Image Credit: Kris Connor/Getty ImagesLooking at Betty White’s resumé, it would be hard to imagine that she still had some career dreams that were left unfulfilled… until yesterday. Apparently, a young Betty White once dreamed of becoming a forest ranger — a career not allowed for women during White’s youth. But yesterday, the Forest Service presented her with a badge and the rangers’ iconic Stetson hat in a ceremony that made Betty White an honorary forest ranger. Is there anything left on Betty White’s bucket list? (I hope so.)
White had a very outdoorsy youth, which is hard for me to picture, because when I imagine the actress in the great outdoors, the scene in which she dances around a campfire chanting in The Proposal is the only thing that comes to mind. Some of White’s first memories, though, include riding horses with her father in the High Sierra and camping in Yellowstone. After stressing the importance of preserving the wilderness, the actress told the Forest Service, “In my heart I’ve been a forest ranger all my life, but now I’m official.” And I wonder what her first official order of business will be? Apparently, she took a liking to Smokey the Bear — surely, that duo can do some great things to bring publicity to the parks department.
PopWatchers, are you excited by the actress’ new title? And what’s next for White?

Anybody else getting tired of Betty White?
Nope. That’s not possible.
She is America’s grandma.
WOW–and i thought it was just me. I hope I get as many “handouts” as she has when I reach her age of 128.
This is yet another example of many why Betty White deserves to be EW’s Entertainer of the Year for 2010. I watched her speech through the ABC News clip on-line and both laughed and cried. A true legend. She even made a spontaneous comedy routine with Smokey the Bear. How can you not deem her Entertainer of the Year?
thank you!! I too don’t understand why betty white has not been on any cover of EW this past year, when she has had the biggest year ever. plus, she’s just so darn cute holding that teddy bear.
I could watch Betty White every single day – Would never tire of her.
I can see Betty Smoke jumping before the fire season is over!
Wow! They gave you a badge? That’s really neat. I can see Betty White out door. Thanks for taking a stand for the animals.
( dogs, cats, etc. ).
I’m looking forward to the next season. Hot in Cleveland.
As great as I think she is, Betty is a bit overexposed. This has definetly been a huge year for this veteran of entertainment. She even has a calender for 2011! Still, she symbolizes an ease to getting old and that it is nothing for fear.
