'Friends With Benefits'/'No Strings Attached' mash-up trailer: Same premise... same movie?!

If you saw the trailer for the upcoming Justin Timberlake/Mila Kunis comedy Friends with Benefits and thought to yourself, “Hmm, haven’t I seen this before, except it starred Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman and it was called No Strings Attached?”, we wouldn’t blame you, friend-o! In fact, you needn’t look further than the meticulously edited FWB/NSA mash-up trailer of the two 2011 comedies to see that just about everything from the glossy love affairs that don’t end in bitterness to the wacky sidekicks to even wackier parents, is strikingly similar. To be fair, we can’t really say how much Friends With Benefits resembles No Strings Attached, since the former has yet to hit the big screen yet (we’ll have to wait until July 22). But as long as the line “I’m warning you, if you take one step closer, I’m never letting you go” doesn’t wind up in Friends With Benefits, I’ll automatically consider it the better of the two.

Watch the full trailer below and see if you can tell the difference between the flicks. Tell me PopWatchers, is this the best been-there-done-that trailer this year or does that title still belong to the Hangover 1 and 2 mash-up? I smell a new Golden Trailer category!

No Strings Attached actually surprised me, I enjoyed it. But Friends with Benefits looks substantially better.

  • Adle

Watched the first one (it was meh). The second one looks just as dumb.

  • Mr. Holloway

    This was amusing enough.

However, not including a shot of Portman and Kunis making out in “Black Swan” was a MAJOR missed opportunity.

    • Lindsay Marshall

      GENIUS. Agreed.

      • DTO

I concur with Mr. Holloway. Bravo, sir.

    • Rob

Or throw in some random Kutcher/Kunis scene from “That 70s Show” to really make your head explode

      • Mr. Holloway

        I like it!

  • Batman

I made this video in the batcave.

  • Ant

I’ve actually seen both, since I was invited to a sneak preview of
“Friends With Benefits”, and I have to say they are not really alike. The premise of both movies is the same, sure, but the movies as a whole are different. I enjoyed “No Strings Attached” a lot but “Friends With Benefits” is smart, HILARIOUS, and the chemistry between Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis is off the charts.
If you want a movie that is fun for both males and females, I’d strongly suggest the latter.

More crap for the idiot masses.

  • Hola

    Mila is amazingly hot!!!!!!!!!!
Wow. Break me off a piece of that!

  • Aly

I saw Friends with Benefits last night and I agree with Ant, FWB was hilarious and far better than No Strings.

  • sam

    FWB has a better cast.

  • Jim

At least JT can act. Ashton is at his best when he’s silent…which is why I like him in those TV commercials.

  • Erin

I was pleasantly surprised by NSA, but I can’t wait to see Friends with Benefits-it looks awesome.

  • Caroline

No Strings Attached was ok, I’m hoping Friends With Benefits will be better.

  • Stephanie

I’ll watch anything with Justin Timberlake in it.

    • Josip

it made her, so we kinda think nothing is going on with them. Then again, other suercos report that Timberlake was not only obsessed with Kunis while they were filming, but that he also hooked up with Olivia Munn and Rihanna over the past

  • SB

No Strings Attached is one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen, and that was the consensus among the entire group I was with.

  • Mother Nature

It looks totally different, JT is likable and Mila Kunis is hilarious. Not so much with the other two terribly mismatched stars. Timberlake and Kunis have obvious chemistry, and I will certainly see the movie.
