He’s been a famous body builder. He’s been a killer cyborg from the future. He’s been Governor of California. And now, in this week’s exclusive cover scoop, Arnold Schwarzenegger reveals his plans for the next phase of his extraordinary career: He’s going be a cartoon superhero, known as The Governator. "When I ran for governor back in 2003 and I started hearing people talking about ‘the Governator,’ I thought the word was so cool," Schwarzenegger, 63, tells EW in his first press interview since leaving office last January. (Watch an EW-exclusive video of Schwarzenegger talking about the project.) "The word Governator combined two worlds: the world of politics and the movie world. And [this cartoon]

brings everything together. It combines the governor, the Terminator, the bodybuilding world, the True Lies…”

The animated TV show and comic book, being co-developed by no less a superhero authority than Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee (pictured, right), won’t be out until next year, but this week EW offers an exclusive early look at Arnold’s cartoon alter-ego. “The Governator is going to be a great superhero, but he’ll also be Arnold Schwarzenegger,” Lee says of the semi-fictional character. “We’re using all the personal elements of Arnold’s life. We’re using his wife [Maria Shriver]. We’re using his kids. We’re using the fact that he used to be governor. Only after he leaves the governor’s office, Arnold decides to become a crime fighter and builds a secret high-tech crime-fighting center under his house in Brentwood.”

Along with the Arnold Cave, the Governator will have a fleet of super vehicles at his disposal, a closet full of “Super Suits” that allow him to fly and perform other super stunts, the best gym and garcinia cambogia extract supplements for his secret lair and a team of colorful sidekicks, such as Zeke Muckerberg, the precocious 13-year-old computer whiz who acts as the Governator’s cybersecurity expert. Naturally, there will also be recurring supervillains — including an evil organization called Gangsters Imposters Racketeers Liars & Irredeemable Ex-cons (or G.I.R.L.I.E. Men, for short). For Schwarzenegger, the cartoon is obviously the next best thing to being President. “I love the idea of a control center below my house with a path so that boats and submarines can go right into the ocean,” he tells EW. “In the cartoon, my house is much closer to the beach than where we live, but, you know, it’s a cartoon.”

That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard of.

    • Kristina

      Well said, Commentator. Well said.

    • bruno

this is a joke right. the governator? laughable.

      • wazzup

I just showed the picture to 4 boys in my apartment building all under 10, and they are playing Governator now. Maybe the can make the neighborhood safer!( sounds like fun actually)

      • DL

If the comic is being done with a humorous twist, then it could be good. But if it’s supposed to be completely serious, well…

      • qwerty

Laughable ey? Well since it’s a comedy that should work out well…

    • Paul

This has to be an april fools joke.

    • Ramubay

No the dumbest things are the G.I.R.L.I.E. men commenting they want to see Elizabeth Taylor on the cover instead of Arnold, the comment about wanting to see a gay superhero and your comment.

    • jessiKU are

I showed the picture to my 8 year old and he wants the action figure!

      • crapmcpoopin

Your 8 year old is an idiot.

      • jessiKU are

If I went by the name “crap” “mc” and “poopin”, I wouldnt be calling anybody an idiot. Ha!!!

      • Idiot Puncher

@crapmcpoopin, no, fool, you’re a world class douchebag for calling an 8 year old an idiot. Get a life.

    • Allison

      Sounds pretty funny to me

    • peaches

Amen! Like the world has been clamoring for the “acting” stylings of Arnie. Give me a break. He took a huge dump on the state of California and ruined the education system. What’s worse is he made Twins and Kindergarten Cop!

  • KFed

I just checked: not April 1 yet. This is seriously your cover? For shame.

    • LOL

Arnold gets the cover over Liz Taylor? What a joke. (Yes, I know she is on the “back” cover, but that’s not good enough.)

    • Laundry

In my opinion, they probably figured that they would look like they’re behind other magazines, with Liz on the cover only now. But both Arnold and Liz, in their separate universes, have had am immense impact on popular culture, to the extent that we can refer to them by their first names only.

      • Sue1

        Sounds good, but No.

    • alex

Nah this is an April Fool’s joke. No way they would put Arnold on the cover over Liz Taylor.

  • Mark

Ugh, why Stan Lee? Stan hasn’t been an authority on Super-heroes for 40 years. Why do media companies keep going back to him for consulting on comic properties.

Read that story again and replace “Stan Lee” with “Grant Morrison”, “Geoff Johns” or ” Brian Michael Bendis”. now THAT would be an interesting project.

    • Mr. Holloway

How dare you? We’re talking about the creator of Stripperella here!

    • Brett

      Hacks. All of ‘em. Hacks.

