The new 'TRON: Legacy' trailer is epic!

Geeks, rejoice! Disney unveiled the trailer for their hotly anticipated reboot/sequel TRON: Legacy at Comic-Con today, and let me tell you, it looks awesome. Not only do we get to see more of the light saber-esque motorcycle trails, glow-in-the-dark techno Frisbees, and sleek grid-filled sets, but the clip sets up the central relationship between father and son that TRON: Legacy will explore. I’ve been watching the dazzling trailer over and over again, and while I could keep having a nerd overload at my desk for another hour, I’d rather you get the chance to see it, too:

Awesome, right? It reminds me of last year’s perfectly cut Star Trek trailer. It’s got everything: the slow build, the dramatic character set-up, the focus on relationship, and then WHOA! WHAT? HOLY CRAP! effects sequences and fight scenes. Between the upside-down battle that had shades of Inception, the pixel-producing impaling, Jeff Bridges’ worried composure, and the intriguing lookalike father/villain, the clip’s got enough to keep fanboys salivating for days, and, probably, months. I was already sold on TRON: Legacy after the stylish teaser trailer, but it’s nice to see that this blockbuster is trying to be more than the typical, dumb-and-proud-of-it video game movie.

Disney also showed about eight minutes of footage to the crowds at Comic-Con, who greeted everything they saw with huge enthusiasm, according to EW’s own Josh Rottenberg. But what about you, PopWatchers? Are you just as enthusiastic? Do you think TRON: Legacy looks like an adventure you want to go on?

    hell yeah!

This looks great! Can’t wait for December. I just hope that it’s PG-13. I don’t want it turning into one of those cheesy, live-action PG Disney films.

    • Quirky

You want blood and swearing in a Tron movie?

      • vinny

Not blood and swearing. I’m just saying I hope Disney decides to put in great storytelling and just enough (bloodless) action to warrant a PG-13 rating. They’ve given other Disney films PG-13 ratings before. I don’t want it turning into another childish PG Disney film like The Sorceror’s Apprentice and Old Dogs.

I want to go to there!

  • Jose

Wow, I might even see it in 3D.

  • SLDB

Well. Once I stopped grinning and making inarticulate, gutteral happy noises, I got excited all over again for this movie. Wheeee!

    RRRRRRROOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAARRRRR!!!

The “intriguing lookalike father/villain” is Clu 2, a copy of the original Clu from the first movie (that got derezzed at the beginning of the movie). He was Flynn’s hacker program. And if he *is* the villain of the film, well that’s just awesome.

    • Henry

And I thought Michael Sheen was the villain. Daft Punk is doing the score. How awesome is that?

  • DavidJ

Totally agreed. Love how dark and epic it all looks so far (it almost has the feel of a Dark Knight, in fact).

I’m not completely sold on the young CGI Jeff Bridges though. He looks solidly “there” in the scene, but his mouth movements don’t look right at all. Hopefully the fx guys will have enough time to fix that.

I do not have the words…..

  • Nikki

    Not gonna lie…It looks great!

  • erewhile

Epic? It looks totally lame. Don’t believe all these commenters. They are public relations summer interns trying to cover up how bad the trailer is!

    • f11

Eff off. The trailer looks amazing and if you don’t like too bad so effing sad for you.

  • Ceballos

There are a lot of fancy words I could use to describe this trailer…but it just looks COOL. (Even if young Jeff Bridges/ Clu 2 is seriously creeping the hell out of me.)

  • lorraine

I’ve never seen Tron but Tron:Legacy looks awesome!

  • JC

Now I wanna go play Kingdom hearts

    • Irish

I did the same thing after the first trailer came out. Had to pop in my KH2.

  • Christian

Leaves me stone cold. It’s all just CGI crap and the actors look incredibly stiff – it’s almost as if they’re animated as well.

    • lindsay

um, the actors are stiff because almost all of them are playing computer programs. and while i think that most movies need to tone down cgi, tron is definitely not one of them. the first film is a classic because of what it represented in terms of special effects at that time; of course any proper sequel is going to make that a priority. plus, it’s a virtual world setting.

    • wtf

dude please know a little something about Tron before posting such asinine comments… end of line…

      • egoo

        “end of line”…OMfreekinG…that is epic!! 2 points…FTW!!!
