Sofia Vergara's next role: Politician's wife?

Forget Jackie O. Move over, Michelle Obama. If Sofia Vergara’s boyfriend has his way, the Modern Family actress will be the newest style-setter inside the Beltway by 2013, reports the Palm Beach Post. Banking heir and environmental consultant Nick Loeb, Vergara’s boyfriend of a year, is considering running for a U.S. Senate seat from Florida next year. Said Loeb of his potential campaign, “The Emmys are Sept. 18 and I’ll probably make a decision after that.” Glad he’s got his priorities straight!

Loeb Tweeted that he might look “more closely” at running after his strongest competitor quit the race early this week, and he told the Post, “Now that [Republican state senator] Mike Haridopolos has dropped out of the race I’m sure there’s going to be other people who are interested in running. I probably won’t be making a decision until sometime after Labor Day. I would say more toward the end of September… Right now I’m supporting Sofia and her career.”

That’s not to say Vergara isn’t supportive of Loeb’s political aspirations. If anything, the Colombia native would be a boon for his constituency of Hispanic voters. And men with pulses.

But let’s get down to brass tacks on this one. How might a campaign affect Vergara’s role on Modern Family, most especially the voluptuous star’s fashion sense? Famous for showing off her curves, will will the small-screen sex symbol have to button it up for this new role as Capitol Hill leading lady? We certainly hope not.

Are you looking forward to seeing Vergara on the campaign trail?

I don’t want to jump to any conclusions here but a “republican environmental consultant” sounds like some pro-business ant-environmental sleaze. It makes me a bit sad for SV.

    • Redeyecat

It’s sad you decided to jump to a conclusion right after you said you didn’t want to. Now I feel a bit sad for your intellect.

      • Chris

        HA! Love it!

      • Alrisha6

        jajajaja so good!

      • Michael Compton

That was truly a weak response, Redeye – though certainly typical. That a republican would be less than sincere in their stated desire to protect the environment is a perfectly reasonable assumption to make. To assume otherwise, despite having the last 30+ years of legislative history to examine, would be absurd. Endless reams of state and federal legislation make their perpetual prioritization of profit over people and their environments abundantly clear. One doesn’t rise high in the republican ranks of one puts environmental concerns over profit. Obfuscate as you like – but that, my friend, is an empirical fact.

        Well said, DC.

      • Redeyecat

Michael Compton, do you really think Republicans hate clean air and water along with all things nature? Are you really so close-minded to think it is impossible to value the environment but to believe in a different interpretation of balance than you do? Just because something is billed as “for the environment” doesn’t make it the best solution and doesn’t mean it actually benefits the environment at all. Being smart and practical doesn’t make one an enemy of the environment. And your effort to demonize Republicans is as transparent as you are shallow.

      • Chris

“That a republican would be less than sincere in their stated desire to protect the environment is a perfectly reasonable assumption to make.”

Since neither you nor DC have shown “empirical facts” on Mr. Loeb’s activities, it might be best to do some research before you pull a “Contessa Brewer.”

      • Eric

You know, I look down at Republicans as much as the next guy but the fact that you’d rather talk about that than Sofia Vergera proves you guys have problems.

    • Michael

i didn’t see where it said he was a republican, though

      • grasp on the obvious

“Now that [Republican state senator] Mike Haridopolos has dropped out of the race” …means he will look to run in Haridopolos’ place as a (R).

    • Bill O

I agree with DC – Republican environmentalism means take take take. I hope she ditches this guy, so Hispanics DO NOT vote for him. A Republican looking out for minorities… gimme a break!

      • g

        Sad but true.

      • kate middleton

You people are insane. Just because he’s a Republican (which EW glossed over in the article), then Sofia shouldn’t be with him? Ridiculous.

      • Eric

Yes, Kate. They’re saying that because Republicans are all douche bags that she can do better. I’ve met really awesome Republicans though they’re awesome for reasons other than their political opinions. haha.

      • ruby

Bill you’re a moron. There are plenty of Republicans who are minorities. Marco Rubio and Michael Steele to name a few. So to say Republicans don’t look out for those groups is absurd. We just want them as well as whites to look out for themselves, rather than keep them dependent on government like Democrats wish.

