Behold, the first still of Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher in the upcoming biopic The Iron Lady. The film reteams Streep with her Mamma Mia! director Phyllida Lloyd and focuses on the 17 days leading up to the 1982 Falklands War.

Great point about the director (other than pretty scenery, Lloyd brought absolutely nothing to the table with “Mamma Mia”), but let’s not forget that Streep has picked up Oscar noms for stuff like “Music of the Heart” and relatively light fare like “The Devil Wears Prada.”
At this point, she could probably pick up a nom in her sleep.
Good God! When I first heard about the idea of Streep playing Thatcher I was sceptical. But she really does look like her. The question is will she sound like her?

She is the greatest actress ever, from Sophie Choice to the Devil Wears Prada, her ability to totally disappear and transform into that character is astounding. cant wait to see this

The expression on her face is totally Thatcher. Streep has 2 amazing things for her: unending acting talent and real ability to mimic. I’m sure her accent and voice will be perfect and she’ll will the Oscar again….and she should have won the Oscar last year for doing the same thing with Julia Child. I just hope they keep writing scripts for older female characters so she never retires.
Meryl Streep is not just another older female. Screenwriters will literally create scripts JUST for Meryl. She’ll never have to worry about work. She is one in million.

Meryl is one of the greatest actress’ of our time…hands down. Mama Mia aside…she has been nothing short of AMAZING in every film she’s every made. Love her.
