Colbert/The CWCast members from The Vampire Diaries joined executive producers Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec at New York Comic Con on Sunday and, naturally, a big chunk of their hour-long Q&A session focused on the show’s romantic webs that may just get a little more tangled by the end of season 2.
Right off the bat, Katerina Graham was asked whether her character, Bonnie, will find a love interest. “Everyone wants Bonnie to get some! There is a chance,” Graham told the cheering crowd. Plec immediately jumped into the conversation and offered this tease: “Bonnie is going to be getting interest from somebody that she already knows, and she will meet someone new who strikes her fancy.” This is big news! PopWatchers, who do you think is the character that we already know that develops — or acts on — an interest in Bonnie? Personally, I’d love to see a Damon/Bonnie romance go down on the show, and I’m curious to hear what you all think. (Remember, as Katherine told Stefan in the season premiere, hating someone sounds like the beginning of a love story, not the end of one.) Later in the panel discussion, Plec joked about Damon’s sex figure status and said, “I think by the time the series is over, Damon will have slept with every man, woman, and child.” I choose to believe that means that a Damon/Bonnie hookup is likely at some point in the series (hopefully sooner rather than later).
Of course, we can’t discuss romance on TVD without bringing up Elena and Stefan… and Damon. There’s lots of fan buzz calling Elena and Stefan soul mates, which is a term I don’t like to throw around lightly, or ever, really. Plec emphatically agreed that Stefan and Elena are soul mates, but was quick to point out that “we don’t know if they’re going to end up together yet” and note the tricky truth about love, “you don’t always end up with your soul mate.” Very heavy, but also kind of sad, and totally the reason why I won’t use “soul mates” myself. So does this mean that Damon and Elena could wind up together? In any case, Plec reminded us that right now, things are looking good for Stefan and Elena, comparing their special bite-me moment last episode to a “monogamy commitment.” “Their relationship, at that moment, has never been stronger,” Plec said. How long will that strength last? Would you rather see Elena with Stefan or with Damon?
More fun teaser tidbits from the panel:
• In the next couple of episodes, Bonnie and Elena will recapture their friendship. Witch Bonnie will be using her power for good, and will be a really good friend to Elena. “The intensity is measured by how much Elena is in trouble. She’s capable of anything to protect the people she loves,” Graham said.
• We may not have seen the end of Lexi, or of John Gilbert, for that matter.
• Katherine will likely not be in every episode moving forward — an attempt to keep up her mystique — but her back story will be explored throughout the season, and we will begin to find out where she’s been all these years. Williamson called her the “ultimate survivor,” and said that Elena will be learning some life lessons about survival from Katherine.
I’m not particularly interested in Bonnie with anyone. They’ve given me little reason to care about her. She’s expendable.
Kudos, however, to the girl who plays Caroline. It’s hard to transition from show’s biggest whiner to one of the more layered characters in the cast. Lovin’ her.
This show puts the other CW drivel to shame.
I have to disagree with you about Bonnie being expandable if it wasn’t for her the Salvatores will be screwed not to mention Elena..oh wait a second so would caroline(ring).
NO! Bonnie’s deceit and lie to Elena regarding the Gilbert device in the episide “Isobel” is what set the whole series of unfortunate events in place to begin with. Bonnie is the one at fault here. Caroline never would have been in the car accident to begin with and never would have needed a “daywalker” ring. Let’s keep the facts in order and neatly in place. Bonnie needs to deal with her own guilt and stop taking her issues out on Damon. He didn’t do anything, her lie did.
I totally agree with you Joey about Bonnie. If she hadn’t of done those spells the Salvadores, Elena, Caroline and most of mystic falls would be burning under Katherines rule.
Re:DeBY.. Bonnie said “Grams wouldn’t of done what Elena wanted, so neither could I.” Get your facts straight.. it was KATHERINE who killed Caroline. She didn’t die from the accident, because her and Damon saved her. ISOBEL and John, who set things into motion on the device. Not Bonnie. Emily and Grams kept that spell on there to save Mystic Falls.. Elena had no right to push her into taking it off. Bonnie doesn’t need to do anything, but she still protects Elena with heart and soul.
Damon DOES do everything. He attacked her for freaks sake, left her for dead. Let the vamps out of the tomb, killed her beloved Grams. Viciously abused Caroline for weeks. Let Katherine into her home, to wreck havoc. KILLED JEREMY. Are you kidding me? If I was Bonnie I’d have Incendia’ed him looong time ago.
Bonnie’s a b****. She is not a likeable character so while she may not be expendable, I’m sure a lot of people wish she were.
Not me.. she’s incrediably strong and heroic! She’s not anything like a b***h. But sure as hell, some hatefulfans are.
Yeah, I kind of liked Bonnie last year, but not so much anymore. I feel like she’s got two settings: angry/bitchy and concerned friend. It’s kind of getting on my nerves.
i agree with everything you said! thats exactly how i feel about bonnie and caroline. the actress who plays bonnie bugs me. like that eyebrow thing she does? stop trying to look so intense you just look weird.

