Spot Inspection: What's the most-played 'Glee' song on your iPod?

Filed under: Glee, Music, Television, TV and tagged: , , ,

Watching the sneak peek of the Warblers’ cover of Destiny’s Child’s “Bills, Bills, Bills” from this Sunday’s post-Super Bowl episode (embedded below), I had two thoughts: Thank goodness Will didn’t sing this (I envision a lot of Matthew Morrison’s signature spin move), and I’m buying that on iTunes (done). That made wonder, what’s the most played Glee song on your iPod? I’ve got one Glee song in my Top 25 most played — “Bust Your Windows.” The rest of my Glee Top 10, in order: ”Teenage Dream,” “Defying Gravity,” and “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” (tie), “Last Christmas,” “Take a Bow,” “Hey, Soul Sister,” “No Air,” “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” and “Hello.” What’s interesting: Aside from the Christmas songs, the Glee covers of those tracks were the first versions I actually purchased for my iPod. I’m not saying they’re better than the original, but that if I don’t already have a song that I like on my iPod, I’m more likely to buy the Glee version when it reminds me of it. That happen to anyone else?

    #1. Poker Face
    #2. Somebody to Love

That slowed down version of Poker Face is so much better than the original – it’s like a completely different song.

    • Mr. Holloway

I’ve only heard “Poker Face” within the context of the show, and I was too distracted by the fact that it made ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE that it was the song Rachel would pick to as a duet for her and her mother.

Maybe if I just listened to it on its own, I could appreciate it on its own merits over time.

      • Andie

Omg, right?! That always bothered me! What a stupid song choice for what should have been a profound mother/daughter moment.

      • Monty

I don’t remember which actress sang the line but i just remember one of them sang about their ‘muffin’…just a tad out of place in a mother/daughter duet piece…

      • No Doubt

The show’s use of Poker Face was REALLY weird and distracting. That is definitely a Glee song I would not pay to download!

      • Sally

I love the original song, but gotta agree with you. It was a horrible song choice for Rachel to sing with her mother. Made no sense and was my last straw for the show. I bailed on the show after that – there are just too many songs inserted in the show because they got the rights and not because they make sense for the storyline.

      • tfs

so true, that was incredibly awkward for them to sing that together.

      • Regililta

Putting aside the awkwardness of the mother-daughter scene, the song itself was amazing vocally. Lea Michele + Idina Menzel FTW!

it’s nearly identical to the version Mika performed for BBC Fearne Cotton, months before the version on Glee hit…it’s kind of annoying that a lot of their “original” arrangements are just copied from artists who did it before (I’m looking at you “I Want to Hold Your Hand”)

      • AK

@hr: You do realize Mika was just covering Lady Gaga’s rearrangement of her own song, right?

    • Kim E

      “Maybe This Time”-Love this song!

      • Bobby’s Robot

Definitely Kristin Chenowith – One Less Bell to Answer/A House is Not a Home

      • Lily

Agree with Bobby’s Robot… I did not really liked it when I saw the episode “Home”, but when I bought the Glee soundtrack…I think I already his the repeat button a 100 times for the mash up “One Less Bell to Answer/A House is Not a Home “

      • Lily

Agree with Bobby’s Robot.. (sorry Kurt/Finn)

    • Michele

faithfully, open your heart / Borderline mashup was genius… completely genius

  • Mr. Holloway

“Hello”, “Somebody to Love”, and “No Air.”

  • Mike from CA

“Somebody To Love”, “True Colors,” “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and “Teenage Dream.”

    • Mike from CA

P.S. Thanks for plugging “Bills, Bills, Bills.” Everyone seems to hate it, so I’m glad to find one other fan!

      • Remy

Not alone. I’m loving their cover of it.

      • Rashad

        #1 Thriller/Heads Will Roll
#2 Anyway You Want It/Lovin’ Touchin’ Squeezin’
        #3 Don’t Stop Believin’

      • Erin

        “Baby its Cold Outside”
“A House is not A Home”
        “Time Warp”
        “Dont Rain on my Parade”

  • Brooke

Teenage Dream for sure on the ipod! I have cds of Glee music that I listen to in the car, and “Somebody To Love” is my #1 car song.

    • bkwrm

I just have to add “Bust Your Windows” and totally agree with you.
I have very few Glee songs on my ipod cause I prefer the CDs. But my list is:
      1. Teenage Dream
      2. Safety Dance
      3. Beth
      4. Forget You

  • Vilya

    1. Somebody to Love
    2. My Life Would Suck Without You
    3. Endless Love (I can’t stand the original version, but I can’t get enough of Mr. Shue and Rachel singing it!)

  • Tyre

One Less Bell to Answer / A House Is Not a Home & Rose’s Turn.

    • Lily

      Yes yes yes !

  • orville

    Bad Romance, definitely.

    • Maddie

Yes! Bad Romance is #1! Then I would have to go with Don’t Rain on my Parade, Hello, Teenage Dream, and Start Me Up/Livin’ On A Prayer

  • Jonathan

Most played was Bust Your Windows, but Gives You Hell overtook it; basically any song that Lea Michele has a big part in gets played a ton. Without her I’d probably have less than half as many Glee songs as I do.

    • mary

      Ditto. Any Lea Michele song.
      1. Somebody to Love
      2. Defying Gravity (Lea Michele solo)
      3. Need You Now
      4. Dont rain on my parade
      5. Push it (video version)
      6. Halo/Walking on sunshine

  • Katie

“Don’t Rain On My Parade,” “Somebody to Love,” and “Don’t Stop Believing”

  • KarenPR

Defying Gravity. It’s also the only Glee song I have…

  • Erica

Probably one of Mr. Schue’s white-boy-rapping tracks. Don’t judge.

    • econruth

Don’t feel bad! I’m right there with you.

    • Regililta

Mr. Schue is hot when he dances while singing white-boy-rap, so no judgment here!

    • Mary Ann

I agree!! Also, River Deep Mt High, Safety Dance, Defying Gravity, and Teenage Dream.

  • Wendy

    1. Don’t Stop Believe’n
    2. Somebody to Love
    3. To Sir with Love
    4. Alone
    5. Defying Gravity

    • Erin

Somebody to Love doesn’t grab me, but love your other choices. Alone is my favorite. I could listen to that song over and over. Kristin won me over with that one.
