The Swanson Pyramid of Greatness on last night’s Parks and Recreation is a truly inspired piece of both graphic design and comedic genius. (And another great moment in Futura’s pop culture dominance. Watch your back, Wes Anderson.) While I’m partial to “Cabins: A place to rest that is made of logs,” I also love the idea of “thick and impenetrable” torsos. And “Perspiration: Only sweat during physical activity or love making. No emotional sweating.” Words to live by, PopWatchers. Click here for the full-size version.
What’s your favorite entry, PopWatchers? Is it a protein?

I like intensity. “Give 100%. 110% is impossible. Only idiots recommend that.” I agree 100%. Not 110%.
My pet peeve too. People must be called on it every time they use it.
INSPIRED? Ron’s Pyramid is directly based on Coach Wooden’s pyramid that he used when coaching UCLA basketball. Oh, and Coach Wooden is from Indiana. Look, it’s a wonderful tribute/homage, but let’s not act as if the P&R writers came up with this one on their own.
They didn’t say who inspired it or that it was an original idea.
Sounds like a thing in life was used as the the basis for comedy. Imagine that.
Do you read? “a truly inspired piece of both graphic design and comedic genius”. The graphic design is a direct copy of John Wooden’s Pyramid of Success. I’m not saying that it wasn’t funny, but it is satirizing Wooden’s Pyramid of Success, it is not a complete newly invented piece of comedy.
I have seen many different Pyramids of… in my life, it just another fun way to make a graph. No one owns it.
Is Arrested Development any less original because of The Simpsons? Hell, is The Simpsons any less original because it borrows from everything else? Nothing is original. It only matters if it’s funny.
this ken guy sounds like a real db.
I have to agree with the John Wooden guy. It was first presented in an episode on a youth rec. league basketball game at which Ron was the coach. Also there was an homage to Bobby Knight at the end when Ron kicked and threw a chair onto the court
I love that Ron Swanson knew I’d be reading from the bottom up!! “Skim Milk. That’s right, it’s on here twice.”
You’re supposed to read a pyramid from the bottom up. Derp.
Capitalism: God’s way of determining who is smart and who is poor.
-Hilarious, also could have been said by Jack from 30rock. best quote
There are several that would be applicable to both men. And that is why they’re both so super great.
Could have been said by a Republican.
If any other word is good enough for sailors, it’s good enough for you.
That’s one of my favorites!
i want a blown up version to hang in my house. just as a general set of guidelines i can refer to as needed.
Printing it out now to hang in my cubicle…
Opted to make it my screensaver instead – I can read all the building blocks!
Thanks! Now it’s mine too! Lol didn’t even think of it!
I already printed mine! Haha!! Love the Ron Swanson code.
grooming – only women shave below the neck. lol!
This was pure greatness. Love the show.
Cursing is my favorite. I also think it’s funny that he has Romantic Love grouped with all the proteins.
Romantic Love grouped with protein was my favorite too!!
“There’s only one bad word…Taxes”
“Skim Milk: Avoid it”
The thing about shorts is great too. To pick my favorite portion of the pyramid would be difficult if not impossible. Perhaps it is meant to be loved as a whole.
i love how specific the shorts are. have we seen ron swanson in shorts? i cannot recall, but they must have certainly been six”.
Love that Romantic Love is sandwiched between cow, pig, chicken and deer protein! But not fish! Fish meat is practically a vegetable!
That was great!
wish i knew you would do this. I must have spent 15 minutes pausing at various times to read the whole thing. it is so funny
I love that “teamwork” and “selfishness” are right next to each other. And that “buffets” rate a spot right near the top.
Ah, the three W’s: Weapons, Woodworking and Welfare Avoidance.
Just printed out a copy to hang in my office with my collection of Barney Stinson motivational posters. POISE: Sting like a bee. Do not float like a butterfly. That’s rediculous.
I love P&R. Not just for its comedy but for its education. I learned something yesterday and you don’t say that often about comedies.
P&R = Awesome.
