George Clooney assembling cast for 'Farragut North'

Mathew Imaging/

When George Clooney directs a film, it either ends up scoring six Oscar nominations (2005’s Good Night and Good Luck) or turning into a flop (2008’s Leatherheads). But you’ve got to credit the guy for assembling interesting casts. Now New York magazine’s Vulture blog is reporting that Clooney is set to cast Paul Giamatti, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Marisa Tomei, Evan Rachel Wood, and Chris Pine for his upcoming political drama Farragut North. (Clooney’s rep confirmed the news to EW.) Clooney himself is said to be taking a small role in the film as well.

This all raises two questions in my mind. 1) Is this the coolest cast of all time or what? And 2) Can you believe Hoffman and Giamatti have never worked together before?

Love Giamatti. Add in Hoffman and TOMEI…I’m there.

(Also, if this movie ends up starting out the same way “Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead” did, I’ll be mentally prepared this time.)

“Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead” was so intense what a piece of work.

Any movie with Philip Seymour attached, I’m there!
Also, I used to get off at the Farragut North metro stop every day for work! Any idea what this film is going to be about?

Me too! I still get off at Farragut West. I think we should all get to be extras. :)

This film is based on the play. I saw Chris Pine in it last year in L.A. He was excellent.

Too bad there is not a role for Meryl. She is great with Hoffmann, and she and Clooney got along great last year for the Wes Anderson film.

Im sold with Clooney’s name attached but adding Tomei, Hoffman, Giamatti, Rachel Wood, and Pine, now I can’t wait.

I saw the play with John Gallagher Jr., Chris Noth and Olivia Thrilby. They were all fantastic, kind of sad that they’re not going to be in the film but I will definitely be on the lookout for this one.

Glad Pine is going to be in it, as he should be. Also saw the play last year – good stuff. I’m sure if you google you’ll get some reviews which tell the plot. It was at the Geffen.

I’m so glad to see that Chris Pine is going to be cast. I heard he was fantastic in the stage version and I’d love to see him in it. I can hardly wait.

I liked the New York cast very much as well, I wonder if Clooney saw that production.

Definitely GREAT cast!!!But I don’t know if Chris Pine’s schedule will allow.

Chris Noth was awesome in this play! I’m sorry that he’s not doing the role he originated.

Hoffman and Giamatti hopefully have at least one classic scene where they go toe to toe. I’d love to see those guys in a remake of Glengarry Glen Ross.

  • Brett

Meh. Not impressed with Evan Rachel Wood. And NOT the coolest cast ever assembled.
