Chelsea Handler talks 50 Cent, love, kids, and politics with Piers Morgan: Watch!

Yes, Chelsea Handler dated 50 Cent “very casually,” the funny lady confirmed in an interview with Piers Morgan that aired Tuesday night. “I was just sampling… the atmosphere and seeing what was out there,” she said. Handler said the rapper is the complete antithesis of what you would imagine. “I mean he’s a sweetheart. He’s sweet and funny. He’s got a great sense of humor.” She confirmed he did send her gifts to try to woo her and explained why she sent them back: “I don’t really like gifts from rappers in general, since I’m not a hooker,” she joked. “I don’t like when men buy me ridiculous gifts, especially when I don’t know them well. I can buy my own gifts.”

Handler continued the frank talk about her personal life, saying that she didn’t want to have children. When Morgan suggested she might be wrestling with that great modern dilemma for successful women — in Morgan’s words, the belief that a child will suck the energy out of where you want it, your work, Handler said that’s not really her mindset: “I just don’t want a baby.”

It’s funny how shocking those words still can sound coming from a woman, isn’t it? Like it’s impossible for anyone to imagine that a single woman, especially one in her mid-to-late 30s, could point out an adorable toddler and not feel her own biological clock ticking. As Handler says, she has plenty of children in her life from her friends and family — she just has no desire to have a child of her own. She’d be too focused on it, and other things in her life would fall short. That doesn’t just have to mean work. Handler utilized her humor in the discussion — having a little Chelsea would be awful, she said, “I wouldn’t do that to a man. I wouldn’t do that to the country” — but it was still serious. And seeing that side of her was refreshing.

Watch clips from the interview below. She also talks honestly about why dating a coworker (like her former boss and boyfriend, Ted Harbert) isn’t wrong, why she’s never been married, how her older brother’s mountain climbing death when she was 10 affected her, why she has patience for Barack Obama, and how she feels about Sarah Palin. “That’s not a serious person. I can’t hate her … I hope to God that Sarah Palin doesn’t ever come close to becoming  president of any country that I’ve stepped in.”

I’ve really tried to get into her show but I just don’t get it’s or her success. The pretaped bits and her Banter with Chuy are just painful. And based on her opening monologue, her stand-up act can’t be much better. The roundtable with the other comedians has it’s moments but not enough to make me skip The Daily Show to watch her.

The need for a child at some point is stronger then anything. Being a mother changes you immediately. It’s hard to explain because it’s so deep. But it’s the most beautiful feeling I have ever had.

    • Bennett

you can’t apply your own experience to everyone. Not every woman wants a child.

    • AC

Is that all you got from this article? It’s not all about you.

    • whatevs

Elsa, some people out there don’t have kids to fill a void, but thanks for your input.

  • Rovena

I’m sure she will be a great mother! I’m a new mother myself and I highly recommend having children. My hips are bigger…my breasts are bigger. I’m loving it! I feel like more of a woman now. It definitely makes me feel so much sexier than ever before.

      Damn Straight!!!

    • AC

I’m sorry. I didn’t realize that this article was about you and being a baby maker.

    • OhGeez

      TMI.

  • Sara

Why is it so hard for people to understand that not everyone wants or needs to have children. Sure they’re great for many, but not all

    • Judy

I’m with you, and everyone else who has commented that it shouldn’t be a shocker that not everyone wants children. I want to have them, in fact I already have one, but what difference does it make if someone else doesn’t want one? Big deal. It’s great that Chelsea knows how she feels about it, in my opinion.

The issue is that she’s a woman, which kind of pisses me off. If a 30-something-year-old guy said that he didn’t want to have kids, no one would bat an eye – next question. But women are “supposed” to want babies – if they don’t, there’s something “wrong” with them, and it’s something we need to debate in order to understand. That’s BS.

Are people really shocked that someone doesn’t want to have a baby? I do, but I completely understand why people don’t, and much better that they make that decision than have a kid they don’t want.
Interesting that nobody questions people who do decide to have children…

I just had my baby. It was amazing and an incredible experience. I never thought I was very maternal but I’ve gone from being not being bothered about being a mum to being quite keen to have a second baby. For me, the baby idea came from meeting the right man. I mean, it was the surprise of a lifetime. And now he’s here and he’s giggling and smiling. It’s an incredible thing. It was a dream come true in many ways.

    • Jay

Good for you but what’s that got to do with Chelsea?

  • Shannon

I thought it was refreshing to see this more introspective side of Chelsea. She’s a lot deeper & cerebral than I thought. Kinda like Kathy Griffin. I was already a fan, but now I like her even more.

    • Kaye

I guess that wasn’t a surprise having read her books. They are hilarious, and maybe staged around the trivial… but no one can write comedy that well without having a good bit of intelligence.

  • Fang

Well, the baby comment certainly hit close to home for the writer of the article. Defensive much, Mandi?

    • sally

what are you talking about? Mandi doesn’t come across as defensive to me.

  • Serena

I think it’s the best thing in life. It really changed my life when I had my first kid. Now that I have three, I’m really, really happy and I would love to have more. It’s a really amazing experience.

  • Tellar Calcagno

I’m dying to have a baby. In fact, my biological clock is already ticking and I don’t know how to describe it. It’s just becoming a physical need now.
So far, unfortunately, I’ve been dealing with men with no backbone, who make promises they cannot keep. A lot of men can’t handle a strong woman. I won’t cry for all the hunger in my heart. I am a 34 year old divorced woman with a young daughter but I’m excited to see what the future brings.

  • will g alvira

I think Chelsea Handler is a very logical person. Specialy about having kids. The truth is most people do an unbelievable job raising kids.

  • AC

Believe it or not Mandi, not everyone wants to have children. I know! It’s so shocking.

    • Ang

Um, Mandi didn’t say she was shocked. She commented on how silly it is for people to be shocked when a woman says she doesn’t want children. Try re-reading.

  • sally

I read the comments of this article hoping to find people talking about Chelsea and her comedy but instead come across mothers telling everybody how awesome children are. Bummer.

    • Buffy Freak

Yeah I’m with you Sally…I posted the first comment and it related to her comedy and every one since was about having a baby…

      • tae

I feel the same way and I.have kids

  • Geronimo

How this woman can claim to only be in her mid 30s is beyond ridiculous. She has to be in her early to mid 40s.

That or the booze and drugs have just taken 10 years off her life…

  • MrNiceGuy

    Potty mouthed $kank attention h/o.
