'American Idol' Top 3: What should they sing to nab a spot in the finals?

Idol-Final-Three

This is it. Tonight, our Top 3 must battle it out to become the Top 2, but their biggest foe is hardly one another. No, tonight is the night that our Idols will be drenched in blood, sweat, and tears tackling the most formidable enemy ever known to American Idol: The Producers’ Pick. Click here for appropriate sound effect. Will Haley Reinhart be slapped with a song from Rio, just as Syesha Mercado was forced to sing a Happy Feet number? Which contestant will be tasked with “Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me” or “I Don’t Want To Miss a Thing”? (Idol… must… not… embrace… change… arghhh!) Tune in tonight to see!

Tonight, however, is also the night our final three singers will be given a chance to cement their spot in the finals with a personal song choice. And, this time around, they won’t be limited to singing tunes from the likes of 60-year-old musicians who play badminton with Nigel Lythgoe. No, the Top 3 can choose any song they want (that Idol is willing to pay for). So what song should each sing? What tune will guarantee them a space in the finals? (Their choices may have already been leaked, but this is a non-spoiler zone, folks!) My picks are below:

Scotty McCreery: I’ve been waiting for it all season. And, boy, would I be on a high to hear the country fella’s version of Garth Brooks’ “I Got Friends in Low Places.” The song’s perfect for the lowest of his low tones and for the goofiest of his goofball stage antics. Be a friend and save “Your Man” for the finale, Scotty.

Lauren Alaina: After failing to convince us that she’s “evil” last week, Lauren has to stick with a sweet country tune that shows her off as the good ol’ girl she is. Who isn’t a sucker for the Dixie Chicks’ “Cowboy Take Me Away“?

Haley Reinhart: As season 10′s dark horse with, let’s face it, nary a chance of nabbing a spot in the finals over the pimped Scotty and Lauren, Haley’s got to make an impression on audiences. So, I might be crazy, but I’m rooting for criminally under-praised Haley to deliver a singing f— you telegram to the judges by performing Meredith Brooks’ “I’m a Bitch.” And that song suggestion is meant as a compliment.

Your turn, PopWatchers. What should the Top 3 sing?

It was already leaked what Haley’s songs are Producers pick Rhianna, her pick is a zepplin song

    • Haley 4 the win!!

Led Zepplin contacted her after she sang House of the Rising Sun and asked her to do their song. I’m so excited!

      • win

I hope she wins. I love her voice and I can’t wait to buy her cds.

      • @Haley 4 the win

LMAO! You believe that? I have some property on the Mississippi Delta you may be interested in…?

      • T2

“Led Zepplin contacted her”…wait, WHAT?! They’re still alive?

    • ktct

Um, it’s, “Rhiannon” (sp?) by Fleetwood Mac, not Rhianna. Go Haley!

      • kat

Makes much more sense….I think she’ll be great at Rhiannon.

  • Q

I wouldn’t say that Haley has nary a chance of nabbing a spot in the finals. I think it is possible for her to overcome Lauren Alaina this week, mainly for two reasons. One: it’s possible that the country vote may split between Scotty and Lauren, allowing Haley to edge out Lauren. Two: fans of James Durbin may be more likely to throw their votes towards Haley rather than the country twosome.

    • kat

I agree. I think Lauren and Scotty have similar voting blocks, and Scotty would win between the two of them hands down. I think Haley has just as good of a shot as Lauren of making it to the finals.

I don’t know why ppl get so mad when the judges finally make a comment that isn’t positive. They’ve all been why too kind this season, and when Randy does make a negative comment, the crowd drowns him out. Why even have judges if they can’t say what they think? As for Haley, she does have a great voice but she’s inconsistant and she resorts to growling too often. She should’ve had more critiszm so as to grow as a performer. It’s immature to argue when an opinion is expressed.

      • Kata

Why? Because they only seemed to target one Idol or two. Very little criticism thrown their favorite’s way. It’s all about taste and many like Haley’s way of singing/growling whatever. Others liked James and his singing/screaming. Same thing different likes.

      • @Kata

Maybe that’s because the judges only criticize people who need criticism(aka Haley).

      • ha

Lauren needs criticism. She is very boring. No individuality at all from Lauren.

  • JC

Zeppelin? That would be awesome. Rihanna, on the other hand, sucks. If the judges’ insane criticisms of her aren’t enough, making her sing Rihanna constitutes proof positive the Idol folks hate Haley and are attempting to sabotage her.

    • kat

See above….apparently it’s Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac. MUCH better choice for Haley. Jimmy is on Haley’s side, so this was a good choice on his part.

  • Dave

Let me guess, Randy and JLo will criticize Haley for song choice for the song that she doesn’t even pick herself.

