'Blue Valentine' trailer: Oscar contenders Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams?

Blue Valentine, the film that EW’s Oscar expert Dave Karger has referred to as an “utterly devastating, completely believable marriage drama” that should earn stars Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams their second Oscar nominations, just received an NC-17 rating, but you’d never know it from the trailer below. I haven’t been this quickly sucked into a movie couple’s relationship since the (500) Days of Summer preview. It’s partly because Gosling and Williams are as likable as Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel, but also just because you can tell the characters are unique, fully developed, and capable of ripping your heart out because you were so instantly invested. Watch it below.

I have been dying to see this movie. Even though I haven’t seen it, it has been my sincere wish these two would get nominated. The NC 17 makes that a challenge. I’m sure the rating is ridiculous.

Don’t forget about Midnight Cowboy! Not only did it win Best Picture, but Jon Voight, Dustin Hoffman, and Sylvia Miles (AKA that realtor in Wall Street) all got nominated.

    Loved Ryan’s Tiny Tim impression…

I’m sure the acting in this movie are amazing, Ryan Gosling is one of my favorite actors, but if he wasn’t in it, I wouldn’t see it, as most wouldn’t. It’s another story about a couple told our of order, except its bleak, gritty, in a handheld shaky camera, ala Half Nelson. I’m sick of the lack of effort in screenwriters and we all jump to them even if they are good movies and have great acting, its still BORING and unoriginal.
