'RED' writers working on a sequel. I'm okay with that.

redImage Credit: Frank MasiSummit Entertainment confirms that RED writers Jon and Erich Hoeber are writing a sequel to the action-comedy. “At this point the film has not yet been greenlighted,” a rep tells EW. “Beyond that there is no other information about cast available.” The film, which starred grossed $90 million domestically, and another $75 million in foreign receipts, earned a C+ from EW’s Keith Staskiewicz, who referred to the tale of ex-spies getting back into action as “essentially a 111-minute excuse to give Helen Mirren a machine gun.” The majority of moviegoers grading the film on our site scored it in the B-range, thinking that was good enough.

I saw RED with my 63-year-old mother (at 35, I was the youngest in theater by 15 years), and we both enjoyed it. Was it unforgettable cinema? No. But it was fun to see Mirren pack heat and act opposite Bruce Willis, John Malkovich, Morgan Freeman, and Brian Cox. (Spoiler: One of those actors doesn’t have to worry about whether to reunite for the sequel unless it’s a prequel.) There may have been holes in the plot, but that combination of actors, in that kind of story, was still refreshing. They’d have to make the script tighter this time, but I’d be willing to pay for a matinee (and then watch it on cable). What about you?

If you saw RED, what’s your pitch for the sequel? I can’t decide whether Willis’ love interest (Mary-Louise Parker) should have left him entirely or have been kidnapped and in need of rescue. I’m thinking the former. You get broken-hearted Bruce, angry and gun-shy about falling for someone again.

Soooooooo happy about that!!!!! I hope that they have Bruce and Mary as the two leads again. They had great chemistry.

I won’t see it unless Mary-Louise Parker is in it again. She’s the main reason I went. But I loved it. Not a fantastic, ground breaking movie but it was fantastically entertaining. Can’t wait for a sequel.

It was enjoyable and that can not be said by quite a few movies this year.

Karl Urban is crazy-hot. I would hope his character and his “cute hair” would join the band of retirees.

Mandy, that’s so funny! I’m 38 and I this saw over Thanksgiving when I visited my mom, 62, and we both enjoyed it (along with my wife).

I saw this with my husband, and we are both in our 20s. I’d be happy to see a sequel! (Any excuse to watch Bruce Willis in an action movie is enough for me.)

Ditto- my husband and I thought it was hysterical! Sometimes you want to see a movie just because it’s FUN and this one certainly was.

One of the most fun movies I saw last year. I’d definitely go see a sequel.

As long as they bring back Karl Urban as Cooper, I don’t care what the rest of the story is!!

This. He’s the only reason I saw it.

I don’t seem to remember this movie getting much love–or even attention–when it came out. Maybe there were just too many ensemble-driven action movies last year (The A-Team, The Expendables, The Losers, Takers, etc.) and it got lost in the shuffle? Too bad because I also thought it was a lot of fun. Bruce Willis and Mary-Louise Parker were my least favorite characters, but I’d love to see the other retirees + Urban again.

I see them teaming up to help one of Morgan Freeman’s character’s kids.

Exciting news- I thought it was a great movie and a lot of fun. My friends and I thought it was pretty funny when we saw it. John Malkovich plays crazy so well.
