have helped. And then how do you live with yourself? Based on the story that Casey’s lawyers told, she has admitted some involvement in the baby’s death. So there is no way the parents can deny her guilt any longer.

    • k’breeze

PEOPLE LIKE YOU REALLY THROW ME! IF YOU DON’T LIKE READING OR HEARING ABOUT THESE TOPICS, SPEND YOUR TIME DOING SOMETHING ELSE INSTEAD OF READING OURS!! THAT SHOULD BE A NO BRAINER!![ FOR MOST PEOPLE]!! WOULD’NT YOU AGREE?? MAYBE NOT THO!!!!!!!!!

  • teresa lovellette

why does the mom still explain away reason if it where my daughter and my grandchild i would stop at nothing to bring caylee justice one way or another my child or not! there are worse things than death. and caycee would know that because she will live it.

    • Mr Eko

Actually, I think it pretty understandable and reasonable that a mother would try to protect and excuse and even justify her daughter’s actions even when the facts are so clearly against her.

  • Esox

    Casey’s Hot

    • reppans

      and you are stupid

      • lady gapoo

        and u are reppans-pooplu

    • @Esox

Go do your homework so u don’t have to repeat 8th grade again!

      • MARIE

Love your comment @Exoc—first laugh I’ve had today.

    • Mr Eko

There’s no denying that Casey is hot. She may be a sociopathic spawn of satan who deserves to die a slow, agonizing death, but the fact is that she is very attractive.

      • pat

you say that you are a lawyer and you make these kind of remarks. you must be a bad lawyer to wish death on someone that you don’t no

      • etm

Really? Casey is such a butterface. She looks like a cartoon dog when she smiles. Her daughter, however, was beautiful.

      • microfiche

I keep reading that from men, and i just don’t really see it. Maybe it’s the big boobs? I think she is attractive, but not beautiful or anything. Men seem to think everyone is hot.

      • Phillygemini526

LOL@Butterface…sheesh. But anyways, it’s sad and we will probably never know what happened EVER very sad…this is almost the equivalent of the Natalie Holloway case..we know she did it can’t prove it and what’s messed up is that if things ever do surface, they can’t charge her again for murder double jeopardy… unbelievable this is sickening

      • fancypants

Not really. I honestly think Casey looks like a wolf. That’s all I can see when I look at her face.

      • texas99

        She looks like a baboon

    • Esox

My point and Mr. Eko’s are the same. Can’t the rest of you have a subjective take on an objective issue? I don’t care if she killed her baby, my baby and 14 puppies, she’s physically hot.

      • mimi

She has a horse face…not hot. Face is a 5, figure is an 8. 13 out of a possible 20 does not =HOT

      • Arnold Rich

Yes She’s HOT. How long do you think you could keep up the love affair. You may also dissapear for 32 days!

      • Kio

She’s the devil in disguise. If you are so shallow, so be it. I look at her and see pure evil.

      • Jenna

No way. Her face is horsey. Not cute at all. Nice body though.

    • guru

Sort of in an O.J. is hot kind of way! yuck!!

  • Chacha

This family is soooo disfunctional. I will pray for them. They all will have to face the maker one day with the “truth”.

    • Mr Eko

How are the parents dysfuntional. Their daughter is a deeply disturbed, cold blooded murderer, but she is still their child and they are instinctively trying to protect her by excusing and even justifying her actions. Completely rational behavior from loving parents

      • Cindy

Loving parents would not protect a murder. Instead of them covering up for her and making excuses what they needed to do to help their daughter was to make sure she for once was punished for her actions and behavior. That is why she killed her own child is because she has never been punished for her actions. – I also think Cindy and George should have never allowed Caycee to take that child out of the house by herself. I am sure they knew what she was capable of and I am sure they had seen abuse towards to the child by her mother. This is not something that happen just once.

    • rose

The Anthonys are a normal family that has ONE psycho member. Any mom would want to believe that their child could never kill their baby. That’s human. The dad, being a victim of his daughter’s lies, sees his daughter with more clarity than his wife does.

      • nicole

THIS family was NOT normal. George admitted he had a 4 year gambling problem and Cindy said he had a secret 2nd life…spent 30,0000 of the family money. Sound familiar???

