Jason Reitman to re-team with Diablo Cody? How are we feeling about a 'Juno' reunion?

diablo-cody-jason-reitmanImage Credit: George Pimentel/WireImage.comOscar-nominated director Jason Reitman (Up in the Air) is in talks to direct a script penned by his Juno partner, Oscar-winner Diablo Cody. According to the Hollywood Reporter, willowy Oscar winner Charlize Theron is also in talks to star in the dark comedy, Young Adult, which reportedly centers around a 30-something, newly singly YA author who returns to her hometown Minneapolis and pines after her ex, now a married family man. (And for the love of…let the story actually allow that Theron’s character is beautiful. She need not always be mousified, even if she is playing a writer.)

Reitman and Cody have joined forces before, to memorable effect. The haters can snark over the zingy dialogue all they want. This moviegoer and adoptive parent thinks Juno was lovely and funny and surprising. And that scene of Jennifer Garner coming home to find a stunned Ellen Page and quaking Jason Bateman just up from the basement was a beaut. The YA team is looking to begin production mid-October.

Speaking of Jason Bateman, who makes my heart swell, he stopped by Cody’s Airstream trailer recently to have a little chat, including scoop on the Arrested Development movie. “Look at your f%#!ing notes cheater, go ahead.” Enjoy.

What do you think PopWatchers? Ready to see Theron in a comedy? Juno, love or hate? Who should play the ex-boyfriend in YA? (What about Colin Farell? Hey, I love the guy!)

Juno was just a bad, bad movie. Now that is a film that is overrated.

    • Scott P

      Exactly…

    • Bob

I so agree — I thought it was an overwritten mess. Jason should stick with Clooney, not Cody.

    • UGH

Agreed. Diablo Cody is uber overrated.

    • Brett

Oh, but according to Karen, the author of this article, you’re a “hater” who’s getting “snarky”.

  • Ceballos

More excited to see Reitman (probably one of the hottest directors working today) team up with Theron (one of the most beautiful women in the world, who has also shown that she can be a terrific actress, but who has dropped off the map in recent years).

  • Karate Pants

    It sounds delightfully different!
Please NOT Colin Farrell for the ex-bf! How about Jason Bateman?!? Ha, okay, maybe not. But I can dream.

    • Ceballos

That would be the “Hancock” reunion that no one asked for!

      • Karate Pants

Ah, I didn’t see that one – maybe that’s a good thing. I was only indulging my long-time crush on Jason Bateman.

      • Ceballos

        That IS a good thing.

I mentioned in my previous comment that Theron had fallen off the map over the last few years – that was because I had mentally blocked “Hancock” from my mind.

Given Juno was terrible, I’m not feeling too great about it..

I liked Juno but it’s really overrated. And the dialog, while sharp, was not as impressive as people made it out to be. People are more impressed that it was written by an ex-stripper (who never would have gotten any dollars out of me) and I think that people tend to give her more credit than she deserves. Nothing exciting about this news.

Unlike all the haters on here, I liked Juno and I think the new movie sounds good too. More Jason Reitman is always a good thing!

thank jeebus, someone who didn’t hate Juno on here; excited to see what these two come up with as well.

Just have to point out how stupid it is to label everyone who disagrees with you a “hater”. The laziest modern term there is. Maybe people just have different opinions than you? Shocking I know…

    • Brent

haha let them be. It is “cool” to call Juno overrated. I genuinely liked the movie, too. I like most of what Diablo Cody writes (Jennifer’s Body excluded). I love “United States of Tara.”

      • Brett

I’ve found most of Diablo Cody’s writing to be uninteresting, and I’ve never understood what why she deserved all the hyperbole.

      • M&M

It’s not “cool.” It’s just a fact. It captured a zeitgeist, but it hasn’t aged well at all. And it’s only been a few years since it stunk up movie screens — I hated it then, and thanks to you, Brent, I hate it more now.

      • Brent

Calling something a fact doesn’t make it a fact. (Especially when this is completely and one hundred percent based on opinion!) I won’t argue with you about the merits of the movie. I liked it; you didn’t like it. (That is an example of a fact.)

  • Emoney

I did not like Juno very much, but I’m willing to give most things a chance. If Cody would stop trying quite so hard with the super-cute dialogue, it could be fine. For example, in Jennifer’s Body (which wasn’t so terrible, really), there’s a line about tampons and “you were plugging.” Seriously, Diablo Cody? Nobody, nobody, nobody talks like that. Not cool hipsters, not kids, nobody.

    • Ben

      My thoughts exactly. Well put.

  • Gregory

Okay, I’ll say it…I loved “Juno” and I felt the script was amazing. I worried about Cody’s career path after “Jennifer’s Body”. Reteaming with Reitman seems a smart move.

    • lisa

She is not re-teaming, Reitman also produced Jennifer’s Body too, not like she’s going back, she never left

  • Nick

Diablo is the shiz. Love Red Band Trailer. Love her. YES to anything she does ever.

  • kc

Reitman-Theron!!!! wow i can’t wait to watch this!

  • Stace Sunshine

Love the movie and AdultDatingLovers was great
