I’m pretty sure I read an interview with the Breaking Bad creator that said he didn’t mean for there to be ambiguity around Gale’s death, that Jesse did kill him. Definitely agree that Jack’s death should be #1.
My vote is for Linol Luther for smallville Season 7… Jonathan Kent Season 5… And Carter Hall aka Hawkman Season 10… All of Smallville… They deserve a nod…
Seriously, the end of the tenth doctor was one of the most moving and heartbreaking episodes ever. I agree it’s not TECHNICALLY a death, but watching that, coupled with the behind the scenes extras of David Tennant’s final days on set had me sobbing like a little baby. It was tv at it’s best!
I agree.
And…. I miss him…
I agree as well. It was a sad, moving episode. I did like the Doctor going back for a last look at his former companions.
Another vote for Stahl on Sons of Anarchy. Ally Walker played a fabulous villain and she had a fantastic death scene.
Man, I cry even reading you writing about Jack’s death… THAT’s how sad it was
Will never not cry when watching it -same with the Sub tragedy, Juliet, Charlie, and soooo on-.
Best series ever, best characters, most hurtful deaths.
Jack Shepherd’s death was thematically and emotionally a perfect ending to his story, although I can’t even think of it without tears springing to my eyes.
Jack’s death seriously did not affect me whatsoever. I think I was already sitting there stunned by the horribleness of the ending so badly that I just didn’t care any more. Locke’s/Flocke’s death was better.
“Grumpster” fits you to a “T”
Sorry Darren, but you left the best deaths of all totally out of your list: the season finale of SPARTACUS: BLOOD AND SAND. Number one with no competition!
You are ABSOLUTLEY CORRECT.
Verbum! Veritas! Eheu Varro!
thanks for mentioning Children’s Hospital, that is one of my favorite comedies of the last year. Too bad Rob Corddry could not keep her alive with the healing power of laughter… Feeling fortunate now I actually saw the death of Fat Tony, that was one of only two simpsons eps I saw in the past year, sad… WOuld also agree with prior comment that Alt-Broyles from Fringe should be here, that was gruesome visually and emotionally.
Jack’s death scene was the most memorable in 2010. But Charlie’s death was the saddest ever, on any TV show.
yeah i liked Charlie.
Let’s agree to disagree here. I couldn’t stand Charlie and wasn’t too upset when he died.
Fat Tony’s death and replacement was pretty much a ripoff of Snowball’s death, only without the irony.
Really did tear up when Jack died on Lost but was seriously happy when Eddie Cicrians character bit the dust on C.S.I. miami he can’t act his way out of a paper bag
Was that this year? His character was pretty much done. It is good when they get rid of an annoying character permanently.
I had to look it up to make sure it happened in 2010, but I’m putting my vote in for Topher Brink in the final episode of Dollhouse. I found the character’s breakdown to be completely heartbreaking, and realizing he’d set up his own death to salvage some kind of redemption for himself was SO emotionally tragic.
I forgot about Topher! That was another really sad one. I cried a LOT.
Loved Topher but his death wasn’t as effective as Summer Glau’s Bennet. That death was devastating because of Topher’s reaction, however.
I agree with Jack’s death being #1, but Topher Brink’s death in Dollhouse was a close #2 for many of the same reasons. Both deaths were heartbreaking, and you just didn’t want it to happen. But it HAD to, and the characters both knew it, which made it just THAT much more poignant. I still tear up thinking about both scenes. Great, though very sad, moments.
Jack’s death scene totally had me weeping. AND after the Sayid & Sun/Jin death scene when Jack told Hurley and Kate they didn’t make it and he breaks down, that also had me bawling.
I know. I was only a little teary when the 3 of them died but when Jack, Kate, and Hurley,(especially Hurley) started crying, I lost it.
how about mason lockwood? damon ripped his heart out! did anyone else this year die like that?
I have to say that Elijah ripping out TWO hearts out of vampire mooks (not tortured & weak like Mason) kind of makes Damon’s look a bit more trite.