    • Kata

      That is classic.

  • Lo

Jimmy picked “Rhiannon” by Fleetwood Mac, not a Rihanna song thank goodness. Haley’s also singing “You Oughta Know” by Alanis and “What Is and What Never Should Be” by Led Zepplin

  • GD

She’s not singing Rihanna, she’s singing Rhiannon by Fleetwood Mac

  • ia

I heard on another website that the judges get to choose a song for the Final 3 and that they chose “You Oughta’ Know” by ALANIS MORRISETTE for HALEY. I hope that this isn’t true because HALEY deserves a better song than that one. As for the producers’ pick for HALEY…e-gods! not a RHIANNA song, pleeeeeeze. And as for HALEY’s pick, a ZEPPLIN tune would suit her fine. I will be casting hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of votes for HALEY tonight. She needs to be in the Top 2!!! Go, HALEY, go!!!

    • Brigette

UGH! I read that too on People.com. Honestly, “You Oughta Know” is not a singer’s song. It’s a shouter’s song. So annoying that they picked that for her.

    • AlyssaG

It’s such a frustrating pick from the judges. They spend last week telling her she shouted through a song and then give her a song that’s essentially one big shout!

  • Ron

    my bad, typoed the song..

  • ia

Thank God, HALEY is singing “Rhianna” by the great STEVIE NICKS. She should “nail” this song. Thanks, JIMMY IOVINE for choosing “Rhianna.” Go, HALEY, go. You are on your way to the AI finals!!!

  • Lannie

    GO TEAM SCOTTY

  • ia

Ooops…sorry FLEETWOOD MAC, I mean “Rhiannon.”

  • dipshat

    Haley:At Last; Etta James
    Lauren:Love Story; Taylor Swift
    Scotty:I Don’t know…Hot in Herre; Nelly?

    • Squishmar

1.) I think Haley’s wanted to sing “At Last” twice now… at least, that’s what some people have guessed over at the behind-the-scenes coaches’ blog.
2.) I really don’t think Lauren has the breath control for that song.
      3.) PERFECT for Scotty! LOL

  • dan

i dont think i can remember anyone in the top ten that is ruder than haley. her blasting back at the judges and her terrible attitude, and all that before she has even made it. she is a diva before her time and gives me the impression of a “cheap piece of goods”. she sounds the same every week, i think this week should have been james, scotty and lauren. cant wait to see haley voted off

    • pl

Oh god, please get a life. I’m sorry that you cant appreciate a confident woman.

    • Dave

Of all of them, you think Haley is the one who sounds the same every week? Have you been paying attention to Scotty’s performances?

    • a f

Blasted back? She barely uttered a word until Randy ripped her on live national t.v. and excluded everyone else from criticism. Haley, not Scotty, is the one who sounds the same every week? Is the volume on your set turned to the on position?

    • A

She’s rude? Why? Because she said “I heard you” to Randy after he repated the same criticism for the 10th time?

      • Katie

Yep! That’s definitely rude in my book.

    • mom

Haley had a right to be mad. She is a really great singer and they treat her like dirt when she doesn’t deserve it. Lauren pouts like a little kid when she doesn’t like what they say. Haley deserves praise, Lauren doesn’t.

    • Cat

And yet you have no problem referring to someone you don’t know as a ” cheap piece of goods?”

    • vin

Let me guess, you were voting for somebody who has been voted off and are bitter. She may7 not win this thing but she is putting her all into it and has an amzing voice and rocks some songs. Yes, song selction tends to be a problem for her BUT at least she isn’t one of those annoying contestamnts like Casey and James who as talented as they are (or at least in james’ case) over compensate with their perfomances (pirotechnics and whatnot….the marching band was another overkill thing) and try to mask their flaws.

    • really?

@ Dan: Bitter much? Seriously dude chill out and breath. Its a TV show and I’m pretty sure ur not competing against ger so chill out.

  • hunter

i hope lauren will be in the top 2 do not care which one haley or scotty will be

  • dan

when i think of a strong confident woman i think of pia. i am a strong supporter of all women, i just dont think haley has what it takes.

    • mom

Haley has it Lauren doesn’t, she acts like a baby.

      • Eve

Seriously! If Lauren had been criticized like Haley should would have run off the stage weeping like a little baby. She acts like a whiny spoiled child when she gets anything but praise. Her voice is good but her personality grates on me. I wish she had waited until she was older to audition.

      • Emily

        Lauren has it. Haley doesn’t.

    • Squishmar

So ‘vin’ nailed it: He saw from your first comment that you were a still-bitter Pia fan. Is Haley responsible for everything?