this comment makes no sense. i would say the majority of tvd’s audience is made up of women; thus, obviously most of the comments are going to be from women. and singling bonnie out is not a woman thing (I don’t see anyone hating on elena, even though she is the object of affection for both stefan and damon), it’s rather an issue of bonnie being unlikeable.
Maybe YOU would say the audience is made up of women, but if you actually did your research you’d find that just as many men watch the show.
ITA! I really don’t like Bonnie b/c she’s been getting on my nerves. I totally cheered when Katharine knocked her off her high horse a couple of episodes ago. Caroline definitely is not the annoying girl I had pegged her to be.
And I don’t understand why it *would* be Bonnie that girls are hating on. It makes more sense to say that about Caroline, IMO.
I know most of the “shippers” don’t care because all they care about is IS’s blue eyes, but I’d much rather they not go the D/E route, ever. I actually like the relationship that Stefan and Damon are building much more than either of the “ships”, and I actually like Elena, which I rarely do with female leads. As they would most likely have to trash likable aspects of Stefan and/or Elena to get Damon/Elena together…no. If anything, I’d like to see Elena/Alaric end up together, even though there’s the whole he-was-married-to-her-vampire-mom thing that would make it kind of weird, lol, so it probably won’t happen.
You know, I really hate that shippers are automatically dismissed as lustful idiots. Just because you ship doesn’t mean you’re some mesmerized fool who only cares about looks. I mean, I ship, and I can appreciate all aspects of the show. (This isn’t really directed at you, TJ, it’s more of a general rant.) That said, I do NOT want a Damon/Bonnie hook up. I just don’t see it. Besides, she needs to get her sanctimonious a-s-s handed to her, or become remotely likable. If she does, I’d rather see her with Tyler.

Elena belongs with Stefan. Damon slept with Elena’s real mother and killed her brother. Why would you gravitate towards that? Elena needs to be the one to stake Katherine if they ever go that route because she can’t hang around forever.

Yeah! I’m not sure why Catherine Fuentes even brought this back up. It has been discussed over and over, poll after poll, it is a DEAD subject. NO Bonnie/Damon.
I loved the response Katerina received at the Comic Con–I think one leg of the Bonnie triangle will involve Jeremy, just based on Steven McQueen’s reaction & various scene pictures from upcoming TVD episodes. However, I’m all for a Bonnie/Damon love connection in the future.
Totally agreed! Bamon have this hot snarky chemistry that’s wickedly charged everytime they’re on screen.
Damon and Bonnie is the dream of my life, just too hot! But I doubt the show will go there soon, if ever, and there are many half-deranged people in this fandom who would resort to writing hate mail to Katerina Graham and poking at voodoo dolls if it happened. So, I’m down with whatever storyline happens with Bonnie, I just want to see MORE of her. I’ve missed her!!!!!
I would love to see Caroline hook up with one of the Salvatore brothers for a while. Stefan actually laughs around her…and as for her and Damon, I think they’d temporarily serve as nice distractions for one another. I mean, I wanna see Damon and Elena in together in the end, but for the meantime, I’m sick of watching him pant after her.
Damon and Caroline already did have sex…a loooong time ago. He treated her so badly so I really would not like to see them together again. I’d definitely like to see Stefan and Caroline. They have crazy chemistry and he isn’t all broody and serious around her. I wouldn’t mind Tyler and Caroline either.

When Damon came to Mystic Falls at the beginning of season one, he didn’t care if he destroyed the town and everyone in it. His goal was to get Katherine out of the tomb (grant it, she did not need to be saved) He used Caroline for sex, to feed and get him into the Lockwood Mansion so he could retrieve the pendant Emily entrusted him with 145 years before. Damon has found his humanity again. He actually cares and will do whatever is necessary to protect the people he cares about and the town he lives in.
Ugh. I will be so disgusted if Bonnie and Damon get together. I can’t think of a more repulsive pairing. I’d rather see Katherine and Jeremy over Damon and Bonnie. They HATE each other and not in the I-wanna-rip-your-clothes-off sexual tension hate…it’s just pure hate. She tried to kill him, FFS. Besides everyone knows Damon and Elena belong together.

Um No to Bonnie and Damon. Bonnie is just so unlikeable. Shes so bitchy and only does things for her friends after being talked in to it(pleaded with). Plus I hate the way she talks to Damon. If they are even gonna consider going the Bonnie/Damon route the writer are gonna have to make Bonnie make likable and as of right now she leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
I like Stefan and Elena, I do but I love Damon and Elena. Stefan/Elena are sweet in that first love way but Damon and Elena are fiery. There very layered, complex and sexy. I think by the end of the season Stefan/Elena won’t be as “strong”.
But one last thing: Just No to Damon and Bonnie!

Agreed. I was very happy last year when we had a chunk of sans Bonnie episodes.
I love Bonnie i can’t wait for her love interest…I am surprise on all the negative comments regarding her character. She has become this hard person because of all the people she knows dying around her…she is the only character that shows remorse when someone is killed…All the other characters just move on.
She’s just about the only one who actually sees Damon for what he is, and doesn’t immediately forgive him because he’s been “hurt” and just needs the love of a good woman to make him a good man….and I say that actually liking Damon as he is, a pretty bad guy capable of occasionally doing a good thing when it suits him. I like Bonnie, too. She’s gone through a lot trauma thanks to the Salvatore’s, and IMO her reactions are pretty justified.
This is my first season and I just got hooked, but I don’t undertand all the Bonnie hate. She does seem to be the only one who has enough sense not to look at the vampires through Twilightesque colored glasses. While it will not break my heart if they don’t get together, I think it will add a whole new dimension to the Kat/Elena/Damon/Stefan love square and keep things fresh into the next season.