      • mike

What are you, a mindless idiot who gets told what to think by what the media says? So sad.

    • Sharlin

Yeah Sofia lost cool points for dating a Republican!

      • melo

Sofia gains cool points for dating a Republican.

      • grasp on the obvious

..Sofia gains points when she pulls a J-Lo and then we trolls can believe we have a shot dating her. Especially since Halle Berry isn’t returning my calls :)

  • sam

She’s nothing but an asset. No matter what the media might want you to believe, not all Republicans are the same.

    • Dominic

No some are evil while others are merely vile.

      • sam

I’d love to read the facts that support your hypothesis.
People are people. They are not defined by how the media portrays them.

      • whatevs

I hate to break it to you Dominic, but evil and vile are human traits, not Republican traits. Every person on this earth has evil in them and you would be extremely sheltered and naive to think otherwise.

    • Jim from Saint Paul

Or maybe, just maybe, he thinks she’s hot and would like to have lots of sex with her. I know, CRAZY!

    • DVj8

Leave it to a Republican to hurl the first insult. Ruby Marco Rubio and Michael Steele ? These guys are your best examples ? These two have done more to hurt the people who vote them any left winger has ever done. They always protect the super rich. I agree that the republican party has moved beyond race… They have moved on to 50% of the United States ! They hate anyone who belives in real Freedom!! All they care about are jesus loving rich people . And the best part is they fooled the poor tea party folks into voting against there best intrests! All the information they get is from FOX and the right wing radio sphere. The problem is that they have a problem with facts..They dont believe in them. They would rather make stuff up.

  • Joe

Anyone else find it ironic that there is a “Got Milk?” Ad behind her boobs?

    • Winnie50

That is the first thing I notice when I saw the picture. Talk about product placement…

    • Michael

fake boobs got no milk, though

      • OMagic7

Sorry Michael. Not fake. 100% real and gorgeous

    • Mitch

That’s not ironic, but yes, it’s pretty funny.

  • HD

My gawd, her breasts are huge. I know that’s a running joke on the show but I’ve never seen them so out there like that.

    • jujubeans

Like to bury my nose in her cleavage! ( . )( . )

    • annieTX

      Their trying to escape.

  • Leo

The things I would do to those boobs…

    • Michael

      motorboat ‘em for sure

  • mostboringseasonever

I just wish this woman would go away. She’s so over the top and fake. I just can’t watch her.

  • fancypants

she’s not married to the guy so she wouldn’t become a politician’s wife.

    • Sam

That was my first thought too.

    • estraya

yOUR PARAGRAPH STRUCTURE AND SPELLING NEED IMPROVEMENT nARRIDIN.

  • NURRADIN

estraya, so do your maners douche bag.

  • peggy

He doesn’t specifically say he is a Republican, but since he mentions the Republican who is not running, I think it’s a safe assumption that he is a Republican. As a Floridian who has watched the Republicans try to sell our natural resources to the highest bidder, I agree with DC.

    • kate middleton

He is a Republican. Pretty funny that EW glossed over that in the article. Don’t want someone as cool/popular/hot as Sofia associated with Republicans? Your bias is showing.

      • Mitch

I agree. On the other hand,if EW didn’t want people to associate her with being a Republican, they could have left that part of the quotation out of the article.

      • kate middleton

You’re right, Mitch. But it’s kind of ambiguous since they mention one of the challengers who recently dropped out is a Republican. You know if Nick Loeb was a Dem, it would be mentioned front and center.

  • Old But Not Dead

The republican party has not had a sane person in it since 1956… I miss Ike. We would not have to this conversation about republicans being bad for America if we had a few like Ike or even TR. Ike created the Intersate Highway System and the middle class. TR created the National Parks System. Todays G.O.P. wants destroy both. Maybe he will be a better republican than what we have now. This bunch did something to me that I never thought possible….They made me a Democrat !

  • DVj8

Thanks to the felon gov Rick Scott no republican has a chance in Florida…So this whole article in pointless…

  • DVj8

    is pointless
