Image Credit: Everett Collection Good news just in time for Halloween: Deadline reports the Michael Jackson classic hit “Thriller” has inspired a film that’s currently being shopped to various studios. Certainly we all remember the epic, groundbreaking video directed by John Landis from 1983: That red leather jacket! Yellow colored lenses! Awesome zombie pop and lock dance moves!
So how will this translate to a feature-length film? Kenny Ortega — who directed last year’s This is It — is reportedly already attached to direct and Jeremy Garelick (The Hangover) is set to write the screenplay. (Does this means the walking dead will go to Vegas and steal Mike Tyson’s tiger and marry Heather Graham?) And while the plot for the movie is still being kept under wraps, apparently it will have something to do with the “song’s folklore,” which, with lyrics like, “There ain’t no second chance against the thing with forty eyes, girl,” leaves the door wide open. Will the filmmakers extend Landis’ video vision with misty graveyards and or go in a completely different direction? And is there anyone in Hollywood who could hope to compare with the King of Pop’s dance moves? (Or, for that matter, Vincent Price’s creepy cackle? )
What do you think PopWatchers? Would you want to see a movie based on “Thriller” and who would you like to see in it?

I wouldn’t want to see a movie based on the Thriller. Just because it is meant to be a music video and an awesome one at that! No one can replace MJ!!!
Right on!!!!
What does this have to do with GLEE?
Maybe the Glee kids can star in the movie!!!
HELL NO!!! They better not put the glee cast in this!
Yes! An all-Glee Thriller movie! Maybe with a Twilight connection, too!
There were rumors that the superbowl episode of glee was going to have MJ music. EW has to stay on top of all stories just in case glee decides to do a cover version.
Yeah, I can see the Glee potential here. Next time let us know the Glee connection in the headline EW!
Chris Brown! Ne-Yo! It could be EPIC!!
Now thatz an idea!!
Geoffrey Rush could replicate the Vincent Price stuff–he already perfected that role in the remake of “House on Haunted Hill.”
I don’t want any remake of anything Michael Jackson has done because his artistry was close to perfection.
Nevertheless, if the remake has to be done, the only guy in the world (no pun intended) who would make this watchable is Chris Brown.
Ok I can see that
Well if they do, PLEASE don’t use a different cast! Meaning don’t change the original story!!!!
Leave it alone! Thriller is a classic. Nobody will ever match Michael’s artistry. So hollywood keep your damn filthy hands off this piece of perfection!
I don’t want anything remade of Michael’s. He was the master of his own material and it cannot be duplicated by anyone. I don’t care who is directing it or staring in it, it can never be replaced. I hate thinking of anyone remaking his music or remaking any of his videos. “This Is It” was a different type of movie showing Michael rehearsing for his concert; this was not a remake of anything. This is all for money, I wish people would stop trying to make money off Michael because it’s becoming an injustice to him. People are beginning to destroy his work. I sure don’t want to see anyone portraying Michael especially Chris Brown. There is and will be only one Michael Jackson, no one can ever replace him.
If Ortega is involved it will be ok. No one can destroy Jackson’s work and remember even though they aren’t as good as him, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and I know they mean to honor him.
I rather they not do this but it looks like they are going to so if they manage to ruin Thriller it will only look bad on them. So don’t worry MJ fans ppl will just look back at it and say it wasn’t as good as the orginal and should have been left alone. Just like the We are the World remake the original was better.
Why even bother? No one can recreate the magic Michael Jackson did, it would be degrading the Thriller video. Only Michael Jackson would be suitable to make a movie on it, and be the star in it, why, because, there’s a star, there’s a superstar, there’s a megastar, then you have Michael Jackson
I agree. No one will ever top him.
He was extraordinarily gifted.
But you know,if you’re a fan, you can’t get too much of Michael. Hopefully any remakes or spin-offs of his work will be done by someone who cares about Michael Jackson’s art.If it’s not, we fans won’t stand for it , and it won’t sell.
I wouldn’t even pay a dime to see it. Michael Jackson’s Thriller is the most looked upon music video of all time. It would be worthless just to make something that was truly iconic, into a piece of crud.
I LOVE U MICHAEL
Not at all sure he’d be interested in acting, but Wade Robson would be the BEST for this. Trust me. Check him out on YouTube. Seriously.
a story bassed on the plot of the song would be great! but just that, no dancing, no glee or chris brown. and no one plays as michael but just a good horror flick with maybe one of the two opening sceens from the music vid
