Billy Joel is game for more 'Glee'

billy-joel-gleeImage Credit: George Napolitano/FilmMagic.com; FoxOn last night’s Access Hollywood, Billy Joel confirmed what Ryan Murphy hinted to us last April: That he was would gladly release his music to Fox’s runaway hit, Glee — and in fact, already has. “I said, ‘Yeah, go ahead, use my stuff,” said Joel. “I was in a chorus when I was in high school, why not?” Don’t, however, expect to see him dancing through the halls of McKinley High on your TV anytime soon. Joel’s more of a behind-the-scenes kind of guy: “I’m just not a big TV actor type of guy. I’m a piano player,” he said.

Joel and Gleeks have already proven to be a winning combination — his signature song “Piano Man” was performed on the show last season by guest star Neil Patrick Harris, who earned an Emmy over the weekend for his work on the series.

So what Billy Joel songs are you most excited to hear on Glee, PopWatchers? I, for one, am pretty fired up for a little “We Didn’t Start the Fire.”

    You’re Only Human (Second Wind)!

    Such a fun song!

    • Stormy

“We Didn’t Start The Fire” perfect!

      • Blue Silver

It would be awesome if they used:

        My Life
        Just the Way you Are
        She’s Always A Woman
        Tell Her About It
        The Longest Time
        Still Rock ‘N Roll
        Uptown Girl

    • Daniel

Pressure. I’m sure there’s a plot point that that song would be great for.

      • Lori

JUST today I said to my son, now PRESSURE could easily be used in a plot for Glee! Also, River of Dreams, the STRANGER would be great! “we all have a face that we hide away forever and take it out and show ourselves when everyone is gone”…that could be a fabulous show!

  • Sam

i feel like we all should have realized he gave it to them when Schuester and Bryan Ryan sang Piano Man in Dream On…

  • Vicki

Scenes From an Italian Restaurant, Only the Good Die Young, I May Be Crazy, there are so many.

    • Rocky

I second Scenes from an Italian Restaurant. My absolute fave.

      • tommymommy

Scenes From an Italian Restaurant for sure–right on! I would even like to hear Entertainer.

    • Catherine

“Only the Good Die Young” is a great idea!

    • Mike

That would be “you may be right” lol. But yeah good song.

Seriously, all of his songs would be great. I’d just dedicate season 2 to Billy Joel and you’re good to go! (kidding of course…kinda)

  • Baddog

Kristen singing New York State of Mind (during the fantasy “white” version of the Wiz” episode!)

  • Julz

I’m watching the season on reruns right now so I don’t know what was already done but I’d love to hear Lullabye. Though speaking of Billys it would be awesome if they did Billy Idol.

    • Freddie

They did a version of Dancing With Myself (sung by Artie) and also used the same song as a track in the same episode.

      • Julz

I’d love to hear Eyes Without a Face or White Wedding.

    • steph

      gsh, i LOVE Lullabye.

    • Brett

Lullaby would be perfect for a group sing in harmony. Listen to the King’s Singers’ rendition for an example.

  • Ceballos

“Tell Her About It” should be a lock.

I could also see “For the Longest Time” and “Movin’ Out.”

    • Zoe

      Perfect suggestions! All three.

    • Wickeddoll

      What about “Uptown Girl”?

      • Ceballos

I love the song, and I really like another poster’s suggestion to maybe have Puck singing that to Quinn or something.

      • Karl

Excellent idea… Puck singing that ABOUT Quinn…

    • theBigE

For the Longest Time! We actually sang that in my high school chorus!

  • @Chaz

Troll!! If you don’t like it, don’t click and read it, moron!!

  • @Chaz2

Y’know, some of us are straight and we LOVE the Glee coverage.

  • Alia

If Ryan Murphy really feels the need to do another tribute episode, Billy Joel would be a good choice. I’d be happy to hear the Gleeks take on any of his songs. (My favorite is probably “For the Longest Time.”)

    • Dee

I think that song would be my top pick! All the boys singing it acapella, with solos for Artie and Puck. ;)

  • Brian

Honesty, Only the Good Die Young, and She’s Always a Woman

  • Heather

If they do “We Didn’t Start the Fire” it HAS to be set in History class — makes the most sense that way!

  • Adam

“And So It Goes” is a great choice for a break-up song….

    • Clayton

This. My favorite Billy Joel song

    • Katja

Oof, my favorite Billy Joel song as well. So simple but so beautiful.

    • v

      Perfect song.

    • S

      fave.

  • Fridge

Then don’t read the article! I can’t stand Lost or American Idol, but this site also covers both of those shows just as much as they do Glee. I do not, however go to the message boards and complain about it. Go take your Metamucil and stop being such a toll.

  • Eva LePelley

would love to hear uptown girl..maybe Puck singing it to Quinn or something like that..hmmm

  • Sam

i could grab my ipod and list off hundreds of billy joel songs that they should do, but the first song that came to my mind was goodnight saigon. also tell her about it would be great. and if they did lullabye i’d probably cry while watching it because whenever i listen to the song i almost cry
