'America's Got Talent' brings big drama on Wild Card night

Acrobats Michael Lipari and Ashleigh Dejon were back for Wild Card round of America’s Got Talent last night. The duo gave a fiery, intense performance to Rihanna’s “Rude Boy,” that also gave the audience and the judges a huge scare (those looks on Howie and Sharon’s faces!). Check it out below (performance begins at 1:40):

The studio fell silent, thinking that the unthinkable had suddenly happened, when — just kidding! — Michael and Ashleigh emerged from the depths of the stage for part two of their routine. Piers thought the stunt transformed the aerial act from “boring” to “magical.” Did their big drop stop your heart? Was it really the skill or drama that deserved the standing ovation?

Was the shock value alone enough to guarantee Michael Lipari and Ashleigh Dejon a spot in the semifinals? What other acts were you happy to see back last night?

I love kite boy. I’d rather watch him for an hour than a 10-year old singing opera.

The Kite boy is the BEST!

    • Don

How about having the girl sing while the boy is flying the kites?

  • Margie

The giveaway was the beat of the music continuing while the acrobats were hidden. Ithought Piers looked like he knew.

No kidding. That was some bad acting by all the judges. What they couldn’t tell from the heartbeat sounds?

I do not think that they were acting. The acrobats scared the crap out of me.

I was so bored with the whole night I turned it off right before this arial act came on! Looks like I missed the only one worth seeing. I did like the magician, but the children acts were a yawn for me. Will we EVER get to the finals?

  • BeBe

It wasn’t that good of a performance and it was still boring

I thought their performance was very intense, and very sexy. It was not my favorite act at Vegas…but they really improved.

The most amazing thing about the kite boy is that he had two kites instead of just one…which means, something tells me he can really only get better!

    However…let’s go Doogie Horner!!!!

What next? The return of acts that didn’t make it in the last several seasons? I feel like they’re prolonging the show as much as possible before the little lip-syncing robot girl wins.

  • Daddyb

You’re a real comedian. You should try out!

Liked kite boy and the fall of the aerial acrobats scared the crap out of me. It was clear that Sharon and Howie did not know what happened.

Howie was right about one thing – seeing 12 year olds do seductive dancing (even if it is the way the dance is intended to be done) is just creepy.

    • Jethrine

that was a real dumb-as* comment by howie – no Normal person was thinking that until he brought it up – normal people were just enjoying the kids’ dancing skills

I love Connor, kite boy. Voted for him. I hope he goes through.

AGT continues to drag each season on and on. How many acts are entering the semi-finals, somewhere near the 48 they cut down to get to this point. The competitions are never fair anyway, putting different kinds of acts together and then having to vote on only a handful to move on.

For example, how can you say the Kite Boy is better than the 10 year old Opera singer, how can one say one is better than the other. Most talent shows put the same or similar acts at the same time, at least the similarities make it easier to vote the best.

Putting all the singers on at the same time on the same night is what should happen so the voting public can put the best through on to the next round but we know this is not going to happen.

Either way it’s just my observation and it means nothing:

I will be happy if one of these go on to win the whole thing:
Hasbop, Kite Boy, the Duo Aerialists, the Wall Dancers, one of the Illusionists [because they are all great this season], but please, no more singers, there have been 3 singers who won this competition and we never hear anything about them.

you’re right – it’s just your observation and it means nothing

My wife wouldn’t let me watch another rerun of Glee, otherwise I would. That’s how boring and amateurish most of it was. The kid dancers were good, likewise the kite guy, the rest just so-so – or terrible.

  • David

Seeing a theme in the comments. A lot of people are tired of waiting fro the semifinals, so they are predisposed to hate any more acts. I saw three acts that deserved to be brought back. The fourth is up for grabs.

    • Jethro

Which 3 acts deserve to come back and which is the so-so?

    • Mary

I agree. My choices are Michael Grasso (magician), Michael and Ashleigh (aerial dancers), Connor (kite boy) and Harmonica Pierre are put through to the semi-finals.

  • Robert

YouTube show was much better than last night despite some decent performances.Regardless of the nature of their dance, Anna/Patryk are very talented for their age. No, they won’t win but deserve to go through, unlike 5 others. If America “gets it right”-they usually do – here are my predictions for top 4(in order):
    1) Michael/Ashleigh 2) Grasso 3) Anna/Patryk 4) Connor(kite)- considering his medical condition, this kid is very talented at what he does Good luck tonight

  • glenn

My choices are Michael & Ashleigh, Michael Grasso, Anna & Patryk and Connor Doran. Doogie Horner could be the dark horse.

  • David

The magician, the aerialists, and the kite flyer are all shoo-ins. I’m expecting one of the dance acts to take the fourth spot.
