Image Credit: Paul Smith/Featureflash/Retna LtdNot since “the Rachel” has a haircut gotten as much attention as Justin Bieber’s shaggy ‘do, according to non-scientific data and opinion polls that exist only in my mind. In all seriousness, though, it’s hard to ignore all this talk about the cut’s poopularity (that was a typo, but I’m leaving it). And yesterday, a highly entertaining photo of NY1 anchor Pat Kiernan’s failed attempt to get the Bieber haircut made me ponder all the various hairstyles over the years that have had some degree of cultural impact — assuming we agree that cultural impact means we went to the salon with a picture in-hand, asked for it by name, and left the building wanting to cry.
I remember my most tragic celeb-inspired hair blunder was sometime around 2003, shortly after Mandy Moore starting rocking her short, dark brown style. Tip: Never walk into a beauty shop and tell the lady “I want this except make it a little longer.” THEY’LL NEVER GO “A LITTLE LONGER.” My friends still call the result my “little boy haircut.” Luckily, the driver’s license photo I was forced to take just days after getting the horrifying haircut has long been chopped in pieces and sent to hell, where it will become bffs with all pictures of the bowl cut my mom gave me when I was 4. These days, I stick to trying to copy every hair style I see on Pretty Little Liars.
Confession time, PopWatchers. Which celebrity haircuts have you attempted to emulate with tragic results? And if you had good results, keep them to yourself, you lucky worm. This is a place of mourning.
More overly personal confessions on Twitter. @EWSandraG

interesting, i tried to do that same haircut when meg ryan had it, circa, addicted to love. it’s the kind of cut you need to STYLE and my 18-year-old self didn’t do that. so i just had floppy, short hair. sad.
for my senior pictures, no less.
I dont really try to imitate celebs…however i did try to get the Rihanna bob at one point and it did not go as planned. Now Im pondering the Emma Watson pixie cut.
I have tried the platinum blond, slicked back hairstyle. Inspired by Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Unfortunatly it just looked silly and out of place on me. James Marsters I am not.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure only James Marsters could pull that off.
This is freaking brilliant. I’m so impressed!
No, seriously. I am actually impressed.
Sorry, but your comment made me laugh so hard. I honestly can’t see that working for anyone but James Marsters…and Billy Idol, of course. But Billy Idol didn’t make it look hot.
Oh yes he did!
I haven’t tried to imitate Celeb styles but I am having flashbacks of the episode of Friends where Pheobe gives Monica the hair cut and Monica wanted “Demi Moore” but Pheobe gave her the “Dudley Moore” look.
Does that count?
HA!!!!! I love that episode.
“But that’s how he wears it!”
Hahaha. Classic.
Monica: “I’m talking about DEMI Moore! The actRESS from Ghost and Indecent Proposal!”
Phoebe: “Oh she has great hair!”
Monica: “I KNOW!”
I somehow have successfully been rocking the “Gwyneth Paltrow in Iron Man” haircut for a while now, but I’ve definitely failed in the past. I asked for the Katie Holmes bob a few years ago but asked for it longer….I should’ve realized they never leave it longer!
I loved Rachel Leigh Cook’s hair from Josie and the Pussycats the movie. It looked good, until it started growing out. And on days when I couldn’t put tons of wax and hairspray in my hair, I looked like Sir Lancelot.
Never again, never again.
the only haircut i ever tried to copy was Jennifer Aniston, probably in 2002-2003.but i decided not to have my hair cut that way. I have my own special hairstyle!! i am original, no one else has my hair color(just b/c i am a natural blonde/brunette and i have some awesome hair color strands!!
barf.
lol

Sandra, I think your audience needs to see a picture of this hair cut.
Mine was Victoria Beckham in 06-07. Person cut my long hair into a bowl cut nothing like the picture. I cried and grew it out.
Seconded.
The Dorothy Hamil worked but the Pam Dawber did not. (PD back during Mork and Mindy with heavy bangs and sides turned back.) For those of you who remember this. Also the girl on the cover of Seventeen Magazine – August back to School in 1977. Layered mess was the result.
I sooooo wanted the Dorothy Hamill look, but I had curly hair. The stylist assured me that I looked exactly like Dorothy would if she had had curly hair.
I tried to get Mariska Hargitay’s sleek short cut circa 2003. The only problem is my hair is pretty curly, so it ended up looking like a DISASTER.
I copied Ellen Pompeo’s hair about a year or so ago. It worked pretty well, but her hairstyle is rather normal.
Her styler is kinda normal, but I still like it!
i hope you squinted your eyes in order to complete the look
Tara from the Mickey Mouse Club.
I stupidly tried Keanu Reeves’ buzz cut from Speed. It looked so slick and sleek. I thought I could pull it off. It just highlighted how small my head was compared to my massive body.
Barbra Streisand from “A Star is Born” back in the late ’70s. Frightening.
I accidentally ended up with that hairstyle thanks to a REALLY bad home perm. As if being the new girl in school isn’t hard enough!
