Believe it or not, it’s been two full years since Reese Witherspoon has graced a movie screen, unless you count doing the voice of a nearly 50-foot-tall animated woman in Monsters vs. Aliens. In a candid interview, the actress — who stars opposite Paul Rudd and Owen Wilson in the upcoming romantic comedy How Do You Know — explains that her break from acting wasn’t anything she planned. “I just didn’t read anything I liked,” she says. “There are a lot of really, really, really big movies about robots and things — and there’s not a part for a 34-year-old woman in a robot movie.” In the meantime, Witherspoon has kept plenty busy raising her two kids, 11-year-old Ava and 7-year-old Deacon, and dating agent Jim Toth, to whom she’s rumored to be on the verge of getting engaged. “My mom always texts me, like, ‘Are you getting married?’ ” Witherspoon says, laughing. “I’m like, ‘Mom, come on! You would know if I was getting married.’ ” What Witherspoon clearly hasn’t been doing is dwelling on any of the personal turmoil in her past, including her divorce from actor Ryan Phillippe. “My favorite quote is from Martha Stewart: ‘I have a very short memory for painful things.’ And I do. I have one of those incredible memories where I just erase painful things….I truly believe you never lose in a relationship. You’ve always gained something.”

I love Reese. Great idea to put her on the cover. There’s not too many of her movies that I have not liked, and those that I haven’t were not her fault. I think she is beautiful, and I can’t wait to see her and Robert Pattinson and Christoph Waltz in Water For Elephants later this year.

i went to a catholic high school in tenn. that was the brother high school to her school..and we had our senior dance with their school…she was shy, very nice, and an incredible person. very gracious, even though she had already achieved a modicum of success as a high-school actress in local stuff. you’re ignorant. she’s a very good person, and her mother was a chaperone, and very nice, as well.

No one listen to Kim because my cousin’s boyfriend’s dog is best friends with Kim’s aunt’s cat and they totally told me that Kim steals candy from babies and kicks old ladies in the shins. I’ve not heard much good about TRON, except that it looks great visually. Storywise, I’ve heard it’s not much good. Of course, except for Bridges and the visuals, the first one was not all that spectacular either. Whatever floats people’s boats, though.

Great choice, EW. Reese is a wonderful actress and seems like a great role model for women her age (and those younger). It seems that some commenters are criticizing EW for their covers; but I think it’s wonderful that EW can put a young and rising star such as Taylor Swift on the cover one week, and a ‘coming-back’ star like Reese another week. Keep up the good work, EW. I bet the interview with Reese will be interesting.

Reese Witherspoon hasn’t really impressed me in anything since “Walk the Line” (which she was great in) and HDYK doesn’t look like anything great. I still think it’s a little weird that she jumped from marriage to a serious relationship right away and then to another serious relationship immediately after that one.