      • Naycon

Yup, I agree. It’s a shame how these people were so harshly judged, especially after all they hve been through.

  • Linda Kelly

Personally I believe Casy is Bipolar – to begin – with a touch of social disorder

    • Lauren

There’s no such thing as “social disorder.”

      • RaRa

@Lauren – I interpreted Linda Kelley to mean “antisocial personality disorder”.

    • Mellissa

From what I’ve seen of her on the TV, whatever is wrong with Casey, it’s not bi-polar. I base this on my experience with a bi-polar family member, who is not a liar or a baby killer.

  • Nerwen Aldarion

Blame the jury…how do you give her an innocent verdict and then admit that you think she was guilty after the fact? That defies logic.

    • Mr Eko

I feel compelled to respond since I’m a lawyer. Just thinking someone is probably guilty (which is what the jurors now claim) is not sufficient to convict in a criminal court. You must believe that someone is guilty beyond all reasonable doubt. There was no concrete evidence presented at the Anthony trial to meet this very high burden of proof.

      • microfiche

I agree with you about the murder one, but I’m pretty sure there was more than enough to convict her of manslaughter. We know (and by her own omission) she neglected to call the paramedics. She did not help the child, at all. It is possible to resuscitate a person who was drowned. She should be criminally responsible for her inaction. There is no dispute that she did not act. People have been found guilty of manslaughter for the same scenario of inaction many, many times.

      • microfiche

        i meant “admission”, not “omission”

      • mimi

Yeah we know you’re a lawyer…you’ve said it a few times

      • Kio

Others have been convicted on far less evidence. I agree the prosecutors made a mistake seeking 1st degree murder but I would have sought the same seeing as how she doesn’t deserve to live after such a crime. A lot of publicity. Seems to have worked against them plus the lead prosecutor was overly confident. Dumb jurors IMHO.

      • KYLEE

YOU’RE RIGHT. BUT NOT ALL EVIDENCE WAS ALLOWED TO BE PRESENTED EITHER. MAYBE IT WOULD HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE, MAYBE NOT. “A jury consists of twelve persons chosen to decide who has the better lawyer.” ~Robert Frost

      • jackie

after getting “caught up” in the Simpson trial only to be so very disappointed at the verdict, I feel once again that history has repeated itself during the Anthony trial. Something needs to be changed with the jury system. Did they clearly understand the meaning of a circumstantial case? Did they know the diff between a doubt and a reasonable doubt? I surely doubt it!!!

      • susan star

the mother is responsible to know where her children are at all times especially since there was no father. 31 days of missing child and lies = guilty. and i originally felt sorry for cindy, but no more . i believe she is also a pathological liar. the apple didn’t fall to far from the tree.

    • rose

They couldn’t prove how Caylee died. If you can’t prove it was murder, you can’t find Casey guilty of murder. The jury believes that whatever happened, Casey was responsible. But without proof of what exactly happened, it was impossible to pinpoint what charge she was guilty of.

      • microfiche

We know that she actually didn’t call the paramedics. So, that is manslaughter. She was responsible for that child. There is no evidence to suggest the the child was in anyone else’s care but hers, with exception of that ridiculous defence theory (which wasn’t in evidence). Manslaughter.

      • 123

You are a tard. They convict people of murder without having a body somethimes.

      • susan star

the sad thing is she got away with murdering her child…watch the news as more stupid asses do the same thing . kill their kids and then lie about it. and then use this case as a precident . oh what a world.?

    • emf

They ddin’t give her an innocent verdict. They found her not guilty of murder one based upon the evidence presented. HUGE difference.

      • Mellissa

They also found her not guilty on lesser death charges, like manslaughter. They found her not guilty on any charges of child abuse. Fine about the death, but c’mon, your baby daughter dies, on your watch, and instead of doing something about it, you lie and bury her in the woods? That’s…not good parenting.

      • Shade

You go to prison for killing an animal but kill a baby and you walk free. IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • k’breeze

      i agree totally!! nerwen,

  • kim in kentucky

Wonder if they’ll use the money they received to hunt for the “real” killer ????

