YouTube released its list of the most-watched videos of the year, and unsurprisingly, Antoine Dodson and The Gregory Brothers’ “Bed Intruder Song” was number one, with over 47 million views and more than 14 million additional views for the iTunes version, plus dozens of reinterpretations, covers, and spoofs. Hide yo kids indeed.
Next up? Key of Awesome‘s Ke$ha parody, with more than 51 million views, and the adorable Greyson Chance, whose talent show performance of “Paparazzi” snagged 34 million views — and earned him a record deal. Awwww. Annoying Orange, which is so annoying I refuse to even link to it came in fourth, followed by the Old Spice ads.
Double Rainbow, OK Go’s “This Too Shall Pass” Rube Goldberg-style video, the trailer for Twilight: Eclipse, the little girl who wept over Justin Bieber, and Gymkhana Three rounded out the top 10.
Those videos, while popular, can’t hold a candle to the mainstream music videos, however. Justin Bieber’s “Baby” video has been watched more than 408 million times — seriously — and some of his other videos also cross the 100 million mark. Shakira’s “Waka Waka” was watched over 256 million times, and Rihanna and Eminem’s collaboration “Love the Way You Lie” wasn’t far behind, with 233 million views.
On the one hand, yes, major stars still profoundly dominate the view counts. But on the other, the Ke$ha parody video “Glitter Puke” has more views than the actual “TiK ToK” video. And that’s kind of amazing.
