Idris Elba and Johnny Whitworth hop aboard 'Ghost Rider 2'

But according to The Hollywood Reporter, Elba’s next encounter in Marvel’s superhero universe — after next year’s Thor — will be in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, playing an “alcoholic warrior monk,” (which, in my opinion, is the awesome title of some hypothetical movie I’d actually pay to see). Johnny Whitworth (Gamer) is also reportedly aboard to play a crook who makes a deal with the devil. I still envision Elba as the breathing incarnation of Luke Cage, but for now, the bruising Brit will have to settle with that other rage-filled Cage, the Ghost Rider himself, Nicolas.

Does Elba’s involvement in Ghost Rider make you more or less hopeful that a Luke Cage movie is around the corner?

I said it before and I’ll say it again, a movie based on a Marvel comic book character starring Nicholas Cage will not be complete unless Nicholas Coppola meets the character that inspired his stage name, Luke Cage.

Maybe the casting notice is to conceal the fact that he really is playing Luke Cage.

You’re really way too fixated on this. What’s next – Cage HAS to be in the next “Superman” flick because he named his son “Kal EL”?

      • Michael Sacal

Argh, no. Cage is the wrong actor to play Superman.

  • foobeka

Actually, his first collaboration will be in next summer’s Thor, where he plays Heimdall!

      yes

Wow, I was under the impression this guy could act and he’s taking a sequel to a POS comic book adaption. I love the character Ghost Rider but the movie was a hot mess.

      I agree.

When I saw that the man who was Stringer Bell was going to be playing second fiddle to Nicolas Cage in the sequel to a craptastic movie, I just thought, “Ugh.”

Then again, maybe if they dump Mark Steven Johnson and get a good director, it may not be a total disaster. (I’m not optimistic, seeing as how Tim Story was brought back for FF2…maybe there’s some sort of discount if you hire the same crappy director twice.)

Mark Steven Johnson is not directing GR2. The CRANK directors are

Seriously. I love Idris Elba and Ghost Rider, but Nicholas Cage needs to have an intervention. The first movie was as horrible as Nic’s hair plugs.

      • Leslie

Agreed. Replace Nicholas Cage & maybe I would consider seeing the sequel.

Johnny Whitworth will always be A.J. to me. Just sayin.

“I don’t feel like I need to explain my art to your Warren”

He’ll always be AJ to me too!!!

      • Jay

        Who’s AJ?

      • mary q contrary

        You mean, “Who’s Warren?”

  • UGH

What a waste of talent for a sequel to a crappy adaptation.

  • devilsidkick

you super nerds are nuts the first ghost rider was awesome, great effects and story.

    • silverrose

total agreement. cant wait for the sequal

      • jon

agree with above, loved the GR movie, excited they are doing another one.

    • ani

sad when super nerds have better taste than you regular folk.

      that first movie SUCKED.

  • Brett

Eamonn Walker would be an outstanding Luke Cage.

  • caljo

I love Idris Elba but what is it all of a sudden if your in one comic book movie you have to be in all of them. We keep getting the same actors over and over . Oh and Quentin Jackson should be Luke Cage.

  • therealeverton

As long as they don’t make Cage have that ridiculous hair and the writers and directors of movie 1 remain as far away as possible then there’s every hope movie 2 will be much better than movie 1. Adams Family values, Hellboy II (Not that Hellboy was awfull like those were)Star Tek II, there’s plenty of examplesa of films that were not so great but had the bones of good ideas, of good characters that went on to have better sequels. (Again Hellboy was not a bad film but Hellboy II was a class apart.

The powers that be in Hollywod have chosen a director for their next Superman movie: Geek icon (and bankable mastermind) Zack Snyder .

It’s almost enough to make us excited that Warner Bros. is planning a reboot and not a sequel. Hey, $200 million and Brandon Routh ’s credible Christopher Reeve

impersonation wasn’t enough for Superman Returns . Snyder (who made 300 and

Watchmen ) beat out the likes of Darren Aronofsky , Ben Affleck , Matt Reeves and Tony Scott

to helm the Christopher Nolan -produced effort, which will be fast-tracked to start production next year. That’s because the studio may lose the copyright to the character if they don’t make it by 2011, the Hollywood Reporter says. They also report that this version will bring back General Zod, thanks to the David Goyer script in the works. That’s cool and all, but there’s nothing that Goyer can write that will top Terence Stamp shouting “ KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!” in Richard Donner ’s Superman II .

Ghost Rider rocks and I better believe Idris Elba and Nicholas Cage can get it on. I can’t wait for the sequel to “Ghost Rider” next year.

i’m surprised & not surprised that there will be a GR2, marvel has a built in fanbase & people will go see it regardless.the first 1 was mediocre @ best.cage’s acting was cocaine induced, but i digrest.i don’t elba will be cage…he has a better chance a playing black panther.there is only 1 choice for Cage & that is Terry Crews!
