We were all reeling last week when the great people at Castle decided to end the season on a whopper of a cliffhanger. [SPOILER ALERT...how long do we have to use those again?] Beckett was unexpectedly shot at Montgomery’s funeral! And while she lay on the ground, losing the fight to keep her eyes open as Castle encouraged her to do so, Castle whispered, “I love you.” Fade to freaking black.

There is nothing “wimpy” about Castle’s character. That character is the kind of guy full of quiet strength who’s there for those he loves, backs down from nothing, but also has enough sense to not try to control others. He’s pretty much the ultimate guy. Any guy who’s willing to walk into fire over and over for those he cares about the way that character does is no “wimp”…. not by a long shot.

We’d be less mean if he were on, say, Mad Men… or Parks and Rec… or even Burn Notice.

Just like beauty, chemistry (or at least TV chemistry) is in the eye of the beholder. That’s why not everyone ships the same couples. Many people adore Lucas and Peyton on One Tree Hill, I personally never saw a spark there. Let the guy have an opinion.

I’m a huge fan of Firefly, but you know what? I’d rather watch Castle for a few more seasons than having Nathan back as Captain in Firefly.
“Castle” is too good of a show. Stana and Nathan have amazing chemistry and both deserve Emmy awards for their performances.
Let Firefly slide by people, its not like they’ll come up with season 2 after all these years with the same cast!!
That was pretty funny! The next scene should show Lanie, Esposito, and Ryan betting on when/how they’ll get Castle to propose…. lol
They can’t kill Kate otherwise there is no show but if they pick up the next season at the cliff hanger it should be Kate in the hospital or going to the hospital. If not a couple months later and Kate is having nightmares about the shooting or make it soapy with she doesn’t remember what happened after getting shot. Since they focused alot on Kate this season, I would love to find out more about Castle and his family, I would love the writers to bring in the possibility of maybe a brother or sister for Castle.
Eh, they could kill her – only because Castle said the big “I love you,” but that would just be mean, and I seriously doubt they would do that. I think it’s more likely that she wouldn’t remember what he said, because of the blood loss after getting shot.

I was really surprised by how quickly things unfolded in the last two episodes. I didn’t think that Montgomery was bad at all, but it did work for the plot line. Also, I’m just glad that something happened between Castle and Becket. I hope they don’t just glide over it next season. I want them to really start dating.
Somehow I doubt they’ll start off dating – we have to wait and see how much Beckett even remembers of what she happened after she got shot.
As for Montgomery – I’d pretty much figured out that he was involved somehow, but that he wasn’t the guy at the top pulling the strings. And I had him pegged as the person who was going to die in the finale – especially after he’d announced that he was going to retire soon… that sealed the deal for me. But I did love the fact that he went down trying to protect Beckett.
I figure Kate was wearing kevlar under the uni and just had the wind knocked out of her, but enough to not remember Castle declaring himself.

There was an interview with the showrunner of Castle and he said that she was really shot.
Ix-nay. Aside from the fact she’s clearly bleeding, and just as clearly not wearing kevlar (seriously, it’s bulky), Andrew Marlowe confirmed that she was shot (and seemed a bit incredulous people would think otherwise).
Yeah, I think his quote was something to the effect of “why would she be wearing a vest? she was going to a funeral.”

I agree with you AG, she is faking it. Either she is wearing kevlar (except I am 99% sure I saw blood on her glove) and the guy after her really did have someone shoot her OR it was a setup. She got someone to shoot at her and she has a vest with a squib on. She had herself shot to either fake her down death and lul whoever is after her into a false sense of security and/or she wants to the ability to go off the grid and search for her mother’s killer and whoever is behind it all. One of the writers or producers mentioned after the finale aired that Beckett’s trust died with Capt. Montgomery and next season she will be less trusting of people so I can see it being feesible that if she fakes her own death it’s to go off the grid and find her mother’s killer on her own.
Which of course will cause tension between her and Castle next season b/c it can’t be that easy for the two them. lol
Andrew Marlowe has already confirmed that the shooting in fact is real, NOT fake. Several articles have reported that fact as well.
Judging from the riddle that Ausiello gave on his tvline site, I personally think Josh (the boyfriend) will find a way to save Kate at the last minute. Then next season, Castle will have that envelope Montgomery sent, but won’t show to Kate for fear of her life. Beckett will find out Castle’s hiding something. Thus, Beckett will be on a journey of finding out how to trust people again after both Montgomery’s betrayal and Castle’s lying, and Castle will still be trying to break down Kate’s walls and start a relationship with her…
JC, good thoughts! I never thought about her faking her death to go under the wire to finally find her mom’s killer, smart of you, I think you are smarter than the writers, I don’t think they have even thought of this…! I could NOT believe they would not have protective vests on, foolish. And if Castle and she get together it will end the show, it won’t be the fun cat and mouse game as it has been. Relationships never turn out well, it would ruin the fun. The LAST episode of this series, whenever, should have them getting married, only then.

Naw, the episode before the season 3 finale ended with Booth getting shot for real. In the next episode everyone thinks he’s dead, but it’s revealed that the FBI took advantage of the shooting to get some completely irrelevant bad guy. It was not a central storyline.
It’s witness protection/fake death to protect her from the rest of the cabal methinks.
I think that it is the plot of his graphic novel and not true at all.
TV writers can ALWAYS write themselves “out of a jam” per se. So the possibilities are endless…no matter how far-fetched the follow-up episode(s) may be. However, Jake I can’t envision why Beckett would be wearing Kevlar to a Funeral…(just a comment, no disrespect intended)
I knew she wasn’t wearing kevlar because if you watch the end scene and if you look at beckett’s right hand when castle grabs it, you can see blood on the glove.
well that and the emphatic denial by the show runner who said in a interview after the airing that Beckett was NOT wearing a vest.
Amazing, awesome, incredibe finale!!! I can’t believe we have to wait to find out what happens until September, although I think that very cute comic may be onto something! I have no clue how they are going to start the next season. Clearly, she’s not dead, but I just hope she is not dead WITHOUT Dr. Motorcycle Boy in the picture. As long as there are no more significant others, I’m good with whatever they decide to do! I’m really looking forward to seeing how they take such serious events and combine them with the light hearted part of the show that is so much fun. The writers of this show are great, so I have no doubt that they’ll figure it out. I’ll be waiting very impatiently…
They r doing like Bones fake her death so the bad guy will show up at her funeral and she will kill him.
Dumb finale. At first I wanted Kate and Castle together but she’s too immature. Kill her, get him a real woman partner and move on.
Josh is there and hears Castle’s confession. He saves Beckett and surrenders her to Castle in the name of true love (after they fight over Kate a little so we get to see some of that edgy side of Castle).
I like the fake her death scenario–she heard the ILY but won’t let on, and she and Castle spend some episodes at the beginning of the season incognito getting to the bottom of the huge conspiracy.
