James Franco and Anne Hathaway reenact the carnival scene from 'Grease'

This really is a new way to do the Oscars. James Franco continues his Twitter teases as Sunday’s ceremony approaches, most recently with a 19-second clip of he, co-host Anne Hathaway, and some dancing extras reenacting the carnival scene from Grease. This could be something from their opening, which producer Bruce Cohen has told EW will involve a combination of filmed and live elements, some singing, and “a very exciting and special guest star or two.” Or perhaps it’s a part of some kind of tribute to the movie musical. (Rumors had been circulating that the duo would be performing “Suddenly, Seymour” from Little Shop of Horrors, which Cohen told us sadly didn’t make the cut.) Watch the clip below, as well as some bonus promo outtakes. So far, I’m loving everything about the build-up to this year’s Oscars except ABC’s insistence that Franco and Hathaway are hosting “Oscar.” That annoy anyone else?

I’ve never seen Franco look cuter (except for in Pineapple Express…or anytime he smiles…I’m hopeless).

      THIS.. a thousand times THIS!

    • LOL

Grease is crap. I hope this is just to throw us off.

      ITA!!!

I’m not alone! What is it about his smile? Every single time he smiles, it’s so disarming and charming. You could be furious at him and he’ll just have to keep smiling at you and all is forgiven. What is this witchcraft?!

I think this is actually going to be a good show they seem to have good chemistry I bet Franco will be high the whole time! LOL

  • Steph

Wow, they really seem to want to make this a great show- and with these hosts I have little doubt that it will be great! I just hope we get to see the hosts and not that they disappear after the opening.

  • JLC

Anne Hathaway in the Olivia Newton-John catsuit? Yes please.

    • Mr. Holloway

      Ditto.

  • Wha’ever

  • Moe

    James Franco is my idol.

    • Poe

      thats sad :(

  • Lila

Wow, they are really taking advantage of having two young, rather attractive people (with reasonable singing voices) hosting!

  • lisa

I’m right there with ya. It’s called the “Oscars” not “Oscar!”

    • wtfnyc

Agreed completely. Overall, this seems like such a great idea — why ruin it by trying to make “Oscar” happen? (It’s not gonna.)

  • Matt

I think the show will be pretty good, I just hope people don’t crap all over it because of who wins certains awards.

  • jt

The spots for the show are so fun. They are both so engaging and damn cute together. Loving it so far.

  • Verity

Very much loving these two as hosts. Can’t wait to see what they bring to thse show.

  • alex

Love Franco.. Hathaway.. meh. her funny feels a little forced?

    • LOL

      “Meh” feels a little 2008.

      • alex

        and “LOL” is what?

      • Watson

        A screen name.

      • Amy

if there was a like button, i would so ‘like’ this exchange right now.

  • shane

    Ditto to Alex.
Franco is so talented that he makes everything seem effortless. (He was quite funny on Daily Show as well).
Anne…don’t quite get it but she is a bubbly and reasonably talented girl. I think she looks like a giraffe myself.

  • trishka

Love these two. Hathaway is naturally very funny.

  • Maureen

I have also been extremely annoyed that they are saying “host Oscar” instead of “host the Oscars” or “host the Academy Awards”. It has always been pluralized in past telecasts, so why have they dropped the “s” this year?

    • blahblah

Sing it! I didn’t get it initially till the end of the clip and I cringed.
