How about bringing back the way the idol used to be used. After the votes. That really messes with people and makes them keep their mouth shut about finding it.
totally agree. A great idea!!!
That was so much more fun.
Yes! Hidden idol only AFTER the vote AND Final 2 (not 3).
The hidden idol is revealed after the vote, but before they are counted. “If anyone has the hidden immunity idol, now would be the time to play it…I’ll read the votes.”
Unless I am misunderstanding what you mean.
In the first season with HIIs (Cook Islands) they were allowed to play it AFTER the votes were read. Yul had one the whole time because no one wanted him to play it and risk being voted out. They all assumed he had it so no ever voted for him. Kind of boring. That’s why they changed it. It’s a bigger challenge to discern when and how to play it.
Miserably.
I’ll admit it – I used to laugh when Fabio would say how hard it was to play stupid … I thought he was charmingly stupid. Those thoughts were dispelled when I saw him complete those puzzles. I’ve come to think he’s just a very relaxed, laid back and goofy guy who’s completely comfortable with himself and doesn’t necessarily need to impress anyone. How refreshing. I was also really touched by his obvious love for his family. So glad he won – it was totally unexpected, which makes it kind of fun. I liked Holly, but think they were smart to vote her out – I think she may have actually played a better game than the other three!
I’m not so sure about Redemption Island, as I hated Exile Island – but will keep an open mind until we see how it plays out. However, as someone else posted, no way do we want Probst voted off – far easier to vote Redemption Island off and get on with it.
How can you hate me? I was a brilliant addition to the game and should be a permanent factor!
RE: New rule that quitters MAY be kept off the jury from now on?
Translation: If a player’s narcistic behavior keeps viewers watching, we will find a place for you on the jury.
You might be right. But maybe this gives the producers the power they need to get back to a final 2. Early this season, in his blog, Jeff said that people quitting could mess up the episodes, so they needed to start with more people and go t a final 3 instead of a final 2. I don’t agree with that logic, but maybe now that the producers can CHOOSE whether or not a quitter goes to the jury will allow them to go back to a Final 2 and restore the game to its original structure. Damn, I hope so.
Unfortunately, I think Brandt is right on the money. Hopefully, they said that to keep their options open, but wouldn’t ever put a quitter on the jury.
I love Survivor. But why do they continuously shortchange die-hard fans during the reunion shows?
It would seem like the most obvious thing to show us the votes. Why would Jeff not tell us who voted for Chase and who voted for Fabio? This bugged me for the whole reunion show so much that I couldn’t enjoy it.
Also, I would like to know why Jane decided to vote for Chase in the end (if it’s true)? And why Holly was not able to forgive Chase? I really would have liked to hear the motivations for the final vote.
And why did Chase vote out Holly? There was no mention of it happening on the episode so obviously the fans would like to know what happened there?
Plus who would have voted for Holly it if had been Holly, Chase, and Fabio at the end.
Agreed Jennifer. I would have liked to hear how everyone voted and why. (Can’t believe Jane for Chase or HOlly for Fabio?!) Also, we didn’t need Boston Rob or Terry Bradshaw- spend the time on this season’s contestants. A few Survivors did not get a chance to speak at all.
Actually, Marty had a much bigger impact on the game and should have spoken more than about why he and Jane didn’t get along.
This was one of the worst reunion shows ever. Tell me WHY: Terry Bradshaw, Boston Rob, Mama NaOnka, Chase singng? We really don’t care – we want tio hear only from the Survivors, and why the jury voted the way they did is always an interesting subject.
I also have to say that I was incredulous and rather disgusted by the bile that spewed from Dan after he was voted off. This man did NOTHING all season except get carried along by others! He had no strategy, he contributed nothing to camp and he couldn’t finish a challebge on the few occasions he actually competed. What gall, what hubris! He couldn’t even figure out how many votes were needed for that night’s TC, which automatically should have spelled his demise. One of the most useless contestants ever!
I agree. Jeff used to do that 1st thing every reunion. Have people raise hands to see who voted for whom and also who would’ve won with a different final 2 or 3. This season we had to waste time with Terry Bradshaw and Chase singing and didn’t even hear from all the players.
At the reunion show, 4 people weren’t even acknowledged. Too much time spent in the audience. Who cares although it was nice seeing a picture of the baby. Would like to hear more stories about being out in the jungle. I used to love that show you filmed years ago where you asked contestants what changed their lives. I think it was an hour long show as well a week after Survivor ended. It would answer so many questions that aren’t doable in the reunion show. Found that hour totally unsatisfying last night.
Survivor season 22: i don’t think that 1 challenge per episode can make a good show. i could not care less about the redemption duels.
Way to go Fabio! There is a place for honesty, thank god.
Thanks for another great season! So happy Fabio won! I am thinking he may be the forces, energy or whatever he called in the jungle…it looked like his coins were staying by sheer willpower (or whatever)! love the show! Happy Holidays all!
*right about the forces* typo!
Parvati is that best person to have played the show. Hands down. I think Jeff P would agree.
Parvati, wouldn’t do as well with a bag over her head. Her looks count as much or more than her strategy. Or rather, her looks are a great part of her strategy. I can’t believe how many guys just fawn over her as she chops their head off.
There are 2 or 3 better looking girls every season than Parv. Give her credit for her brains.
