'So You Think You Can Dance': And the eliminated contestants are...

Anyone who was secretly hoping that LMFAO would perform an elaborate hip-hop remix of “Aba Daba Honeymoon” while Debbie Reynolds danced with Rage Crew was probably a little bit disappointed during tonight’s episode of So You Think You Can Dance. Also disappointed: the four contestants who absolutely had to be eliminated tonight in the wake of last week’s controversially elimination-free episode. Six dancers were on the chopping block, and in the end, only two could be saved:  [SPOILERS FROM HERE]

Ryan was saved despite a not-so-great dance-for-your-life routine, while Ricky was specifically saved because he performed a great routine. That meant Missy, Nick, Wadi, and Iveta all went home. (Still unclear: If Iveta was helped or hurt by the decision to wear January Jones’ X-Men uniform.)

I’m working on the full episode recap now. In the meantime, what did you think about the judges’ decision? And did you enjoy when the helpful Gatorade health inspector taught us all a valuable lesson about sweating?

Can I say BS? I believe I can. Why tell Iveta & Missy they were good in their routines, & then keep Ryan when she wasn’t? But then keep Ricky because he was? Hello, what sense does that make?!

    • Molly

It doesn’t. But they’ve been “pimping” Ryan since the beginning and from American Idol experience we all know once Nigel decides who he likes, that’s how it goes.

      • AshleyBrooke

Exactly! If he liked her so much, he should’ve put her on last season then. Ugh! I was like what an idiot to say 4 couples have to go this week, & then to keep her after what he said to Iveta & Missy REALLY ticked me off.

      • LorLor

Exactly I am pissed. If they want to have a show for only contempory dancers than they should advertise it that way. To get rid of the only tappper and the only ballroom dancer that is bunk! especially when they are superior to other dancers on the show, BS. Shame.

      • LorLor

PS My irritation accounts for the spelling!

      • Sissy

Exactly why the ratings are dropping. People are getting tired of Nigel controlling everything

      • RR

Nick is a star. To cut him? Stupid.

      • Sara

The judges will probably keep Ryan through Top 10, but once it becomes all audience votes she’s likely going to go home. I find the incessant mugging for the cameras increasingly off putting.

      • beastiegirl

Yes! So tired of having Ryan shoved down our throats – her ending up in the bottom should have been a wake-up call. Iveta rocks my world

      • dmarie

Nick is not the only tapper, Jess is actually wonderful at tapping and supposedly 2 girls too, so we may be surpised!

    • Rielle

Can you say “Lauren Alaina”????!!! Nigel Lythgoe drives me crazy with his BLATANT pimp jobs. He keeps Ricky, ok I get—not a fan, but he danced his A$$ off. He specifically tells Ryan she did not have a strong solo, yet keeps her????!!!! What. The. He((.????

    • CH

Nigel didn’t say that Ryan was bad in her routine, he said that she could’ve done better. They have high hopes for her. Having said that, I thought other than her opening move her solo was about a C+.

    • Lola

Oh yes you can. So incredibly disappointed with the judges’ decision. No dance diversity left. And Iveta and Nick were saddled with Bollywood. It worked with Katee and Joshua because they had weeks of dancing together plus a fan following. But Nigel will blame the viewers for not voting. Nope – the blame rests solely on Nigel (because you just know he made the decision). Remember the good ol’ days when we had ballroom dancers who have become stars on DWTS? Now we just have jazz/contemp and bboys left. Snore. And they wonder why the ratings have dropped. Duh. So mad and so disappointed.

      • Lola

BTW on Twitter Travis expressed his deep disappointment and called out the judges for not sending two home last week. Good for him.

      • AK

And most of these jazz and contemporary dancers are technically perfect, but emotionally inspiring. Their boring, trick-filled solos just prove that. I would rather watch someone who moves me with their dancing than a million perfect arabesque extensions. Unfortunately, when you stack the show with 18- and 19-year-olds, the maturity level of the performances really suffer.

      • AK

        Make that “emotionally uninspiring.” Sorry.

      • Delon

Completely agree with Lola and AK.

    • Nita Norris

Totally agree. Ryan was bad last night and tonight and Iveta, despite her costume choices, clearly should have stayed.

