Al Pacino has joined the John Gotti film starring John Travolta, and the Godfather actor will play Neil Dellacroce, the longtime consigliere to Mafia chieftain Carlo Gambino, Fiore Films announced, confirming a Variety report. “Dellacroce’s the person who kind of brings John Gotti up through the ranks,” says producer Marc Fiore. “We’re very excited [to have cast Pacino].”
Nabbing the Godfather of Godfather movies for Gotti: Three Generations is a huge boost for the project, which also features Kelly Preston, Lindsay Lohan, and reportedly, Joe Pesci. Dellacroce was a loyal and admired member of the Gambino crime family who was nevertheless passed over for top leadership. He refused to revolt, though, and it was only after his death in 1985 from lung cancer that Gotti felt free to make his move to take over the family.
Pacino has played several different types of mobsters over the years, but this one promises to be different. Michael Corleone was a cold-blooded “businessman” who never said what he was really thinking. Scarface‘s Tony Montana was a power-mad fiend who just wanted to burn everyone in his way. And Lefty Ruggiero from Donnie Brasco was a Willy Loman-esque trigger-man who wasn’t above smashing parking meters for loose change. Pacino’s Dellacroce might be more like Paul Sorvino’s Paul Cicero in Goodfellas, a beloved leader who doesn’t have to demand respect — because it’s automatically instilled in his crew.
How do you like your Pacino gangster?

New details on the ‘Gotti’ picture

Absolutely breathtaking. Oscars for all involved.
I hope they include some of the following gangster film genre actors in this movie:
Andy Garcia, Armand Assante, Chazz Palminteri, Christopher Walken, Harvey Keitel, Jack Nicholson, James Caan, Joe Mantegna, Michael Madsen, Paul Sorvino, Ray Liotta, Robert De Niro
Oscars for all except Lindsay.
don’t talk too fast, maybe she will have her oscar..never say never.

James Gandolfini should be tested to play Sammy The Bull.
I was a little skepticle at first it seemed as though it could turn out to be corney. I grew up in Howard Beach, five blocks away from the Gottis. I was always interested in the “life” and love gangster movies. Goodfellas and Donnie Brasco are among my favorites. I am officially excited about this movie. Pacino is iconic in these types of roles. I hope he gives it his all and doesn’t phone it in..
C’mon – when was the last time Al Pacino BOOSTED a project? He’s been a paycheck actor for years.
Didn’t he just win every possible award for a biopic about Jack Kevorkian? I believe he’s also starring on Broadway in ‘The Merchant of Venice’, and I’m sure he’ll be a pretty big draw there.
F*ck you, you’re not worthy of holding Pacino’s coffee.
Hopefully this will be more of a restrained role and less of a “Hoo-ahh!!” one.
in regards to the poll, it’s pretty cool he can play all three roles…Let’s hope the movie is well written,
Sounds interesting, but where did they get the picture. The last person I saw who looked like that asked me for a quarter.
Pacino is a quiet supporting role will work just fine..but..Im still skeptical…doesnt, Travolta, Preston and Lohan make any one else think this could be a disaster?..
@JC,

I used to comment about how for the time being I saw this as make-or-break a deal. If done right, TRAVOLTA and/or others for this matter might even get nom’d, especially for Oscars.
*
Ironically, I think LILO, again for the time being, might be the strongest one among the three – Travolta, Pesci and Lohan.
*
But seeing is believing.

Sorry for all the rambling. Yes, I’m skeptical, too.
We should expect one of the below young actresses to play Victoria Gotti:
Sophia Bush, Evan Rachel Wood, Kat Dennings, Emma Roberts, Miley Cyrus, Blake Lively, Rachel Bilson, Hilary Duff, Leighton Meester, Mischa Barton, Taylor Momsen, Jessica Szohr
Let’s hope Miley, Rachel Bilson, Hilary Duff, Mischa Barton, Taylor Momsen, and Jessica Szohr are not actually in the running.
This is gggoing to be the bbbest movie ever.
This is bad casting. Pacino is only what 5’7″ or 5’8″? Neil Dellacroce was a tall and imposing figure. This role should be played by someone like Paul Sorvino or another older actor at least 6′ tall. I realize that personal liberties are sometimes taken in the protrayal of real people, but Pacino as Dellacroce? Sorry not buying it.
That’s so lame. People do NOT have to have the exact physical requirements to play a character. Ex: John Cazale in Dog Day Afternoon. Nobody knows how freakin’ tall that guy was. Stupid. Pacino will be as awesome as always.
Grew up in Bensonhurst Brooklyn with a lot of these guys.Travolta can play Gotti ok .Pesci may still have it in him Pacino is great but I think a Paul Sorvino would be great in the part .The first Gotti movie with Armand Assante would be hard to be beat .That cast was fantastic.Don’t know why they need to do another Movie about John Gotti but with the crap Hollywood puts out why not .
