Green Lantern’s power ring just might be one of the coolest super-hero accessories in all of comic books, a mystical emerald band that functions as a tidy symbolic summary of the geeky genre’s wish fulfillment fun. It lets you fly. It protects you from danger… unless that danger is colored yellow, the ring’s only flaw. It lets you conjure anything your mind can imagine — boxing gloves, a battering ram, even a big crusty ball of boogery nose cheese, if you choose — for the purpose of bashing the snot out of bad guys. Beat that, Batman!
Green Lantern’s wickedly cool jewelry also makes him an ideal next gen videogame hero. Gun battles and swordplay? Yawn. Conjuring a giant green hammer made of hard light to pummel foes into submission? Okay, now we’re shaking things up a little. The forthcoming Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment videogame Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters will attempt to realize the super-hero’s super videogame potential, just as the forthcoming movie that inspired the title will try to make the DC Comics legend a big screen super-power on par with Iron Man and The Dark Knight. The videogame — in stores June 7, 10 days before the flick, and available on all gaming platforms — boasts the participation of Green Lantern star Ryan Reynolds and features an original story that serves to compliment the movie story by exploring other aspects of the character’s mythology — specifically, the Manhunters, the gone-bad predecessors to the intergalactic peace keeping force known as the Green Lantern Corps. The trailer, which you can see below exclusively, gives you a sense of the gameplay and visuals, and it also gives fanboys a chance to hear Reynolds’ intone Green Lantern’s fabled oath. There’s no big crusty ball of green boogery nose cheese in evidence, but maybe that’s for the best. Check it out and then sound off below: Will you be hunting down and playing Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters this summer?

GL was made for video games. I just hope it’s not another terrible movie tie in game like 95% of them are. Looks decent from the visuals, but that doesn’t mean it’ll play well. I’m looking forward to giving this a tryout though.
I can only hope that it plays the way it looks. It looks fantastic. Although most of the time video game movies really bite the big one.
That looks awesome. Question: The big robot-looking things…are they Manhunters? And did I see some sort of Star-Sapphire creatures fighting GL?
No one escapes the man hunters!
NEVER, EVER, buy a videogame based on a movie. They are always garbage.
Spider-Man 2 was amazing. It was pretty much Grand Theft Spider-Man
second this. the first one was also good.
Yeah, but wasn’t that because the game was made as a stand-alone, and not as a poorly conceived movie?
Sorry, I meant to say poorly conceived movie tie-in.
I dunno about that. Maybe its the fact that I enjoy point-and-click adventure games moreso than the rest of the populace, but I do have fond, fond memories of the Blade Runner PC game.
Two other great examples: Goldeneye and Who Framed Roger Rabbit. BOOM!
Agreed. Goldeneye was an AMAZING game (and movie of course). Still wish I had my N64 to play it…
You know what gets me animated – thinking that Doc still hasn’t posted his long promised/long delayed final column on Lost!
I think he did post it. It was right around the christmas/new years eve for 2010. There was also an article in the 2010 year in review issue written by doc about Lost.
This looks awesome. I hate film video games (except the first two Spider-Man ones and LoTR and maybe a couple of others). But this game looks like it uses what GL is made of, the amazingness of the power ring.
this will be a flop like the first super hero movie next month, thor.
it will suck!
maybe you need to get out more?
I enjoy E.T. for Atarri and Back to the Future for the Nentendoh.
