Expect a surge in the Top 4′s performance level next week: Fox has confirmed to EW that Lady Gaga is set to appear on American Idol as a mentor for our remaining finalists. And before you scoff at the idea of a 25-year-old handing out career advice, remember that Miley Cyrus served as a mentor on the show last year, at the ripe age of 17 years old. And it’s not like Gaga doesn’t have anything to offer — some of our contestants (ahem, Lauren!) still have plenty to learn when it comes to truly performing to a crowd. Who better to teach them than the dramatic artist herself? (If only Pia were still around to pick up a few pointers… )
But it’s interesting to consider how she might aid the contestants, considering next week’s theme. While Gaga would have seemed an appropriate mentor during “Now & Then” week — who wouldn’t want a currently charting artist doling out advice on current music? — the contestants will be singing Leiber & Stoller numbers next week. And for you youngsters out there, Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller were known for penning such Post-World War II hits as “Jailhouse Rock,” “Yakety Yak,” and “Hound Dog.” (A theme created for the Elvis-loving Scotty? Conspiracy theorists, discuss!) If nothing else, however, Gaga has proven to be an old soul capable of eschewing Auto-Tune for old-school performances utilizing just her voice and a piano (check out her acoustic version of “Poker Face,” for one), so perhaps the flexible Gaga’s a better choice than one would think.
If nothing else, at least she’ll be on Haley’s side, right? (Lord knows the girl needs an ally.)

Scotty: “That sounds familiar.”
Lady Gaga: “No it doesn’t—you’re retarded.”
I would continue with the other two contestants—but neither of them will win anyway.

She thinks she is going to be groundbreaking. She is trying to rip off Grace Jones, Madonna, Christina, Kylie & Britney to shore up her talentless, mundane, and boring performances.

Who and what did she “rip off”? If you think Madonna, then why hasn’t the material girl sued yet? Sampling has been done for years and years and all you have to do is leave out one note and it is considered NOT THE SAME. Unless we were in the studio when this was produced then we should lay off something we know nothing about.
She ripped off Madonna. The fact that Madonna hasn’t sued doesn’t change the fact that Gaga has patterned her career after Madonna’s and that her most recent song is basically “Express Yourself” with slightly different lyrics. Gaga DOES have a better voice than Madonna, but Madonna is more original.
She doesn’t sue because it would be bad form and she doesn’t have anything to gain by attacking someone who is currently at the top of the charts. Everyone knows that the song isn’t direct plagiarism, but it’s at the very least—an homage. And for Lady Gaga to insist that the two are entirely dissimilar is ridiculous. But in the long run, LG is doing nothing but hurting her own career and her longevity by making herself look like a copycat who has run out of original ideas. Neither BTW or “Judas” are even remotely close in quality to her earlier songs—the only reason why BTW topped the charts is because it’s a gay-friendly anthem. That doesn’t make it a good song. And “Judas” is dreadful.

What Gaga produces in the market is void of all talent !!!
She’s a freak that people in need of cheap, easy entertainment follow. Gaga is actually very talented but this crap in the market doesn’t hold a candle to REAL talent, hers or anyone elses. Her voice is digitized in every single song, the choreography in her videos is horrendous and she has to go overboard on her outfits to cover up the fact that she is so butt faced ugly.
Everything she has done is un0riginal and tired.

Lady Gaga doesn’t have a good figure anymore and is a bad example to women around the country. She was so voluptuous in 2008/2009 for a while when she first became famous but has lost so much weight and is too skinny now. Why did she do it? She was perfect before. Please put 10 pounds back on. She looks wasted. She should have a healthy model figure that boasts an ample cleavage, fuller legs and a fuller backside.
No one thinks she’s too skinny. She looks like a lot of people. If anything, she looks bad because she’s so pale.
You know, I have just been attributing her weight loss to the amount of dancing she does when she performs. Girl dances like a fiend!!!
I agree with AngieLam. She has been touring so much more than she did back when her career first started…bound to lose some weight. And she is by no means skeletal. She looks healthy to me, though she could stand to gain a few pounds.

I hope that Lady Gaga has a cameo in Star Trek 12 as a singer and her character could have dark connections to the Orion Syndicate (the mafia of the Star Trek universe) who should be the villains of the sequel. With her futuristic music and style, she would fit right in.
Midway through Star Trek 12, I’d like to see Kirk, Spock and McCoy go undercover to a concert of hers on a distant planet like with Diva Plavalaguna in The Fifth Element (1997). When she sings Bad Romance, Paparazzi, Poker Face or Just Dance, her show could be raided by Syndicate henchmen who have a thunderous phaser fight with Kirk, Spock and McCoy.

OK…am I the ONLY person completely over GaGa? I mean her new song (“Judas”) is lackluster and not doing well on iTunes or airplay charts at all and she’s everywhere. And that interview where she broke down crying whining about how hard it is to be “Lady GaGa” and calling herself “queen”? Please. She needs a reality check.

When did you get in a tragic accident that caused you to become hearing impaired? I mean you can hate on Lady Gaga, but in what way does “Judas” sound like “Alejandro?” It’s consistently been compared to “Bad Romance” and “Poker Face.”
Ummm no. Why don’t you actually listen to those songs. It is structured like Bad Romance, with a little mix of Poker Face.
I’m not “over” Gaga; I was never “into” her in the first place. Christopher Walken’s version of “Poker Face” shows more talent.
That reminds me… I need to go see that. I’ve been meaning to… I hear it’s great!
But maybe Gaga is doing all that crying because she’s so dedicated as an artist and doesn’t like to be called a ripoff of other artists and their songs. She’s very tough despite the criticism placed on her and she defends her music and craft and belonging.

I like Gaga, I really do. However, I must express myself to say that she is EVERYWHERE. Can she please take a vacation? She’s 2 singles into an CD that isn’t even out yet. Judas has indeed proved underwhelming. She needs to learn to stop putting everything but the kitchen sink in her songs.
Part of the problem is EW.com. I love this site, I really REALLY do, but, GaGa is 24/7 here. If she burps, it’s on the home page.
Beleve me, the editors would stop putting her in if people just ignored her, but everyime her name is written, people keep responding.
I’m not getting tired of Lady Gaga. I’m looking forward to her FULL LENGTH album in May. That Fame Monster EP album doesn’t count. She hasn’t had a full length of over a dozen songs since The Fame in 2008 and I’d rather hear a whole body of songs than some 8 or 9 songs or remixes. It took a while for people to get into her sound because Beyonce and Britney had albums out, but it shifted to Gaga as 2009 and 2010 went through and there’s so much big anticipation for 2011′s Born This Way.
Agreed. We need a break from her. She needs to marry a movie star make few bad movies and then release a video with religious imagery. Any graduate of Madonna University knows that’s the order of things.

I think Lady Gaga will be great. I remember last year when Miley mentored, everyone KILLED it, she seemed to have instilled them with so much confidence even though she was so young. Gaga’s a passionate person, so I hope she does the same. Not too crazy about the theme, though. Ugh, do I have to sit through Scotty singing Hound Dog?
If Gaga is coming in, thank goodness Jacob is gone! Whew. I am not a Gaga fan, but she is classically trained on the piano which means she knows the notes. Like Gaga Overload, I have had enough of her for a while. She is now like Sheryl Crow used to be – EVERYWHERE. Go away.
