Simon Cowell talks 'Idol' with Piers Morgan: 'I personally think it is a better show than last year.'

The sky is blue. The Ryan Seacrest is orange. And season 10 of American Idol is much better than season 9, Simon Cowell tells Piers Morgan, while throwing on his Captain Obvious cape. In a preview clip for his March 14 interview on Piers Morgan Tonight, the former American Idol judge tells the CNN host: “I personally think it is a better show than last year. I genuinely do. I think what they’ve got is that it feels to me that they’ve got their energy back, that they’re confident, that they’re competitive.” What he means is, we’re no longer forced to watch a veteran judge with senioritis spending the course of a show daydreaming about whether or not he can place a house of cards on his flat top LEGO hair.

In the clip, Cowell also admits that the judge chemistry was off during season 9, when Ellen DeGeneres filled Paula Abdul’s seat on the panel. “I always think of Idol really as me, Paula, and Randy,” Cowell tells Morgan. “And I think when other people were brought in, and Paula wasn’t there, it was, to me, like being on a different show… weird atmosphere.” Aw, guys, I’m totally imaging that moment from season 2 when Paula and Simon made out during the finale. I bet if she sees this quote, Paula will start preparing to dangle Simon from her rear-view window. See the preview clip below!

I’m so sick of Simon all over the internet and the TV promo’ing the X Factor. So sick of it.

  • real fan

Didn’t read the artice, didn’t watch the video. They both annoy me!

    • Ed

But you decided it was worth your effort and time to make a comment about two people who annoy you?

It is a better show because he is not on it! US X factor is going to flop here and that makes me smile!

    • Jamil

      U r not cheryl cole r u? If u r then I c ur point, u not being on it, sucks ha!

      • Mo

Uggggggh. Could you please bother typing out full words? Because I’m sure having to type the extra two letters in each of the words above would have just broken your back for the rest of the day. I mean, I certainly can see the point of typing, say, FYI instead of “for your information”, but c for see and u for you? Really? Really?? REALLY????

X Factor is going to be a massive hit over here. It’s going to walk all over the sad remains of Idol. And you’re going to eat crow.

  • TorontoTom

Does he have any shirts with buttons?!?

  • Mary

What’s up with his eyes? Guyliner? Mascara? or some help from a plastic surgeon? He looks like he has eye shadow on? Does anyone else think his eyes look different?

    • DFSF

      It’s MANscara.

You guys are idiots. Simon is dead on. Like him or not, his comments (as usual) are exactly right. Idol is better than last year. And the US version of X-Factor will be a huge hit. Although I do not think he will find a huge superstar. In that regard I feel it will fail. But ratings wise, US X-Factor will demolish the competition. Mark my words.

  • Lior

Yes Mary! I was thinking the same thing!
His eyes are just different here, I have no idea what it is. If it’s makeup, the makeup person should be fired. If it’s lack of makeup he had on Idol, the Idol makeup person should get a raise!
I hope it’s not just old age creeping up on him lol

I’m not really following Idol anymore (just not my thing), but this season is the best it’s been in ages. Very well done. And give credit where it’s due. For all the talk about Simon’s ego he’s not above acknowledging a job well done, even if he’s not involved.

  • jiggy

Simon hit the road jack! Cue Beyonce’s Irreplacable.

  • Pam

I believe Simon is a brilliant man with a golden touch! He’s astute, savvy, has good instincts for the right talent and he’s not hard on the eyes either. I miss him and I don’t watch Idol any more because both he and Paula aren’t on it any more.

  • Aaron

Simon is one really hot man.

  • Jason

It’s not that Paula was gone. IT was that Ellen and Kara were awful at the job. Stephen and J-Lo have proven that it can be done without PAula. Had they gotten J-lo last year instead of Ellen and fired KAra it would have worked.

    • PurpleCheetah

Totally agree with you on that one! Ellen didn’t fit in and Kara was horrible. Simon was the reason I kept watching the show even after it lost its sparkle and his being gone was the reason I didn’t plan to watch this season….but I gave it a chance after other people were saying that it was actually still pretty good without Simon. It is good in a different way, Tyler and Lopez are too nice, but they do offer some good advice at times. I still miss Simon’s dead-on critiques.

    • Kimmie

I agree. J Lo would actually have been a better replacement for Paula than Ellen, and if it had been J Lo, Randy, and Simon last season, it would have been just right. Simon was the reason I kept watching last season, too, and I no longer watch now that he’s gone. And I’m hearing that Tyler and J Lo, like Ellen last season, are showing their flaws as judges now that the competition is officially underday.

  • Alozie

lol, at the guy that didn’t watch the video or read the article, but spends time writing his opinion. You’re a real winner dude.

  • Alozie

Oh, and Simon is cool. I still like his refreshing honesty.

  • Katherine

I like Simon and it is true, as much as I love Ellen she threw the whole Season 9 judging off…….BUT….Tyler and Lopez are way too nice and they do not address, tone, tune, pitch or the correct songs for the individuals…Randy seems to be the only encouraging honest and truthful judge…these kids do not need someone telling them the the lousey song they choose and sang whcih was awfully sung was “beautiful”…..Can’t wait for Simons X FACTOR and hope Jessica Simpson is one of the Judges

    • dee

i agree. i thought jlo and steven were great in the audition rounds where fun and supportive is ok, but they need to step it up. i didn’t miss simon during the auditions but i miss him now.