      • Come on now

Completely agree. I’m glad everyone else does as well. Ryan’s solo was horrible and if your suppose to be dancing for your life then she died a thousand deaths. Its so unfair when they judge based on the dance the night before because partnering, type of dance, and choreography are all a factor. It should be completely based on what they do alone in that 30 seconds or else its unfair. What sucks even more is that they should have gotten rid of Jesse or Robert last week, instead of cutting two great couples this week. Its only the second show and I’m already annoyed as hell.

    • regguy

Yes – exactly! I was screaming at my TV (like an idiot- I know). I know the “dance for your life” bit is a bunch of baloney, but at least try to pretend it means something. How can that British twit sit there and say “You’re staying because your solo sucked” and then 90 seconds later say “You’re staying because your solo was so good.” Did he think no-one would notice? Does he think we are that stupid? How could he embarrass us like that in front of Debbie?

  • Kira

    Im upset about the eliminations

    • Katja

I’m not pleased, either. They picked the two most boring dancers out of that group to stay. I don’t understand. Ryan is a good dancer, but not a great performer yet, while Iveta brings something different to the table compared to the remaining dancers. Ricky has made zero impression on me so far, whereas Wadi can do some very exciting stuff (though he didn’t stuff his solo as full of them as maybe he ought to have) and Nick is like Iveta – a different presence in the competition, with his goofy charm and the fantastic tapping. So much for a tap routine for him and one of the 4 girls who can tap, I guess. How boring that they kept some rather bland contemporary dancers and cut out some more interesting dancers from unusual genres.

      • katie

        MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY.
you couldn’t have summarized my thoughts any better.
        we ought to retaliate.
if ryan wins, this whole thing is just madness!

      • mike

Nigel talks a good game about getting tappers in the top 20, but does NOTHING to support them once there. In fact, he almost immediately tosses them out on their rears.

      • Claudia

I was so mad. I agree completely. I thought that either Iveta or Missy were going to be saved. On the guys, I thought Nick would be saved. What a disappointing decision. Very biased.

    • Natalie

They get rid of the only ballroom dancer, the only tap dancer and the only free runner…leaving us with mostly contemporary dancers and a couple b-boys…boring! And they keep Ryan who had the blandest solo (looks like every other melodramatic contemporary solo). Pathetic!

  • Levente

I am so mad at Nigel for not kicking someone off last week. Way to fix it to where “your” people get to stay. Boo. Very disappointed in these results.

    • VCI

I must be the only one happy about the non-elimination last week. I loved all the girls in the bottom 3. And the only guy I wanted to see go was Jess, and knew that wouldn’t happen just like i knew there was no way ryan was going home

      • HLJS

I know what is up with Nigels love of the two most annoying dancers, Jesse and Ryan. Why does he have this obsession with Jesse especially, cause the guy is a total jerk. And Ryan’s solo was wack. But I do love Ricky and think he is the strongest technical dancer in the competition. I was so happy that they kept him. He can dance his ass off.

    • Brick

I was happy last week and sad this week

    • greta

Yes, it would have been so easy last week – the Woo man and Jordan!

      • UNHUN

I SECOND THAT! WOO MAN’S GOT TO GO.

      • Delon

        I know!

  • SR

Not happy that Nick went home. I thought for sure Iveta would be saved since she was the only Bottom 3 girl who wasn’t a contemporary/jazz dancer.

    • SMH

I didn’t realize how attached I was to Nick…I’m really upset! This double elimination was a set up. Why is Nigel trying to screw up another show?

      • sutherngurl

I agree, I was pretty bummed to see Nick go, I wanted to see him more; I guess we’ll be seeing Iveta as a choreographer

      • justjack

Me too! Of all 6 dancers, Nick was the only one I cared about staying. Super bummed that he’s gone.

      • Idle

Of all twenty dancers Nick was my favorite.

      • Lola

I agree as well. I’m so gutted over Nick getting booted. I was so looking forward to seeing him do contemporary as well as some more awesome tapping.

      • Mellissa

Because Nigel doesn’t care about America’s Favorite Dancer, he cares about his. That’s why when his favorites Woo-bear and Jordan were in the bottom he didn’t send them home, but when our favorites are in the bottom, he cuts them.

