Image Credit: Jon Furniss/WireImage.comFor days, the all-seeing blogosphere has been humming with speculation that Gemma Arterton (Prince of Persia, The Disappearance of Alice Creed) might be Ridley Scott’s choice for the heroine of his planned Alien prequel — a move that would add the British beauty to an Alien alumni directory that includes Sigourney Weaver and Winona Ryder. Then Arterton’s rep shut down the chatter, reportedly claiming there was “no truth” to the idea. So it’s all just another fact-free internet rumor, right?
Not so fast. When EW caught up with Arterton this morning at the Toronto Film Festival, where she’s promoting her quirky Stephen Frears-directed dramedy Tamara Drewe, she didn’t rule out the possibility.
“The honest truth is that Ridley Scott has approached me to meet with him about something in the next few weeks,” says Arterton, 24, who insists she doesn’t know which project might be on the table. “He saw Alice Creed and loved it.”
But if Alien is the subject at hand, Arterton isn’t sure which character she’d play — or even what species she might be. “I’d love to get buff. But maybe I’ll be playing an alien! I wouldn’t mind that, actually. I like dressing up. That’s why I became an actor in the first place.”
How about it, PopWatchers? Would you like to see Arterton in an Alien prequel? And if so, which team should she be on: human or alien?

maybe i haven’t seen enough of her movies, but i have yet to be impressed by her acting.
I don’t think she’s a good fit for this franchise either.
I agree, not a good fit at all even though I like her.
I feel shed be a good pick…Just needs to get rid of the annoying accent like she had in Clash Of The Titans & Prince of Persia.
That “annoying” accent is what she sounds like normally in real life. And personally, I love it
I know. I hated the sound of her voice too.
She’s a Cockney like Sir Michael Caine. That’s how people from London and The East of England speak. I don’t like to be given excuses to believe the rumour that all Yanks are ignorant of other cultures!!!
No she’s not- she is from Kent and has a Kent accent.
Kent is not in london
thanks
Not impressed by Arterton at all. When I first saw her in things like Quantam of Solace I thought she could have a future, but Clash of the Titans and Prince of Persia ruled that out. I couldnt watch all of Prince of Persia because of her.
She’s just picked one crappy film after the other – and there’s nothing charismatic about her turns in any of them. Seems only concerned with “making it” in Hollywood. But she has a beautiful face, so even if she never turns in an impressive performance, as far as Hollywood is concerned she already has made it.
I thought she was good in Tess of the d’Urbervilles.
Yes, she’s more of a dramatic actress.
Maybe he wants to cast her as Lish in ‘The Passage.’
Alien is quite possibly my favorite movie of all time. Its first sequel is a model of sequel-making. They should’ve stopped there, but they didn’t. And now they want to make a prequel, to strip away some of the aura of mystery that made the original so great. I’m sad.
Alien 3 the assembly cut, is very good. hardly anyone’s seen it. They should have stopped THERE. i mean, once ripley kills herself, it should have been the end.
People have said that Arterton was sensational in Alice Creed.
eh i could think of better people for the role
I just want to see her big guns so I can motorboat them.
Loved her in “Clash of the Titans”, I think she’d be perfect and I love her accent and she’s beautiful too~
i still am trying to recover from watching her pretend to be an indian princess. her voice is incredibly grating and, while she looked gorgeous in prince of persia, i actually think that it was all hair and makeup. and in terms of screen presence, sigourney weaver she is most certainly not.
Hollywood never casts awesome actresses anymore. They’re only concerned with skinny young women that could get deals with Revlon. I love beautiful women in my movies, but I don’t think it’s too much to ask that they actually have screen presence and talent.
Why mess with a good thing to start with? Oh! I forgot! $$$$!
Uh….who is she? I have no idea…if Ridley Scott wants her, then I trust his judgment.
