Project Runway consistently serves up some of the most vile/awesome stinkfaces on television. Last night’s episode, which had the contestants designing for evil overlord Nina Garcia, was no exception. Vote below for the week’s best.
Some context: Contestant Olivier (bottom right) has just learned that Bert, who is sitting directly next to him, didn’t realize he was in the room. It happens!
My ‘Project Runway’ recap: The Empress Nina Has No Clothes

So Nina said she hated bright colors and big patterns, yet she was wearing a safety orange shirt with a tunic that, I swear to you, had Swastikas on it. She’s a tool.
I knew that the names Heidi was calling out would be the best and worst when she called Viktor’s name. Of course, silly me, I thought Viktor would end up in the BOTTOM 3 for his ridiculous black dress with the sleeves that were miniscule yet sharp enough to poke out an eye. While I really did like Kimberly’s winning outfit, two other dresses that I really loved – Becky’s and Laura’s – were once again deemed only “middle-of-the-pack.” I’m also wondering how long Anya’s luck will hold out. At some point, no one will be in a position (or disposition) to help her with her sewing issues.
really? This week she got behind and maybe more sewing experience would have helped her move faster, but when before has she had trouble? I can’t think of a time (some vague memory is popping up from 2nd episode but I don’t remember it specifically and she pulled off something nice in the end). Yesterday’s problem seemed like a time management issue, not a sewing problem. She’s proven she can sew very well.
Laura’s design was my favorite and Becky’s was really well-made. I’m glad I’m not the only one that wasn’t crazy about Viktor’s outfit. I thought it made his model look like she had no neck.
I really like Viktor’s. I would totally wear it, but I did not think it was really fashion forward – more like fashion now. I liked KImberly’s, but did not love it. I liked Becky and Laura’s but did not think they were original or the best either.
Viktors outfit was boring as all hell and that seam on the skirt was very… unseemly.
A recap would be nice EW.
Go to project rungay – two guys who dish each episode in depth – great site.
Which one? There’s too many!
Ask and you shall receive dee123 – just look – geesh
When i checked almost an hour & a half before your comment moron it wasn’t there yet.
There are two links to the recap in the article. The image is also a link to the recap.
LOL. Oh, Annie, it must pain you guys to read through these sometimes. But hopefully you’ve read the stats on commenters, how it’s a relatively small, stupid, boisterous and unemployed sector of the reading population.
Nah, it’s okay. Computer class is tough!
Dee, what an absolute delight you are!
If on Nina will wear some make-up and style her hair, that outfit would have really stood out. The woman does nothing to make herself look [at least] attractive.
She has a high powered position and critiques designers, yet is in need of the biggest make-over of all!
Oh, Oliver all of the way. It’s hilarious because I didn’t think he could possibly feel anger. But if that face doesn’t say “I will cut you,” I don’t know what does. Leave it to Bert…
I don’t normally post comments here, but I have to post some love for Rene’s and Shannon’s comments above. Spit out my Diet Coke on ‘swastikas’ and ‘cut you’. My thoughts were exactly the same. Bert should be happy if finishes the season without one of the other designers injuring him. Nina Garcia as a customer was priceless and much more practical than designing clothes out of dog food. Thank God they didn’t jump the shark & make her model too. And how many other ways could that other Marie Claire hag have said “Y’all know Nina works for me, right?” without actually saying it. I kept hoping Nina’s hand would come from off screen and slap that chick silly.
Joanna Coles had the BEST stinkface when Cecilia’s AWFUL dress came out. Where is she????
Is it bad that I can’t wait for Oliver to wipe out trying to run a lap on the track next week and then stare at the ceiling, Ferris Bueller-style?
Once again PR shows me that I obviously have no fashion sense. I liked what Kimberly did but it was not my favorite at all. I really like Anya’s jumpsuit and Josh’s dress, it had drama.
I thought Bryce’s horribly hemmed puffy at the seams down the middle front of the dress was a sure loser. Worse than Laura’s “droat”. I liked Laura’s rack of clothes she brought to the auditions, but I knew they wouldn’t translate to PR too tree huggery.
I’m I the only person who does not like Oliver’s creations?!?!? And I hate those freakin sweaters he wears, please take them off NOW.
Yes! Why is someone so young dressing up like Bill Cosby!!
Olivier…that face was grim!
I don’t remember if Bert said he thought Oliver was in the Bottom 3 or Top 3 before finding out he was right next to him. With Anthony Ryan and Laura last week, the designers are really absentminded about who they sit next to.
Either way, just goes-to-show Bert can’t get Olivier off his mind. Every time Bert looks at him there is a thought-bubble screaming “Oooh! A Bright Young Thing!”
His face is no more grim than that completely fake accent he tries to throw out there each week. I hope his fall on the track next week knocks that phoney, obnoxious accent out of his mouth.
I know, what is that accent!! It is sooooo obviously made up.
Someone else pointed out he sounds uncannily like Stefon, from SNL and it truly does bring another dimension to the show to appreciate that fact. http://www.nbc.com/saturday-night-live/video/weekend_update__stefon/1255801
It was me! He totally does. I’m glad someone else see it too!
It’s not just the whispery voice but his whole demeanor… so funny.
I don’t get it. The woman shows pictures of herself in the ugliest BLACK outfits ever. She tells everyone that she doesn’t do sparkly, etc. and the winner is a sparkly gold blouse – I truly thought she was going to be in the bottom three for not following directions. That beige dress, though, looked like a burlap sack. I hate Bert from being a d–k last week and can’t wait for him to be thrown off – he totally threw that kid under the bus last week.
Can we talk about the word “sad”? Surely, surely, I say to you, fabulous fashionistas like Heidi, Michael and Nina can come up with another word to describe distressing outfits besides Sad. I’ve heard the word so many times on PR that I’m banning myself from using it for 48 hours! The English language is old, varied, exciting; it pulls other languages and is ever-new and rich in its complexity. Please H-M-N … find .. another .. word.
…..it pulls FROM other languages …
Loved the blouse Nina had on during judging. Anyone know where to get it? ps – ur comments are cracking me up!
Well, in these photos, I’d say Heidi’s is the funniest but I voted for Nina because on Thursday, *quantity* trumps quality. And I don’t know, I hate to say it, but I really hated the look Annie loved so much (Joshua’s?). Sorry!
