How come noone commented on Courtney’s Justin Beiber haircut- the only thing I don’t like about her is that she was on the show last year. Backbeats being a “super group” made me not root for them- like they were too contrived.

  • Peter

Perfect assessment. “Why does this have to be a competition?” This finale is why; the groups don’t show up if it isn’t.

    • Peter

Oh, I did like Ben’s challenge to the audience: if your group didn’t win, get revenge by making them more famouser. In other words, support these groups by buying their stuff and, if possible, going to see them.

    • asdf

Absolutely agree. Even with the success of the Sing off and Glee, Acapella groups still get very like recognition in the music world. Here’s hoping that more people support the acapella community be buying their music, seeing them live, or even joining an acapella group.

  • Jim

Anyone else annoyed that the Sheryl Crow performance included guitars?

    • Anna L

      Yes, I am.

    • James Webster

yes I was annoyed. I am sure they had someone in the theater that could sound like a guitar

    • Swerds

Oh yes. And the added debate between my husband and I that you cannot have an “acoustic a cappella” performance. It’s either accompanied with acoustic instruments, or it’s unaccompanied. There is no both.

    • asdf

I also hated Nick Lachey’s explanation of Sheryl Crow combining acapella with a guitar. Message to Nick. When you do that, it is no longer acapella.

    • Momo

Yes! I paused the DVR until it was over and fast forwarded to the next performance. I don’t know how the actual performance was, and don’t care. It had no place on this show.

      • bootsycolumbia

I know you said you don’t care, but just for the record, you didn’t miss anything. Weakest performance of the night.

  • TJ. Church

Street Corner was always far & away the best. I hate to say it, but I think this was largely a religious (Christmas) &/or racial thing… Or the fact SCS will do fine w/o it, whereas Committed will disappear either way.

    • Ari

So a minority group won based on race? How is that possible given the demographics. There’s not pity involved, check the boards and blogs, committed have always been well received by people of various backgrounds.

Both SCS and Committed had the same number of Amazing, good, and decent performances. I think it comes down to SCS’s amazing performance being later in the season and Committed’s being earlier.

      • TJ. Church

Committed won largely based on race, but also religion & the fact they will do nothing besides the contract; Read it all before you reply.

Committed had 1 good for each one of SCS’s AMAZING. If we even recall Committed this time next year, I’ll be shocked.

    • Bea

      Lol. Bitter much?

      • TJ. Church

No. Do your ears work ever?

    • asdf

Completely disagree. Its more about musical taste. Committed attracts the gospel & 90s R&B crowd. SCS attracts the southern rock & country crowd. BB attracts the Glee fanatics. TOTT attracts the old school acapella crowd. To me, the viewers voted based on which genre they are fans of. Singoff should be congratulated for such a diverse final 4 appealing to such a wide music base.

  • Brigid

I enjoyed Street Corner Symphony more than Committed, but to be honest, Committed had tighter harmonies. I’m still sticking to my beliefs from the first episode that the Bubs > anyone from season 2 and Courtney looks ridiculously like Kristin Wiig.
As far as the puns go, I’m really just glad Nick Lachey has stopped pretending that The Sing Off invented the term “Swan Song,” like he did last season.

  • sting314

I’m glad they gave so much time to Courtney. I think she’s gorgeous and, like someone else said, the camera seems to love her and she has “it”.

    • Tristam

Amen, Courtney was a standout and deserves the love the judges gave her.

      • bootsycolumbia

She didn’t add anything to the group. Joanna had an amazing voice and so did the blond girl (I forget her name). Courtney is cute and she can beatbox. Big deal.

  • suebrody

I thought SCS should have won, and I’m really disappointed they didn’t (I voted for them), but I am sure that they will get a recording deal or at least get some gigs. I think Jeremy got the platform he needed and deserved, and I’m glad he could do it with his friends. If they couldn’t win, I was happy Committed did. The Back Beats annoyed me, and Jerry’s group shouldn’t even have been in the competition, IMO. At least it wasn’t like Idol, where the winner clearly didn’t deserve it. Oh, and Nick was AWESOME. Wish he had gotten to sing every week!