      • Annie

I agree – he tells Nick he is going to be a star and then picks Ricky. And I’m sorry but if Ricky’s solo was somebody dancing for their life then they should have been d.o.a. Ditto on Iveta – I admit I didn’t like her at first, but the woman is a truly accomplished dancer. The good news is I think that Ryan and Ricki will end up in the bottom three again. Fingers crossed.

      • Ambee

Ricky was amazing but I was so attached to Nick. Tall, goofy, fun, talented tapper… and I will miss him so!

      • Strepsi

Agree – NICK was my favorite among all 20 dancers. Damn.

    • Sarah El

My thoughts exactly, though I had a feeling they’d save their pet project Ryan despite much stronger contempo girls. I liked all three guys in the bottom, but I’m super upset about Nick, especially since he’s the only tapper that I’ve ever really gotten enthusiastic about.

      • steph

exactly. Ryan is the big redemption story arc they’re going for this season. I didn’t think she was all that great last year either, so I don’t get the constant parading of her.

    • Mari

Me too! I’m really sad to see Nick go.

    • dgh

Completely agree. All I can figure out is that Nigel was punishing us for not voting for our favorites (e.g. Nick/Iveta) by sticking us with Ricky and Ryan.

    • TV_Pete

While I am not shocked Nick was in the bottom, he was our household’s favorite guy.

He brought something different and in group numbers he stood out compared to everyone else.

  • VCI

I was hoping Wadi would wow me and the judges, but solely based on Ricky’s performance he deserved to stay. but Ryan definitely DID NOT. I don’t know what the judges see in her but her dance for life was ok and based solely on the solos, Iveta’s kicked butt and she deserved to stay and i don’t even like her.

    • Alice

I agree with you. I don’t think Iveta is strong outside of ballroom, and she leaves me a bit cold but she was for more deserving.

  • Suzy Q

I understand the choices made, but I wish Nick and Iveta were saved. I think they would have added more variety and intrigue to future shows. I love a contemporary dancer as much as the next gal, but we have sooo many.

  • Lena

    Oh, eff you, Nigel.

Notice how none of the couples in the bottom last week were there this week. Maybe if the judges had grown a set last week, we wouldn’t have had this fiasco tonight. Seriously, y’all – we just lost 4 top 10 dancers, and kept Ryan?! Okay, jury was still out on Wadi, but he was my eye-candy this season, d*mmit.

    • Katja

Wadi WAS pretty gorgeous. And Nick was actually my other eye candy (I have a thing for the tall skinny guys). I guess now I’ll have to ogle Tadd?

    • jacksquat

But none of the guys or girls last week deserved to go either. The solos last week were WAY better than all three guys solos this week. I wish they could have kept Nick and Wadi and sent the three girls home.

      • Lena

Mileage varies, and all that, but I totally disagree. I thought everyone but Ryan brought it tonight with their solos. Last week, Jess was the only one that really impressed me. Well, Mitchell’s solo was nice, but he was clearly still injured.

      • Jasmine

I thought Robert’s solo last week was horrible. I understand why they didn’t want to kick him off without Mitchell dancing, but that solo was so bad. Any of the girls last week could’ve gone even though they are all great dancers.

      • Sal

WHAT?! Jordan’s and Clarice’s solos were almost the same, and nothing near Iveta’s or Missy’s.

    • Lynne C

Yep, Wadi was VERY nice to look at.

  • liznin

I am super pissed off and its a bunch of BS!!! Ricky’s solo wasn’t choreography. It was a one move after another. Nick should have stayed. Wadi did deserve it as did missy. But freaking Ryan over ivetta! Are you kidding me!!!

    • sutherngurl

…how is a combination of moves not considered choreography?

      • liznin

Good choreography should have a meaning, emotion, some moves besides showing off everything you can do. And I don’t want to see yet another contemporary dance. I want to see someone grow and nick would have been lovely to watch that happen to.

    • Yeah ricky, Boo Ryan

I totally disagree. Ricky is an amazing dancer. Watch his two dances so far, he works it. His moves have impressed me week after week. Ryan is bring him down and I would have liked to see her go and him to be with Iveta.

  • Lisa

As soon as Ryan was announced as bottom 3 I knew she would be saved. She really has not impressed me much this year. Of the group IMO Iveta should have stayed.

