Next week's 'NCIS' to feature 'lost scene.' What do you hope it is? -- EXCLUSIVE

NCIS-PuzzleImage Credit: CBSThe Feb. 8 episode of NCIS finds Gibbs’ team undergoing mandatory psych evaluations. It’s Sweeps fun, yes, and a nod to shows like M*A*S*H, but also something we can all admit is probably long overdue. The episode was written by exec producer Gary Glasberg, who tells EW each character will get his or her time with Dr. Rachel Cranston (Wendy Makkena), and we’ll see flashbacks to key moments from every season of the eight-year-old show. The episode will also feature one never-before-seen scene from the series that CBS is dubbing the “NCIS lost scene.” To get fans talking, the network has just launched the #NCISLostScene campaign. Starting today, a new piece of that lost scene will be revealed in a photo puzzle (pictured) at www.cbs.com/ncis daily, along with a clue for fans to guess what it is. When you take the conversation to Twitter, use the hashtag #NCISLostScene.

We were able to get two clues out of Glasberg:

• The inclusion of the lost scene was a cast member’s idea. “[He or she] remembered a scene that we had done that never made it into the show. A few people here who’ve been with the show since day one had a very vague memory of it. And then it took us a while to go back into dailies — these things are literally kept in storage facilities in vaults — and find this footage. Once we all looked at it, we were thrilled. It was exciting to find something that fit the story so well and helped the episode.” So we’re talking about something from an earlier season…

• Asked to describe the mood of the scene, Glasberg says, “That’s interesting. There’s some humor to it, and there’s also a tremendous amount of emotional resonance. I think it’s one of those NCIS moments that will just be satisfying for people on a lot of levels. It’s not a broad comedic moment in any way, that’s for sure. In dealing with an episode where people are sort of analyzing themselves and looking inward, it’s a moment that will provide some insight for people into some stuff from the past.”

So, what are you hoping the scene is? And after the reveal of the first puzzle piece — the upper left-hand corner of the photo above — what’s your initial guess?

Bonus scoop: Who knows if this relates at all to the lost scene, but we can tell you that you are not crazy if you watched the promo for the episode and thought Dr. Cranston resembles Caitlin (Sasha Alexander), the member of Gibbs’ team who took a bullet to the forehead in the season 2 finale (earning her a spot in our countdown of TV’s 20 most shocking deaths). “I hope that people pick up on stuff like that all through the episode,” Glasberg says. “There’s lots of little things layered throughout this episode for people to get excited about and pick up on. In sort of classic NCIS fashion, there are comments, lines of dialogues, and things that not only inform the present story that we’re dealing with, but also some stuff to come, and offer commentary on stuff that’s happened previously as well.”

I hope it’s a scene with Kate. While I much prefer Ziva to Kate, I would love to see them remember her with something we’ve never seen

    • Erin

I hope it involves Kate too considering her death was rather impactful and we are talking pysch evals.

I love me some throw-back and continuity so I’m very much looking forward to this ep! I bet it was either Michael or Mark who came up with the scene. Perhaps Michale since, isn’t he directing?

  • Kiki

I hope they get into the consequences of Ziva being captured and tortured. So far this season, it’s almost like it never happened.

  • Blam

Maybe something to do with Kate’s murder? That would be emotional and, depending on which cast member was reliving the memory, could be quite humourous (sp?)

    Better writting!

another series high for viewers last night for NCIS…got to believe that next weeks episode does the same

  • LarLa

Love it to be Ziva and Tony in Paris but it doesn’t sound like it was that recent

  • ANNA

It Should Be Kate and Tony Kissing!!

Sorry, I never saw that in their relationship.

Bad EW, doing this to me all day.

  • Renee Fontana

It’s Abby and McGee, that had a brief, but memorable fling way back.

Just guessing based on that top left corner of the picture they are giving us now i bet the scene takes place in the elevator at NCIS

    • JAM

I agree with Elevator. Judging from the hair it’s not Gibbs, Tobias or any of the ladies. Possibly either DiNozzo or Elf Lord.

      • Ashley

Elevator scene was my first guess as well. I can’t wait to see this!

    • Znachki

Looks like the elevator to me too. That little piece of hair looks like Ducky’s to me. Of course that doesn’t mean he’s the only one there.

    • tvfan

Does that red dot look like a lazer target or an elevator light.
I like the elevator guess, but it could be in autopsy, with Ari, just saying…

  • S

Hmmm…elevator’s a possibility. There’s also a puzzle piece in the lower middle that appears to have a red dot like a laser sight on it.

    • tvfan

I agree, but it could be a misdirect.

  • AB

I also immediately thought “elevator”. I’m betting it was Michael Weatherly that mentioned the scene as he’s been really involved with writing/directing lately

  • John

I hope it’s Kate. I prefer Kate to Ziva, due to the fact that Kate and Tony didn’t have romantic feelings for each other, but more of a sibling rivalry. Season 2 was the shows best season. But it still remains my favourite drama on television.

  • Lyss

It’s either an elevator or the sky background of the rooftop where Kate was killed…

  • bethanymae

I’m pretty thrilled about this–I’ve been watching NCIS forever, and I can’t wait to see what they do with this episode–there is so much potential for so many things! This episode sounds like a dream come true for many fans. Few shows get better every year, and this is one of them.

Oh, and my bet? It’s definitely and elevator scene with one of our leading men. I’m guessing it’s a Tony/Kate or Tony/Gibbs scene.

  • dee

I’m pretty sure it’s going to be something about when Tony and Gibbs first met. I kinda missed a few episodes due to falling asleep as soon as I get home, so I”m kinda out of the loop if they showed it yet. Read a spoiler on it.
