Why should Cat Deeley get an Emmy nomination? Just look at last night's 'SYTYCD'!

I’ve made the argument so many times, I’m almost bored with it. But, really, I still can’t help myself: I need to push for So You Think You Can Dance host Cat Deeley to finally, finally score an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Reality Show Host.

Three whole years the category has existed without her getting a nod. Even Project Runway‘s Heidi Klum, a star who does no more than read off of cue cards while making adorable idiom errors, has been recognized every year. But not Cat, a host who has not only shared germs with contestants for our entertainment (remember Twitch’s grillz?) but can also keep up a live show with the best of ‘em. Need more convincing, Emmy? Just look at last night’s results show, during which Nigel Lythgoe forced Cat to dance around his killing-time antics, after which he announced that no one dancer would be leaving So You Think You Can Dance. The host turned on the charisma, cracked a few jokes, and managed to not turn the moment into a complete, awkward disaster. (It was more of an charming, awkward mess than anything else.)

Need more? She lights up every dreaded audition episode of the show, interacting with some of the least sane folks to ever grace the SYTYCD stage and making them entertaining. (Paging Sex!) More? She falls in love with each SYTYCD “baby” to appear on the show, and even hosts a fourth of July barbecue for them every year. More? She stands up for the dancers when necessary, but also respects the judges’ criticism. More?! She’s as gorgeous as Klum, funnier than Tom Bergeron, more professional than Ryan Seacrest, and wears necklaces more fashionable than Jeff Probst’s. That enough?!

MORE?! Well, just look at pretty she is!

I totally agree. I think Cat is the best host on tv.
Sure, Seacrest is good at hosting, but Cat makes it so much more. She’s effusive and enthusiastic and has a fantastic sense of humor. She is never patronizing (looking at you, Ryan) and seems to so genuinely care for all of the contestants. You can really tell that she gets to know them and spends time with them. LOVE HER.

100% agree. She is half the reason I actually love watching this show. She is more than overdue for not just her Emmy nod, but her Emmy win.

    • Carol

      She’s got my vote

Yeah, I don’t get how they don’t nominate her. She’s the definition of how to host a reality show. She’s absolutely perfect.

I thoroughly agree. She should be nominated and win. She was great in the UK and has made the transition across the Atlantic successfully.

Make the argument as long as it takes for the Emmys to see sense!
Cat is fantastic. She does ad-lib with the best of them (and you can tell they’re REAL ad-libs, not rehearsed ahead of time), is gorgeous, never less than charming, and genuinely cares for the dancers and their own emotional rollercoasters throughout each season.

She not only deserves a nomination, she deserves to WIN!

Remember when one of the dancers came out of her shoe and Cat got down on her knees, in her short short dress mind you, to fix it? I don’t think any other host out there would do that.

She was great last night! Hopefully she will finally be recognized.

Could not agree more! She’s genuine, mature, beautiful, not plastic, charming, professional, humble…the list goes on. (Plus I always look forward to seeing what she’s going to wear.)

I agree. She is easily the most likable reality host because, even when she’s dealing with someone who is clearly crazy, or sad, or heinous, she never veers into cruel territory. And that’s important. I hate it when the joke’s on the contestant on tv, and so many hosts put people down or laugh at them. I’ve never seen her do it. I respect that.

  • Carol

I agree. She is warm yet professional

  • Hawley

I have to disagree with her being funnier than Tom Bergeron, but Cat definitely deserves an Emmy nod!

    • Kat

I’m with you. No one is funnier than Bergeron, but Cat is just as charming as he is and as great a host in her own way.

    • D

Finally! Some sense in here. Bergeron is A+ with the ad libs. Sure she deserves a nomination but let’s not get carried away here!

    • aps

I agree. not funnier than Tom Bergeron. However, she certainly deserves a nod, especially over someone like Klum ( I barely consider her a host. and I don’t hate her. I enjoy her on the show). Probst and Seacrest are simply fine. I believe Bergeron and Deeley are better. and I don’t even watch much SYTYCD.

I love Cat (I have such a girl crush on her), but I love me some Bergeron too. Can they share the Emmy?

    • Eurydice

Yep, Tom Bergeron is an absolute god, but Cat’s well on her way. She’s got that same way of looking cheerfully sane in the middle of total crazy. It’s about time for her to be nominated.

    • jmm

      Agreed Tom’s an A+ Cat’s an A :)

  • Lola

You’re preachin’ to the choir my friend. Ms. Deeley’s Emmy (let alone Emmy nomination) is long overdue. Like everyone else has said, she’s warm and funny and an amazing live host. I remember once she actually turned away from the cameras during a live results show to comfort the eliminated dancer. And she’s ridiculously gorgeous to boot!

  • Ben

Cat is the best; she’s genuine, witty, beautiful, and totally likable.
