Definitely works for me…really, I just hope there isn’t some sort of twist that one of Rosie’s parents killed her. I don’t think I could handle that.

Watch Stan Larson. His facial expressions tell it all. I think he caught his daughter having sex with someone and went into some kind of rage – going back to his old behavior – he tried to teach her a lesson that went way wrong!

    • And…

Why did Stan tell Belko that he bought the house for Rosie as a birthday present (because she never had a back yard)? It just seemed very odd and rather random. Plus it looked like they were scraping to make ends meet in there current place (apartment, I suppose) when Stan went to make the chocolate chip pancakes. What a strange family! I think it is odd, too, that other than the dark hair, Rosie does not look like either of the parents. Definitely more than meets the eye with this show. Can’t wait to see the other episodes and I really feel The Killing deserves a second season IF (and it is a big IF) there is another story with the same level of suspense to be told. If they are going to go downhill as fast as Damages in Season 2, then just give us a great Season 1 to go out on top!

The Killing could certainly do more seasons–like The BBC’S “Prime Suspect” with Helen Mirren as DCI Jane Tennison (or various other BBC detective series, actually, like “Wire in the Blood”). I realize Prime Suspect 1-7 were actually considered miniseries (ranging from 4-6 hours each), but you get my point. It IS possible to keep the premise of the show around the lead detective and her life… and yet have extraordinarily engaging story-lines each season. And if anyone can do it, I would say the writers of The Killing could pull it off (based on the 5 episodes I’ve seen so far).
I would miss Sarah Linden if she were only in one episode.

Doc – one of the many things that I miss about Lost is your wacky theories. Glad that you and those theories are back. I’m enjoying The Killing and love that a Lost alum (Alan Dale) is with us.

Stan put such an emphasis on saying he got away from the mob life 17 years ago. On the one hand, it’s about right for when he and his wife started a family. On the other … maybe Rosie wasn’t his kid. Which is why the goon said “family comes first.”

Meanwhile, I think they gave up too soon on finding clues connected to the other half of the mystery … the car. It’s all been about Rosie, understandably, but that particular car had to be important for a reason.

Jasper’s dad is in the lead for the killer, particularly since he’s gone out of the country so conveniently.

I don’t think that Bennet was screwing Rosie either those shoes were more than what could be afforded on a teacher’s pay. But Rosie may have confided to him who she was seeing.

    • MeToo

I also think that Bennet is a red herring. Perhaps he was just being a great teacher and trying to boost Rosie’s self esteem with those letters found in the globe. If he is about helping kids (the ones at the rec center, students, etc.) this is a very reasonable way for a teacher to act. Many teachers make a connection with students and try to get them to further their writing talents to have a better life than that which they are being brought up in. For as pretty as Rosie was, there seem to be plenty of people weighing her down – the mom, the dad, Sterling, Jasper, etc. Who knows? I am still sticking with Rick knowing more than he should, and I just don’t like that guy….

I’m with Melissa on this one. Callum Keith Rennie is always, always, always a freak, if not an evil freak in everything he is in – Battlestar Galactica, Harper’s Island – even Californication, while not evil, he is a wackjob. No way am I buying him as a “normal” love interest for Linden. He may not be “the” killer, but I will lay money that he is “a” killer, or a criminal of some sort.

    • dr zoid

      Typecasting? I wonder…

    • Ugh

Something is definitely “off” with that guy. I also can’t buy him living in Sonoma… Portland, maybe, Sonoma, not at all… Run, Sarah, Run!

  • Jesse

my burning question is to whom and what was holder talking about so secretively on the phone in that one scene

    • iram

My guess his sponsor of narcotics anonymous

      • Bette

Do you think Holder previously worked as an undercover narc, but developed a drug dependance from being under “deep” cover. Got too caught up in the lifestyle and/or mission.

  • Heidi

Who is Jasper Jensen’s father and who does he support? Same for his mother? Any connection establishing him with anyone else like Gwen or HER dad?

Bennett is not the killer, I don’t even think he was the lover. He sounds like he wants to encourage her in those letters. It could be why she started acting different towards Sterling et al. Where did Jack go to school? Did he know Rosie?

Did anyone notice that of the three pictures in the kitchen of Rosie’s parents, the first picture looked like a diablo mask? I could be wrong, and it could mean nothing. Just a strange thing I noticed.

I agree that Jamie could have killed Rosie but I’m also wondering about Rick. Man he wants her and Jack out of there. He just rubs me the wrong way.
The other thought I had about the electoral candidate Richmond was that the press mentioned his wife died the same way many years ago…how long has Gwen been involved… just some initial thoughts.

    • Amanda

I was also struck by the reference to Richmond’s prior tragedy and figured that it would ultimately come into play somehow. I’m not convinced that Gwen is involved, so it could be that the links between Rosie’s murder and the murder of Richmond’s wife are through a character that is yet to be revealed. Love you Doc! I was always too intimidated to respond to your Lost posts, but this one seemed low-brow enough for me.

  • Brian K

I don’t think you should publicly be trying to solve it, it will just ruin things for a lot of people who won’t be able to resist clicking to see.

  • moonbeams

Sorry, I don’t agree with the campaign manager as murderer. I think the stolen car being from the campaign was truly a coincidence that was exploited for political gain by the opposition.
my money is on Sterling and her nasty friends Kris and Jasper.

The Killing…Twin Peaks without the weirdness??? Who killed Laura, I mean Rosie. (both good shows though)

    • Bhakti

Actually, the only similarity is the marketing/ad slogan: Who Killed Rosie…? Because if you think about it, EVERY detective/murder investigation is about “who killed the victim?”

I think the slogan “Who killed Rosie…?” is a blatent rip-off of Twin Peaks. Not very original marketing on AMC’s part, I’ll agree with you 100% on that point, but it seems to be grabbing viewers.

  • Bette

Who killed Rosie Larsen? (Yes, I’m playing fair: I have only seen the episodes you’ve seen.)

Doc … Sounds good to me as long as you don’t pull a fast one and visit the set of The Killing.

  • stilllovelost

my biggest question is what Mitch’s sister asked—

  • stilllovelost

oops–WHY DIDN’T SHE TALK TO HER DAUGHTER ALL WEEKEND??–especially in this day and age with cell phones. could shoes & sweater be payoffs for her silence??are there 2 or 3 murders??rosie, Richmond’s wife and another dead girl??

  • madeleine

The Sonics dropped the “super” some time ago. You are from Seattle?
