Image Credit: Jean Baptiste Lacroix /WireImage.comExpect to see the saltier side of politics on HBO in the near future: In The Loop and The Thick of It mastermind Armando Iannucci has a new show there, and this time, it has nothing to do with 10 Downing Street. Veep is about the VP of the United States, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus is in talks for the role, her rep confirmed. If this winds up being even half as good as it sounds, we’re in for a treat.
Iannucci’s vision of the world of politics is brilliantly satirical in that it sometimes borders scarily close to realism. Also, so much cursing. So much! The Thick of It and In The Loop both featured an unending — yet imaginative and impressive! — stream of obscenities, particularly from the character Malcolm Tucker. I can’t emphasize this enough: this clip contains extremely NSFW language. If the f-bombs offend you, avoid:
I’m a big Julia Louis-Dreyfus fan, and she’s kind of the queen of funny delivery: Obviously, she does physical comedy well, but before I think of Elaine’s dancing skills, I think of the way she nailed “No, I mentioned the bisque.” Or “Oh, it be!” in this clip:
I’m imagining her genius combined with salty political chatter, and I’m about to die from happiness.
Let’s hear it, PopWatchers: Are you psyched for Veep? [The Wrap]

Meh . . . She was only funny because of Seinfeld and Larry David’s writing. Overrated.
You’re an impostor! Everyone knows Newman had a MAJOR crush on Elaine.
I can picture it now…
President: “She had man hands!”
VP: “Would you rather she had NO hands?” (PS- I still can’t believe “Man Hands” is now Pam on True Blood)
This is already my favorite show. I can’t wait for Julia to utter something as awesome as “difficult difficult lemon difficult.”
I LOVE her
I love everything about this.
She’s an oustanding comedic actress (could be the best working today) and she’s dead sexy. Would definitely love to see her in something edgy like this.
She’s one of the best comedy actresses ever. Prolly the best working right now, so I’m rooting for her. The material on Old Christine was just very underwhelming. She deserves better.
I’m extremely excited about this. I adore Julia, and I was hoping her next project would give her a chance to be dramatic. I think political satire is the perfect balance between comedy (which she is second-to-none in) and drama (which would be an interesting new route for her to take).
This has the makings of being my new favorite show, and a brilliant piece of topical writing.
With an Oscar nominated writer at the helm, and the glorious Julia starring … this will be so good!!
Finally they’re getting this hottie back on the air!
Will she finally be nudity?
Yayy! i can’t wait to see her new show, she rocks!
