Stephen Colbert vs. BFF Jimmy Fallon in the battle for Emmy: It. Is. On.

It’s been three long years since the hilarious late night battle royale between Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and Conan O’Brien, (Coco had another decidedly less funny war he had to conquer since then) but that doesn’t mean there isn’t another round of TV-host terrorizing on the verge of erupting.

It seems Jimmy Fallon will be next to square off against the two Comedy Central comics, at least if he continues to irk Emmy’s reigning king Stewart and his current (well, at least until September 3) BFF Colbert. The Colbert Report host more or less declared war, accusing Fallon of continuing to ride his coattails.

In the countdown to Emmy (just 108 days to go!) Colbert pointed out that it is he who most desires the “electroplated hand of a goddess siren of prime-time achievement,” and that Fallon has some nerve by running against him. Even worse, in the for-your-consideration package for Emmy voters, Fallon used a picture of the now-classic episode in which he and Colbert sang Rebecca Black’s “Friday” together. A hurt, bewildered Stephen could only cry, “Jimmy, how could you?!”

We can’t wait to see what Colbert’s first real strike against Fallon will be (besides, hopefully, more Taxi zingers) and if Stewart will join him in his plight. All we can say is, bring it on.

I hope the Emmy goes to Jimmy Fallon!

    • SaraS

      Agreed.

      • Tom

Jimmy FTW. If they give it to the other douchbag, it’s totally rigged.

    • Simon

Thirded! Jimmy’s show is consistently hilarious and just plain fun. Plus he has the best sketches on TV — Real Housewives of Late Night, 6Bee, Slow Jam the News, Thank You Notes, Jersey Floor and so much more!

      • Mike

it would be a shame to give him an Emmy
he needs to get better with his interviews to deserve such rewards

      • Kato

fallon did the funniest thing all year. He got Springsteen to be 70s springsteen and got him to sing WHIP MY HAIR. for that alone. he deserves the emmy

      • Rafael

@Kato, that segment with (70′s) Springsteen was AWESOME! Also loved when Jimmy brought Stephen Colbert on to do “Friday,” and when he did his “Neil Young” impression with David Crosby and Graham Nash on “Party in the USA.” So many classic moments this year…

Fallon is nothing more than a Pinko Lovin’, Liberal Huggin’, Bear kissin’ Grease emulatin’ 2nd rate Chevy Chase! Long Live Colbert!

      • Staci

Love it! Colbert is the TRUE American who deserves this award more than Fallon, who may be funny, but not nearly up to Colbert’s level of sharp political zingers!

Booo. I have found Fallon to be more conservative than Colbert and Stewart, often criticizing the president. It is the one thing that bugs me about him.

    • AM

I love them both and Jon Stewart! This battle is sure to bring even more laughs. Let the games begin…

  • amie

    Stephen all the way!

    • topoopon

I love Stewart, but what Stephen does is brilliant. He’s a whole other guy for 30 minutes (sometimes 3-4 people, see: Estaban Colberto, Tek Jansen, Formidible Opponent, etc.) Look who SHOULD BE honoring Stephen now!!

  • jl

It would funny if Jimmy Fallon was funny

    • Jackie

It would be good if you could put a sentence together.

      • T

        This.

    • Skye Hill

Don’t have any English books in your trailer park?

  • Can’t Wait

I love to see these titans of Late Night get along and also be in on the joke all of the time. Add in a nice dose of Craig Ferguson to the mix, and you couldn’t ask for a better (or tougher) category to pick the winner. I would cast a vote for Fallon because between his crack team and his on stage crack ups, he puts a smile on my face!

I absolutely love Craig Ferguson. I love Jimmy Fallon too, but I usually end up just watching Craig. Colbert and Stewart are obviously great too. Tough call.

  • Dana

    team Jimmy

    • Ted

Agreed. Team Jimmy for the Emmy!

  • LOL

    It’s a win-win-win for all of us.

  • Cat

It’s tough. Stephen is hysterical, but I absolutely adore Jimmy Fallon! I hope the Emmy goes to Jimmy.

  • chattypatra

Jimmy deserves to win and – after watching that video – I really want him to so he can rub it in Colbert’s face.

  • Colleen

    Colbert!!!

  • Fred

I love all three of them, but I think Stephen Colbert should finally get some recognition. He’ll have been doing his show for six years come Emmy night and he’s only won the occasional writing Emmy. Stewart has won for his show, like, eight times; let Colbert win once. Sure, Fallon is great, but he’s been on for a little over two years. He can win his slew of Emmys after he’s been on for a little bit longer. It’s Colbert’s time to shine.

  • Sean

Love both these guys, but Jimmy should win this year — if only for his hilariously spot-on imitations of Neil Young, Donald Trump, Charlie Sheen, Arnold Schwartzenegger and many more. Plus the Roots should win for best musical performance on a talk show/comedy (if that Emmy award exists). Team Jimmy!

  • myrna minkoff

Jimmy is funny and cute. But Stephen Colbert is a fox and a comedic genius and so classy. He deserves to be recognized!

  • James

    I can’t watch Jimmy Fallon. He’s terrible.

  • Liz

    Stewart!!

  • John

    Ferguson deserves an Emmy.
He has the best monologue and best interviews.

    • mari

      Yes.