    • Julz

Ryan hasn’t impressed anyone except the blind judges who want to be “right”.

      • Lessa

Wow! I am shocked at how many people don’t like Ryan. She’s an excellent dancer. The only thing that rubs me the wrong way is her perpetual smile. Not always appropriate. Iveta on the other hand, is amazing at her ballroom thing but does not transition well to other styles.

      • Mia

Ryan is Mia Michaels’ assistant so of course they are going to keep her around…I was hoping they would eliminate her before she made it on the show.

      • aj

I agree that Iveta doesn’t transition well. I also think that while she may be technically good with ballroom, she comes across as cold to me.

      • Gabe

Why is everyone saying that Iveta isn’t very good outside of her element? We never really saw her outside of her element except for the Bollywood number, and ever since the amazingness that is Katee and Joshua no one has been able to do anything in those…. I wanted to see her do Contemporary, Broadway, or Jazz to see how well she really can transition.

  • chauncey

Missy was HOSED!!!!!! Can’t beleive Ryan was a fav of mine during auditions but now that she made top 20 her “manical” smiling as many have pointed out has made me do a complete 180 and I can’t stand to watch her dance.

  • 3 left feet

Are you Alex Freakin’ Wong kidding me?!? Nick and Iveta? Noooo! I voted for them so yeah, I will complain, dag nab it!

    • me

“Are you Alex Freakin’ Wong kidding me?!? ” i like that!

    • Anne

Totally agree! I am SOOOO pi$$ed right now that they eliminated Nick and Iveta instead of Ryan and Ricky. Nick, especially, was the most charismatic male dancer on the show, and Iveta was miles better than Ryan – what were they thinking?!?! SO upset!!

  • tkra

Sad to see Nick go. He was a joy to watch tap dance.

  • Carrie

Ryan’s weird smiling is so distracting I find it hard to watch her dances. Someone (hey, judges!) needs to really hammer home the fact that the smiling is ruining her dances. But Mia Michaels on the judging panel- she’ll straighten it right out! Having celebrities as guest judges doesn’t really add anything- they’re not going to be at all critical because they don’t want to lose fans, so they’re useless.

    • BJohnson

Thank you!! She does not look good at all. Yes, I love Debbie, but let’s get Mia or Adam back to cut that girl down. Her goofball grin was not sexy this week. Don’t like her.

    • Lena

But Ryan is one of Mia’s proteges, donchaknow. Probably one of the reasons her Stepford azz is still on the show.

      • Carrie

Oh- the nepotism on this show is strong! Then they need to bring on Len Goodman to tell Ryan to cut it out. Where is the judge who isn’t afraid to tell the truth? Someone needs to point out the bad that is happening on that stage!

      • Mellissa

Len Goodman would knock some sense into Nigel in a heartbeat. BRUNO would knock sense into Nigel in a heartbeat, and Bruno likes sex more than Nigel.

    • Sandy

I agree 100%. I find myself avoiding looking at her head because the stupid smile throws me off so much. The judges called her out on it a little last week, they should’ve chastised her this week as well.

      • E

Agree completly! Ryan smile is annoying! They should have kept Ivetta! No sense in keeping only contemporary dancers!

    • Marie

Kids, have we forgotten something? Ryan was Mia’s assistant–THAT’S the ONLY thing that saved her

  • Molly

Missy deserved to stay over Ryan, Iveta, Clarice, Ashley AND Miranda. The only reason she was kicked off is b/c she got stuck with Wadi on that routine in a week where four were leaving and one of the girls was Ryan. There was no chance Ryan was going home, Nigel doesn’t admit he’s wrong once he’s put the money into “pimping” someone. And honestly, Iveta danced better tonight than either girl, although I knew they’d send her home the first chance they got. The public doesn’t really like Ryan, I wonder how long he’ll be able to keep her around if she’s continually in the bottom three.

    • Molly

Oh and I’m sure it was soooooooo unanimous. We all know Debbie didn’t get a vote and if Mary does actually get one against Nigel does she really have the push to go against him. This is why Adam needs to come back NOW.

      • CJ

Yeah, find it hard to believe that “the decision was unanimous”. I’m shocked that Mary didn’t try to save Iveta.

  • 3 left feet

Oh, and I’m pizzed! PIMB must be raging at the TV now.