    • @kim in kentucky

Dr. Phil didn’t pay them. They did ask him to donate to a children’s charity that has been founded in Caylee’s name.

      • @@kim in kentucky

A non-profit which they can draw salaries from…

      • Mellissa

Well, they did state that they don’t (and won’t) recieve any money from the charity. And on that point, I believe them.

    • k’breeze

personally, I TRULY BELIEVE CASEY DID IT AND WITH HELP!!!!!!! NO BRAINER THERE!!!! ,HUH???

  • kris

    More questions THAN* answers.ok thanks

  • pat

when is everybody going to leave this alone. it is over. and i don’t no what good it does to keep talking about. Casey don’t have to tell anyone anything. she is free to do what she wants. you people that keep this going need to get a life.

    • Mr Eko

Well then . . . if that’s your view, why the hell are you talkin about it? Jackass.

      • Vick

        Mr. Eko………you crack me up……….

      • k’breeze

OR EVEN READING OUR COMMENTS??? GO SOMEPLACE ELSE IF YOU DON’T LIKE THIS SITE!!!!! THAT’S A NO BRAINER ALSO!! DO YOU ALL NOT AGREE????

    • @pat

Thanks for helping to keep this going by posting here.

      • pat

just want to let everyone who the Jackass is

    • Kio

Shut up Pat. I get so sick of comments saying it’s over, get over it, stop feeding the beast. We have a right to discussion regardless of your opinion and you have a right not to read. IMO your being on this post shows you too are interested in this story. It was a miscarriage of justice in a lot of people’s opinion so we want to post comments. Get over it.

      • Jenna

        Are you Kiomarie Torres?

      • Jenna

        Kio… Are you Kiomarie Torres?

  • pat

I don’t no what DR PhiL thinks he is going to find out. it don’t matter. she was found not gulity . so nothing that is said matters. it is over let it rest.

    • @pat

Get a dictionary and a basic English grammer book. While you’re at it, look up the word hypocrite in the dictionary.

      • pat

I think it was clear enough about who the jackass is . the one who is saying he is a lawyer.

      • Vick

Look up “know” in relation to “no” also………big difference

      • Laura K.

It’s funny when people who don’t know how to spell grammar correct others.

      • Jenna

        I think you mean “grammar”.

  • Tranzchick

Casey Anthony should do the world a favor and “disappear” Dr. Phil.

    • pat

you and everyone else need leave her alone and get your own life.

      • @pat

We have a life! Poor little Caylee won’t get to grow up and have a life because of that B*TCH! Stop defending her or people will think u are a baby killer too!!!

      • Tranzchick

pat ~ I’m not picking on the woman. Frankly I have no feelings about her what-so-ever. I didn’t follow the trial and don’t care if she did or didn’t do it. I just really hate Dr. Phil.

  • Molly Heart

I have been on board (in a big way) that KC is guilty of murder 1. But, I now think it’s possible that she could have been too busy looking in the mirror or something and not watching her daughter (as she is soooo vain) and something happened to the little girl (drowing or whatever) and then she tried to call her mother 6 times in 4 minutes. When she couldn’t or wouldn’t tell CA what happened, she could have just freaked and bagged little Caylee and eventually dumped her in the woods. She is definitely guilty of something…we know that she drugged her with chloroform to make her sleep so she could go out with her boys. She is definitely a sick wacko because no one who is sane does what she did, even if it was an accident, she was responsible for it and what she did and said afterwards…just mho

  • johnb

no parent is going to say they daughter did this crime. they will never tell the truth. only casey knows and she will never let anyone learn it. she can hide the rest of her lifeit still wont change the facts.

  • anne

Cindy lied during the trial. Her elaborate lies regarding her computer searches for chloroform/ use of computer at home for this purpose, etc, and being home rather than at work during the questionable hours, were all exposed. The details of those lies, and the style of embellishment of those lies was mirrored in the lies told by her daughter throughout this whole sordid case. This is no coincidence. This is learned behavior…. mother to daughter. There is serious pathology in this family. The daughter may be a sociopath. The mother utilizes her nursing background to raise artificial medical justifications for her daughter’s clear aberrant behavior.