      • crispy

I was going to respond to but A) you know nothing about comics, and B) you’re just trolling.

      • Alan

        But you did respond.

      • chuby doo

Bret was right! Brian Michael Bender is a hack!

    • Steven

They go back to Stan Lee because he created a bunch of characters which have become among the most famous fictional characters ever created, and that will in essence, live forever and which have become part of the American lexicon. Pretty good reasons I’d say.

    • Rodger

Answered your own question there, ‘media companies’ goto Stan Lee because he’s Stan Lee! The name itself is a brand to instantly make money. It’s entertainment!

      • crispy

Tell that to his bankruptcy lawyers.

  • Brian

I think this will be ridiculous, and therein lies the humor. Arnold doesn’t seem like one to take himself seriously by any means, so this makes perfect sense for him.
Add in Stan Lee for some comic book greatness, and I’d watch a few episodes.
Stallone should recur as a villain called Cliffhanger.

    • Shelly

@Brian – I love that idea! Get me Stallone’s agent now.

    • Rabid Anti-Dentite

      Now THAT would be hilarious!!

  • Bookerguy

Hey Stan Lee, where’s the “Hero” live action series featuring a gay superhero from the book by the late Perry Moore that was supposed to be made? Why not “Hero” first, then bring on “The Governator”?

    • Brett

Did Stan say he was going to do that project?

      • crispy

LOL at “Stan.” What is he, your great-great-uncle? Or your employer?

      • @crispy

That IS his name isn’t it, or is he supposed to say “Did that guy who they are talking about above…”?

  • crispy

Haha! No one ever believes me when I tell them that Stan Lee actually had little to do with the creation of Spider-Man and the X-Men. I’d like to submit this into evidence.

    • Brett

No one believes you because your statements are misleading and inaccurate.

      • crispy

        Keep on trollin!

      • GettaGrip

        and ALWAYS annoying.

    • dawg

Crispy…you’re really a LOOZER, Dont u have anything better to do than put down legends….Whats your claim to fame except hanging around loser bloggers like yourself?

  • Mark

If this is an actual cover, that means it will be i my mail box on April 1. And I pray to whatever gods are out there that it’s an April Fool’s joke…

  • Mr. Holloway

    Hey EW!

Closing the comments section on your post regarding the Ahnuld/Liz Taylor cover after people (including me) were ripping you apart for not giving Taylor the solo cover is even more chickens— than not putting Taylor on the cover in the first place.

    That is all.

    • crispy

Wow. They’ve really hit a new low… I thought it was just me, like I was banned or something!

      • LOL

Yeah because everything is all about you.

      • swimcoach1

you must come a very small town like rock hill to want to jump into a debate over comic books after admitting you know notjing about them. So troll on crispy.

      • crispy

        Yes, Atlanta is tiny.

    • Mr. Holloway

      @crispy
If you haven’t been banned by now for some of your comments, I doubt it’ll ever happen. :)

      • Mr. Holloway

(Whoops, sorry for the multiple posts.)

    • LOL

Rock on, Mr H. EW is chickensh**.

    • Karate Pants

      Yeahhh…weak, weak move.

    • Sue1

That explains why I couldn’t rip EW apart for such a ridiculous move.

    • Mel

Darn and I wanted to express my displeasure at them not giving Taylor the main cover. For shame EW.

    • Stu Pitt

Me too: What a ridiculous project, what a money-grubbing fool Stan Lee has developed into, how typical of EW to pander and to do everything they can to control their image. doesn’t this junk make you want to throw all this entertainment away? What a cesspool, what a waste of time.

    • MsSuniDaze

I was going to complain too and saw the comments closed. Never seen that before.

    • Heather

Yeah I’ve never seen them close comments before. I can’t believe they did it and why.

  • johnnymac

I think this is so ridiculous that its awesome.

  • Yuck

Can’t wait to see Angelina Jolies new comic book featuring Brad and the kids as well. Super-cool–

  • Beth

As a longtime fan, I LOVE the idea! Can’t wait to see it!

  • dinker

I think this is the coolest thing I ever saw. People looooove AHNOLD. Cant wait to see this!!!….

  • Batman123

this is like a mix of everything arnold said as well as Batman. I see a huge lawsuit on Arnold and Stan’s hands if they don’t get DC Comics consent to make this character.

  • inknpainter

Stan Lee is Gaaaaaaad! Spiderman and Iron Man are still better than anything ever done! He has more blockbuster characters than Speilberg and Lucas combined!

    Spielberg and Lucas combined!

  • muggle

    When Arnold speaks….people listen!!
If they do this cool, there will be nothing cooler!!!
