Under-appreciated Entertainer of the Year: John Noble? Cat Deeley? Robyn? Round 2 is underway!

Let’s face it: Maybe 50 percent of those who vote in this latest round of EW’s Under-appreciated Entertainer of the Year will actually read this paragraph. And why would you? Looking at the photos of today’s intense matchups is quite enough to make your blood boil without me egging you on — but I’m going to do it anyway.

First up, in our TV race, we have John Noble facing off in this world and on The Other Side against Thomas Gibson, following the Criminal Minds actor’s narrow win over House‘s Robert Sean Leonard (54.5 percent against 45.5 percent). And in reality TV, Cat Deeley stands very likely to wipe the dance floor with broken-hearted Bachelorette castoff Chris Lambton after she won her tough round 1 match-up against The Harold Wheeler Ensemble of Dancing With the Stars by more than 50 percent. (Chris won his by a little more than 49 percent, but it was an easy win. He was up against Jersey Shore‘s Angelina — no one likes her.)

In the movies category, Red‘s Karl Urban will face off against The Town’s Rebecca Hall. And over in music, it’s a battle of the single-named females as Sia attempts to show Robyn not love, but defeat. Submit your votes after the jump.

Much as I love Pete “B!tchface” Campbell, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t happy Noble won this round. I have to ask, though…how did my beloved Michael Shannon and RSL lose?

    • Strepsi

John Noble for the past couple years has done far and away the best supporting acting job on any TV show. That good! He went from heartbreaking to crazy to brilliant to hilarious… sometimes in a single sentence.

      • Erin

Agreed. He can really do it all, from devastatingly dramatic to comic perfection. I think it’s criminal that he has never received recognition from the award committees. It’s just so wrong.

      • rebecca

        Couldn’t agree more!

      • KMG

Totally agree. I think it was a huge snub that he didn’t get an Emmy nod for the complex multi-layered performance that he brings to Walter. and this season, Anna Torv is blowing me away with the amazing range of emotion she can portray with just the slight change of facial expression or stature. Love to see BOTH of them get Emmy nods next year!

      • Tonya

Agree wholeheartedly! I was shocked he didn’t even get nominated for a best supporting Emmy. He deserved to win it, not just be nominated and he didn’t even make the list.

    • Mr. Holloway

I haven’t seen “Fringe” and was rooting for “B!tchface”…my spin is that his first-round loss means he really IS a more under-appreciated entertainer.

  • Courtney

Aww Chris! Since he couldn’t win Ali’s heart, I was really pulling for him to do well in this competition!

  • Zakry

what the hell? Robyn is beating Sia? Hey, look, I like Robyn and all, but Sia is clearly the greater talent!

    I give up.

    • Strepsi

Sia is great too, but Robyn has had a song on my top playlist from “Dancing on my own” through “Hang With Me” and now “Indestructible”. I gave in and bought both 2010 albums BODY TALK parts 1 and 2, and they are brilliant: 80s electro pop that is also totally today. She got my vote.

    • Erin

Agree with this also. I was actually listening to Sia’s latest album on my iphone today and it is fantastically awesome. I looked her up on Wikipedia just recently and geez the playlist has grown in regards to well known TV shows using her music. Though heck she should win if only for that Six Feet Under final montage. Seriously!

  • Nick T

    Robyn is terrible!

    • Konk

      Robyn is awesome!

      • name

        No, she’s terrible.

  • Jen

To all the Robyn haters, just listen to her album “Robyn” released in 2005. Not only is it critically acclaimed, but it truly is amazing. Do yourself a favour and listen to one of the best pop albums in recent memory.

  • Casey

Yay John Noble! Here’s hoping he takes this whole thing.

    • Kate

      I second that!

    • Ellen Klein

      He deserves it

Love that Thomas Gibson made it to the second round, he is amazing. Last season he did and incredible job, the great arc with the Reaper made me cry (a couple of times). He is an actor that can portray such different personalities (take Greg vs Hotch). Plus, I can´t deny it, he is extra hot!

    • JT

He’s really great in TALES OF THE CITY. So smarmy.

    • Erin

He did do an amazing job with that arc and deserves kudos but in comparison with Noble, nah Walter still wins out for me and I’ve actually watched more of Criminal Minds than Fringe.

  • AMF

    Cat Deeley For The WIN!

    • JT

Could we please have her host every award show and be done with it. She’s the best.

      • TB

        Agree 100%

  • JP

I am glad Karl Urban has gained enough popularity to even be acknowledged at all in something like this. He’s great and he deserves the kudos Star Trek and Red have gotten him.

    • Sara

Seriously. In a series with as many beautiful men as there were in LOTR, I was so smitten with Eomer, there are no words to describe the depth of my smit.

    • Maria

Yes, Karl Urban is amazing, he was great in Red, great in LOTR, great in Bourne Supremacy and the best thing in Star Trek! Is time he gets the recognition he deserves

  • Liza

Thomas Gibson and Cat Deeley all the way. Seriously, where’s Cat Deeley’s Emmy?

  • Meg

I am not understanding how the bracket matchups are working here . . . when you look at the original bracket, Karl Urban should be going up against the winner of the Kieran Culkan/Mark Strong matchup, not against Rebecca Hall. Similarly, John Noble should be going up against the winner of the Busy Phillips/Willie Garson bracket, not Thomas Gibson. Ditto on the other side of the bracket.
At the end of the day, it is not a big deal because it is essentially a meaningless entertainment game, but why set up a bracket when you don’t follow the matchups in the second round? I mean really, that is what the little lines around each box of names is for – to direct you to the next matchup.

  • Cleve

Cat Deeley is part of a huge show. Her being part of this is pretty unfair, she’s seen by a large audience and is going to definitely win this.

    • Lara

Yeah but she’s definitely underappreciated. She never even gets nominated for Emmy’s and she’s the BEST reality TV show host.

      • mary

As much as i love Cat Deeley, she is NOT the best reality TV host. That honor goes to Tom Bergeron. No one is as fast on his feet as Tom…and he has to deal with that moron Brook Burke….overcoming that alone makes him better that the lovely Cat.

  • sweetandliterate

JOHN NOBLE is the best of all of these and should win this whole ridiculous game as well as some Emmys. Kinda cool that both he and Karl Urban are in this round and played together in LOTR. Still, if I had to choose one or the other of these two, I’d have to go with Denethor over Eomer.

  • Coyote

In this context, “under way” is two words. Pet peeve.
