Mostly from excitement, sure, but also from exhaustion: It’s a roughly two minute barrage of you’d-better-not-blink shots designed to goose Potter-heads with glimpses of all the new (and returning) characters, and iconic sequences and moments, we’ve been practically feverish to see on screen. Ooo that’s Bill Nighy as new Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour and wait now Voldemort’s peering into Dumbledore’s tomb and oh hey there’s the gravesite of Harry’s parents and eek it’s Prof. Snape by Voldemort’s side and hang on Imelda Staunton’s back as the diabolically pink Dolores Umbridge and whoa Harry, Ron and Hermione barely missed that double-decker bus in central London and…you get the idea. Check out the jam-packed trailer for yourself:
We also get all-too-brief peeks at the seven Harry Potters; the wedding of Ron’s brother Bill to Fleur Delacour; the Death Eaters’ assault on said wedding; the flight of the said seven Potters; the fight between Harry and Ron; Dobby!; Harry, Ron, and Hermione infiltrating the Ministry of Magic; and Luna Lovegood’s father Xenophilius (Rhys Ifans), despairing at the attack on his home. What we don’t really get is a semblance of the plot. Had you not read J.K. Rowling’s seventh Potter book, not only would the preceding litany of references make little sense to you, but you’d have no idea that the first part of the “EPIC FINALE” really concerns Harry, Ron, and Hermione covertly casting about England searching for Lord Voldemort’s missing Horcruxes. Or, for that matter, why the movie is even called “The Deathly Hallows“ — and what they have to do with that strange triangle-y symbol that flashes ’round the 0:39 mark.
Does that matter? Not a whit. I’m duly goosed, and if I wasn’t already twitching to see this film, I now am. How ’bout you, PopWatchers? Does this trailer do its job of setting up the first part of the final two Harry Potter movies? Or are you left wanting for something a bit more…coherent?

This seriously could not look any better. So excited!
I’m also incredibly excited to see this, but I’m SICK of 3D. I’m sure that it won’t be playing in 2D anywhere near me when it’s released, so I’ll have to deal with all that BS.
I love it, but I’ll wait for 2D. I hate 3D.
Im with you, Im so over all this 3D bs too. I will try to wait for 2D, gonna be tough though because I cant wait to see this movie!
I’m SO PUMPED for this movie!!!!!! This trailer is BRILLIANT!!! OMG!!!!! There’s so much I saw and want to talk about, but I’m still in SHOCK!!!!!
Loved it! Couldn’t wait before, can’t wait even more now! Hoping the next 57 days fly by!!
amazing!!!!!!!! November cannot come fast enough
I like that they’re showing a little more. It looks like a interesting mix of straight book adaptation and changes.
My word. That looks epic. I am so excited. All the best parts of the book just coming alive like that is amazing. The Seven Potters and the wedding at the Weasleys looks terrific. And was that Malfoys house that had the high hedges? It looked awesome, the whole thing did.
Just from the trailer ,I say it has the possibility to be the best Harry Potter movie yet.
This year has been shitty in the big movies department (INCEPTION excluded). I hope this scratches that itch.
The seven Potters scene made me laugh. Everything about it looks great. It was an epic trailer and it’s already trending on Twitter.
This looks amazing. They are going all out for for the finale. Cannot wait!
why is it still september? i want to see it now!
definately!!! CAN’T WAIT!!!
This movie is going to be EPIC!
Who cares that it has nothing to do with the actual plot? This trailer is clearly for fans of the books. I am so excited! The sight of Dobby makes me tear up a bit. They better do justice to the book (unlike that awful sixth movie) or there are going to be some highly disappointed fans out there.
I was just going to say that this trailer is definitely for the fans, not casual viewers. And I love it!
I think I might be in the minority but I liked the 6th movie. Well I like the way it was directed. I didn’t like that they left out a lot stuff (especially the funeral) but I did enjoy it. But anyways so excited for this movie! I may or may not cry during the scene when Ron leaves. And when Dobby dies. And when Hedwig dies. Also, I’m going to be kind of pissed when I see “to be continued” at the end of Part 1 because I’ll want to see Part 2 right then and there.
You are not alone. I pretty much agree on all points. I must say that I always cry when Ron comes back. When Harry and Ron hug in the middle of the forest after Ron saved Harry’s life. It kills me, it’s like this is what friendship is.
I liked the 6th movie, too, but I was completely fine with what was taken out. Personally, that scene with all of them raising their wands to the skies, that was way more emotional than any filmed funeral could ever have been.
Concerning the trailer, I am amazed they show a bit of pretty much everything that happens in Part 1 of the two. Wow!
Wow, you really wanted to ruin this for people who didn’t know the story didn’t you? How big of a jerk/idiot do you have to be to spoil this much information on the first page of a comments section?
Half-Blood Prince is actually one of my favorite Potter movies. Sure, they left some stuff out, and one part in particular that somewhat bothered me. But I try my best to judge movies separate from the books they are based on. It should be faithful to the book, but I believe some creative liberties may be taken. And Half-Blood Prince is an excellent movie and it is so beautifully made. And if I’m not mistake, even J.K. Rowling claimed it was her favorite in the series so far.
Yeah and the way I see it, if J.K. Rowling didn’t approve it then it wouldn’t be in the movie in the first place.
Agree completely.
It IS the least faithful… but it’s a brilliant MOVIE once you get past that issue.
It’s like a big budget New Wave movie. Easily my favorite of the series.
The 6th movie is my favorite too. I’m totally ok with what was taken out and/or changed. HBP was great in book form, but nothing really happened in the book and that doesn’t translate to screen well. Harry internalized so much.
I was the one who said I didn’t like the 6th movie. Here is why: They spent way to much time on the teenage angst (borrowing from Potter Puppet Pals) and not enough on the importance of horcruxes. They made Ginny a stupid fawning teenager instead of the strong-willed wonderful girl she is in the books. The kiss between Harry and Ginny in the book is one of my very favorite Potter moments and I thought they cheapened it in the movie.
Oh. My. God.
I was literally shaking with excitement.
Dobby! Oh, I seriously love this trailer. Didn’t think I could be even more excited about the movie that I already was, but yes, this does the trick. Thank you, Adam!