How many seasons have they kicked someone out first and you had NO clue as to what character that person has, how they play the game or even what their name was. One plus with the new twist is finally after all these years the first person kicked out at least has a chance to come back in the game. If they rock as a player then they’ll continue to win each week on RI and that will make them a threat when they come back cuz they’ve still been ‘playing’ (limited food and contests to win) and no-one really knows who they are still and what they can actually do. On the neg. side it could be the biggest d-bag that no-one wants to hear another word from that continue’s to be ‘featured’ on RI each week and then comes back to annoy everyone. The new rule could go either way
Good comments. Yes, it has the potential to create an interesting back side to the game. I like everything but the name: “Redemption Island.” It’s not a disaster like “Medalion of Power” which was a true tragedy, but it’s not great like “Exile Island” either.
So how many duels does the exile have to win to make itback? How many exiles can make it back. Would you delibertely send a strong player to keep an enemy from coming back? I can see peeps like Sash telling peeps that he hopes to see them again and it was a strategic knife in the back to keep x from returning
So happy to see Fabio win it all. I figured out a number of tribal councils ago, when he gave a very succint defintion of something that everyone was arguing about, that he was a lot smarter than anyone gave him credit for. Additionally, his mom mentioned his intelligence during the family reward challenge. The icing on the cake was winning the puzzle challenges. That is hard to do with little sleep or food, especially when you have been there that long. While he may seem out there to some, he, after all is only 21, and his is artsy for sure. The brains were kept under wrap till he had to bring them to the surface. He played this game strategically as good as anyone. Kudos for an exciting finish!
That’s exactly what I was thinking too. I think he’s got a different kind of smarts!
I’m with you. I really liked a few episodes when Fabio started to talk about “being cool.” He showed that he was a thinking player. Unlike Sash, who saw himself as a mastermind but succeeded only in making people hate him, Fabio created zero drama.
Jeff- Thank you for your awesome blogs each week. It sure does make watching the show, even better, by knowing that you will have some great insights on EW the next day. Look forward to it every week! It’s so interesting to get a different perspective. Thank you for taking the time to blog. Great hosting job last night (even live you are so calm and cool). Loved how you handled Shannon last night: calm and cool, but with authority. Hope your time on TV lasts for many, many more years. Thanks Again! Can’t wait for Survivor in February!
What a “D-Bag” Shannon is. I could not understand what Shannon and Sash were saying to each other for Jeff to say alright guys that’s enough. Also I really don’t like when the jury members go off on the final three. It’s a game! The game is outlast, outwit and outplay. The way Dan went off on them was crazy. Dan DID NOT DO ANYTHING his entire time there! No right to be upset, he was lucky to get that far. Their comments are absolutely absurd. I was surprised by Jane’s comments to Sash. Rat in the sewer? Come on… And Marty’s comment about how dumb Chase was? Really? He can’t be too dumb if he went to the final because obviously he outwit Marty. Wake up people it’s Survivor and I really wish the final three will say something next time someone call them a back stabbing liar! It’s a game!
You make excellent points, however I have to admit I think it’s really entertaining when jury members go off.
I agree. Bottom line is everyone wants that million dollars, everyone thinks they deserve it more than the next player and the closer they get to the end the more bitter they are if they don’t make it. That’s why I wish Jeff or the producers would talk to the jury before the end and ask them to put aside their emotions and consider how effectively the remaining players played the game. Very few winners have been leaders from start to finish so it’s clear there’s gonna be lies, doublecrosses and blindsides. If I ask you, like Fabio did, were you gonna vote me off and you said yes, I know you think I’m a threat to your chance at the money. That makes you a threat to my chance too, so why wouldn’t I vote you off and why be mad at me once I did? That’s the object of the game. I just don’t understand it.
nah….emotions are the best part of the game. It’s ultimately a social game.
And that’s why it’s flawed, it’s too focused on who’s pretty, who’s nice, who’s a good person. That makes the game more about perception and morals than about strategy, manuevering and wits. I’m sorry but I prefer that over just being a nice person. I can overlook someone being a bit of a jerk (up to a point of course) if they play a good strategic game and make successful moves. The first winner put it best, consider how he played the game according to stated rules.
Wow there are lots of Kevins that post here lol. I understand why people get mad..wouldn’t you be mad if someone stole a million dollars from you, and then you have to turn around and vote for which person you want to give it to? I’m sure I would be. It’s hard to tell how the contestants feel unless you’re lucky enough to get on the show. I love when the jury grills the finalists. It makes for some fun television!
To Kevin W,
That’s what I’m talking about and btw, no one “stole” the money from anyone. No one if favored over the next person for the million dollars except in terms of popularity. Being mad is understandable but ultimately being a jurist means you got outwitted, outplayed and outlasted by someone. Once again, that’s the object of the game, you might get fooled by someone who’s trying to win the money just like you are.
Nobody stole money from anyone else, but I meant that the contestants probably view it that way. It has to be hard to get your torch snuffed when you’re so close to winning the money. I’ve never played a game with stakes that high, so I can only imagine what the contestants are feeling, but I assume I would feel that way. If only I could get the chance some day!!!
Rodcrusoe, you need to smarten up. Producers don’t try to REMOVE drama from a TV show. Fights are fun. Pretty people are fun. DUH????
Duh right back atcha. I want fights, I don’t want sore losers voting against good players out of spite because they got outwitted. Nothing wrong with pretty people either if they’re good at the game, i.e. Parvati. If you read these blogs you’ll see plenty of evidence that people just swoon over players who’re little more than eye candy. You prefer one thing and you’re entitled, I prefer to see people who can play AND look pretty. To each his own.
Who voted for who in the finale? Did I miss this?
Is this Purple Kelly asking? I could see her being confused and not knowing
(What a worthless contestant she was!)
Would have been a nice gesture to have taken 10 seconds to say all survivor momentoes were onsale at ebay for charity.