  • DH

    Several thoughts:
    1. I agree with many of the other posters that Street Corner was the better group. Their lead singer was always in tune. But I’m 0 for 2 voting for the winner so what do I know?
    2. Nick Lachey should never be allowed to host a show (sorry, Mr. Smith). He is the epitome of the banal and repetative. Oh, while I’m on that subject, add Mario Lopez to that list.
    3. By law, results shows should be limited to no more than 1 hour. They try to cram 10 minutes worth of show into a 2 hour time slot.
    4. When making comments and critiques, judges should not be allowed to say “I mean” more than twice per sentence.
    5. In what is supposed to be an amateur competition no contestant should constantly be referred to as “legendary.”
All in all, though, it was a fun season (if 7 shows qualify as a season) and I look forward to next year.

    • asdf

Nick Lachey is way better than Mario Lopez on ABDC. But this is not saying much.

And technically, NBC promoted this as a 5 show season.

      • DH

I stand corrected; I miscounted the number of shows. It would seem that I’m a prime example of why America lags behind the world in math.

  • David Michaels

JoAnna is too worried about making facial expressions while she sings, and she butchered Fleedwood Mac’s “Landslide” last week. I’m tired of Courtney and the “cry watch.” OK – we know she can beatbox – ENOUGH. Nicole Scherzinger is an IDIOT with the IQ of a gnat and the vocal range of a howler monkey. She offers nothing in her comments. If I hear one more time that she had “a musical climax, I may puke. Committed was outperformed all season and wins? C’mon!! And Neil Diamond still has it at almost 70!!!

    • Jenna

Haha, this comment is pretty angry and aggressive, but I do agree with it completely.

    • Charece

LOL! WHAT is a howler monkey??? Lol!

  • meespatti

Street Corner is going straight to Nashville to take meetings. I predict. They are better than Lady Antebellum. They can flavor it any way called for, and they don’t necessarily need to remain an acapella act.

  • Tristam

The Coldplay song was my least favorite of the night, but then again I am fairly sick of Coldplay. Committed did a fantastic job with their song; what show were you watching? In fact my least fave was “Aint No Mountain” because it is Idol-stale; I was hoping they’d do something with more power (and not from the oldies station). I would have chosen the Backbeats for second place because Kinton and his crew can dance, sing and yes, beatbox. Courtney is adorable; perhaps you are just used to the misery and snarkiness of Idol–how else could you be turned off by adorable inner cities kiddies getting free guitars?

  • kaydevo

Too bad Street Corner Symphony didn’t win as they were by far the best group. Jeremy Lister is amazing. Committed was good and seemed like really nice kids, but sounded amateurish at times. I agree that the finale was a letdown, like a mishmash, unlike the other episodes. The only star-sings-with-contestants performance that was well-done was Neil Diamond with SCS and Committed backing him up on Ain’t No Sunshine. Here’s hoping that SCS and/or Jeremy Lister get signed tomorrow. They’re ready for stardom.

    • TJ. Church

Jeremy got signed, & it went no place.

On the other hand, those who voted for Committed should be Committed.

  • Kimi

Street Corner Symphony all the way!..i was heartbroken they didnt win :( …i loved listenin to them every single time they preformed, bt in sayin that i think every group who preformed was amazin!..what they do isnt easy!.so congrats to Committed :) .. i only hope that SCS get to record an album too cuz i would definately buy it!!..LOVE them!!

  • joe_schmoe

I was actually surpised street corner symphony came in second. i thought committed was the best, backbeats second, and street corner third. i’m still not sure what anyone saw/heard with street corner.

yes, the show was way to overproduced and the contestants took way too much of a back seat to the guest stars.

    • asdf

BB definitely caters to the college acapella & Glee fans. BB does not get enough credit for the time and effort to include choreography and performance.

  • Gina

The Whiffinpoofs were ROBBED. They were easily top 3 with Committed and Groove for Thought. No I will not be watching next season unless the judges and bias change.

    • Bea

      And what about YOUR bias?

    • TJ. Church

The Whiffs have a contract for life @ the University, & didn’t even belong on the show.
