The rebooted version of Thundercats will arrive on Cartoon Network in July, but you can check out an extended look at the series in a new trailer that was presented over the weekend at WonderCon. I didn’t watch the original Thundercats and am generally skeptical about shows that feature talking cat-people with spiky hair, but at least based on the trailer, the show looks pretty nifty. The animation has a bright anime sheen, and there are plenty of epic sword-vs.-robot battle scenes, complete with an awesome war cry: “Fight like cats! For our ancestors! For the pride!” (Fun fact: Larry Kenney, the voice of Thundercats protagonist Lion-O in the original series, is back in the new show as Lion-O’s father.) Check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think about the newer, shapelier, epic-er Thundercats in the comments.

Sweet These plus Young Justies plus The GL show Cartoon network might be saved after all
Have you watched young Justice? So far it’s pretty underwhelming. (Yes I chose the Whelm word deliberately)
I continue to be dissapointedby the decline in standards of DC animated toons over the past 5 years or so. Was Justice League Unlimited their last decent TV effort? I may be missing something?
Your not missing anything. Animation standards with a few exceptions have nose dived in the last 10 years. Cheap Saturday morning cartoons from the 70s and 80s are looking like fine art in comparison.
I’m actually really enjoying Young Justice…
why isnt anybody ever ‘whelmed’??
Snarf snarf
I have to admit… I kinda got goosebumps…
You’re generally skeptical about talking cat people with spikey hair? Hello this is a cartoon not live action!
I grew up watching Thundercats, and watching the repeats in college on cartoon network. Can’t wait to see the reboot…snarf!
Being animated doesn’t change that it’s talking cat people with spiky hair.
my point is that they must be skeptical about every cartoon then
Daisy does seem to have a point. Talking, scarily sexy, cat people seem to be in a lot of Japanesetoons too.
They better be bringing back the opening theme somewhere in the remake.
Totally agree! But I’m sure it’ll be some lame modern remake with a thousand sound effects for the ADD kids. We old people who grew up watching the original are not in CN’s target demo
I wonder if the new mumm-ra will have just as much drool problems as the original?
This was not bad. I don’t like the CGI mechs, but at least it seems like Thundercats, with a clean animation style. Mumm-Ra’s voice will be a big factor for me…I thought it was cool on the original.
Not crazy about how young the new Lion-O is, but everything else is looking pretty cool.
Didn’t see Panthro anywhere in the trailer. It’s gonna suck if there’s no Panthro…
There is a Panthro, it’s been confirmed in other images and things.
and cheetarah! gotta have cheetarah!
Okay, I did watch the original series, and loved it. From this trailer, the “rebot” looks pretty darn good. I will be adding it to my CN gotta watch list. Oh, and I like Young Justice. I also watch Ben 10, all of them, and Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Not much else to watch since they took of my Jimmy Neutron. Have a great evening.
Love Cheetara’s new look.
Ok Where the hell is Panthro?!!
ive neva watched thunder cats what is it about?
One day some of you will get out of your parents basements and realize that they make cartoons for kids. We enjoyed the original, now let the kids enjoy the reboot. “ADD” special effects and all.
Oh aren’t you so mature and wise…by the way the first cartoons were meant for adults and I’m pretty sure my kids aren’t paying the cable bills.
really? for adults? unless they cut out the gratuitous thundarian on thundarian sex and the maiming of mutants’ limbs from the original series I don’t think so. It was definitely meant for a younger audience.
just because it is for kids (children to those of us that are adult)does not mean that it is ok for the animation to suck also the original thunder tried ti instill certian values in children like honesty loyalty, protacting the rights of others ect. new cartoons are lacking this I think it is needed.
