Andie might have reconciled with Blane at the prom, but we die-hard Pretty in Pink fans know that union wasn’t built to last. Sometime after graduation, Molly Ringwald’s Andie would have packed her bags for F.I.T. with her best bud Duckie (Jon Cryer) and left that “major appliance” Blane (Andrew McCarthy) in the uptight-richie dust. Or, as Cryer told us at EW’s Pretty in Pink reunion photo shoot recently, “Molly had a very good theory about that. She said, ‘Andie and Blane probably did not end up together, but Duckie and Andie ended up friends for life.’” That sounds about right. As does another Ringwald theory: “I’m sure that Duckie came out by now.”
Cryer and Ringwald were joined at the shoot by the marvelous Annie Potts, who played Trax manager/Andie’s surrogate big sister Iona. To find out what else the trio had to say about the beloved, John Hughes-penned ’80s classic, check out the video below. And don’t forget to pick up the new issue of Entertainment Weekly for reunions with the casts of Back to the Future, Alias, The Lord of the Rings, and more.

WRONG! They should’ve kept the original ending where Andie and Duckie were shown dancing together. I love Andrew McCarthy, but Blaine was just boring.
My dream ending scenario was that Andie has torrid fling with Blaine’s best bud- James Spader and then traipses off to college an never thinks of either Blaine or his buddy again. And Duckie- yeah I can totally see Duckie coming out and being Will to Andie’s Grace.
@AM, love that ending!
Blain=Bland
They recreated it in Some Kind Of Wonderful with Keith and Watts getting together. It was the ending John Hughes wanted for Pretty In Pink, but the suits were against it.
Yeah, if Hughes wasn’t so weird about his relationships with actors and had kept Anthony Michael Hall in the role. If this movie came out today, nobody would believe that Jon Cryer’s Duckie was straight!
Holy crap, Annie Potts looks better than Molly Ringwald.
Really? I thought Molly Ringwald looked hot! But Annie Potts looked pretty bangable too, so I take nothing away from her.
HEAR HEAR!
I agree Annie Potts looks better than Molly Ringwald. It appears that Molly Ringwald had her face done. She should sue her surgeon. That shows that monkeying with one’s face has its consequences.
The years have not been kind to Molly. Poor thing. Thanks EW. I wish i was still a subscriber but the Post Office refuses to cooperate by bringing me EW in a timely fashion.
me too, they are always days late!!
I think she looks great … you should be so lucky. case closed .
I don’t think it’s the years so much as the plastic surgery that hasn’t treated her well.
I think she just gave birth to twins so cut her some slack, taking care of two babies at her age is probably rough.
Great, now I will have If You Leave stuck in my head all day.
stacie, you suck!
I hadn’t even thought of “If you Leave” until you had to go and metion it. Thanks a lot! grrrr!
OMD! That song was so popular that year, 1986.
I think Molly looks amazing! They all do! I do wish they’d gotten Andrew McCarthy for the shoot, just for completeness’ sake.
And James Spader – awesome
Agreed! When I saw the Pretty in Pink reunion I was hoping they had everyone
I’m sure Andrew McCarthy was WAAAAAAY too busy to make it to this reunion…
When I see Molly now, I just wonder what the heck happened to her eyes? They’re like, sewn open wide or something. It’s distracting.
I’m probably in the minority… But I liked Andie with Blaine. Ducky and Andie didn’t have that chemistry… I felt like it would have been more of a, “Hey, you love me alot, let’s go out, I’m sure I will one day…” thing.
They never shared a moment that would leave me wondering otherwise. (Vs. “Some Kind of Wonderful” when Eric and Mary had that hot kiss in the middle of the movie… But I don’t know their characters names… Whoops.)
Molly looks fantastic. Thank goodness for someone who knows how to age gracefully. Her years in Paris have taught her how to enter her 40s with style… and with some pretty fantastic arms.
Did you see her on Chow.com? Is it just me, or wouldn’t Molly make a great talk show host?
Hi Molly’s manager.
Zo is right; the plastic surgery to her face makes her look almost scary.
And no, I’m tired of women starting up daytime talk shows.
Molly needs to ditch the bangs, seriously.
Potts didn’t say much.
Hi Missy — I love these three, but was Andrew excluded from the shoot, and his absence not mentioned in your column?
These are my favorite lines of the movie! Loved that you mentioned them in your article.
Andie: You know you’re talking like that just because I’m going out with Blane
Duckie: His name is Blane? Oh! That’s a major appliance, that’s not a name!
Annie Potts looked FABULOUS. (Although one way you can tell when you’re showing too much cleavage is when everyone can see the hot pink part of your bra that goes UNDER your breasts.) Maybe Andrew McCarthy wasn’t there because he wasn’t in town. The Society of American Travel Writers just named him the 2010 Travel Journalist of the Year!
McCarthy won that? Duckie was robbed again!
Uh, no, Duckie would not have “come out”. He and Andy were supposed to be together! That’s the only thing about the movie I don’t like – her ending up with Blane.
I think Duckie and Andie belonged together as in romantically! They were perfect for each other. Stupid Blane.
“I’m off like a dirty shirt”
