The Auto-Tune the News/Scientists/WhateverYouCanImagine thing is nothing new, but rarely has it been done as well as the Gregory Brothers‘ montage at the Oscars tonight. We started off with a sweet ballad between Hermione and Ron in Deathly Hallows, which quickly transitioned over to Woody’s soothing croon before his gang in Toy Story 3. Then – Bam! — on over to the dance floor for Sean Parker’s “Billion Dollars” speech in Social Network — [whisper] a biiiillion – before concluding with the always mellifluous Edward’s question for the ages in Eclipse: Doesn’t Jacob own a shirt? Quick, slick, and good for a few giggles. Well done, Oscars.
Anyone else think that was a highlight tonight?

DEFINITELY the best part of the Oscars (so far).
It was pretty lame I thought, all in all an unforgettable oscars program, it felt like James Franco kept staring off in the distance and was very monotone, the intro was flat. The funniest bits were with Billy Crystal and Bob Hope, it proves once again, Billy Crystal should be hosting the show.
Seriously, who told her she could sing? Paltrow was terrible, and it was a bit of a stretch, if down right lie, that Jennifer Hudson introduced her as a country star – far from it
I think James Franco is just very deadpan in his delivery- I think he was the perfect balance to Anne’s over- enthusiasm, and I thought they did a fine job overall. Really enjoyed this tune- especially the Ball of Light by Ron & Hermione bit- cracked me up!
The gregory brothers were awesome. Schmoyoho, accent on the YOOOOOOOOO!
I laughed. I also like how they show you can make a song out of anything. I hate those other videos people have been making out of anything to make a song.
loved the ron/hermione ballad, totally laughed with delight. it just came out of nowhere.
Very, very funny. Should have been longer.
i thought it was the completly opposite. It was cringe worthy. It was more fitting for the MTV Movie Awards.
Completely agree. For me, the whole telecast was awkward and uncomfortable, but this was the lowest point.
Very funny! Quite unexpected….
It was quite funny
Loved it! Best part of the Oscars!
the Gregory Brothers rocked it!!!!
I agree – they were so great. I just wish the Oscars, and now EW.com, would give them credit for it!
I agree, Laura. Give credit where credit is due. The Oscars did mention them by name in the closing credits, but EW should at least give them a shout out.
For those not in the know (including, apparently, this reporter), the clip was created by the Gregory Brothers, aka “schmoyoho” on YouTube. They’re the same people responsible for autotuning “Bed Intruder” and “Double Rainbow.”
Loved it! Thought the Ron/hermione bit was priceless. That video is gonna go viral quick.
Thank gosh for that … it’s been the one and only redeeming value of this gawd-awful snoozefest.
Really? I’m the first hater?
nope
Not at all. I was embarrassed just watching it.
My favorite part, too. I liked the opening montage, but the autotune songs were an unexpected treat.
Anyone else think the Ron/Hermoine song was actually kinda good?
No way Dean…the apotheosis of the worst produced Oscars…Ever (and I hate that overused expression…but it fits). It was the official Off-The Rails moment!!!!
This was amazing! The whole show was pretty good! Though it seemed like James Franco really didn’t need to be there, Anne Hathaway was amazing all on her own!
you’re standards are pretty low then. Hathaway may be beautiful, but she acted like she was emcee’ing the prom. The whole show was a bore.
Autotune will never be the highlight of anything. It is an abomination against the art of music. It shouldn’t be celebrated, it should be banned and forgotten. If you can’t sing, you can’t sing.
…having a laugh at the overindulgence of it all is the whole point….which u missed!
