Let me not say too much about the following preview clip from Project Runway‘s eighth season premiere (July 29, 9 p.m. ET, Lifetime): Still, on a scale of one to “it’s a mother******* walkoff,” I’d put Tim and Heidi’s special announcement at around a five. Some of these contestants are bound to end up in the emotional fetal position. But honestly, isn’t that how we like our designers — panicked, exhausted, and sewing till their fingers bleed? Check out the preview clip after the jump — you’ll only see it here on EW.com — and then head down to the comments and rate your excitement level for the new Runway season.

Exciting…however, why do I have to watch a commercial before I can watch what is basically a commercial? Crazy.
I so agree
You like getting EW.com for free? That’s why you have to watch a commercial.
Do you work for EW? I don’t know about you, but I actually purchase a subscription.
Ita, I also purchase a subscription, and get to enjoy all the printed goodies they have to give. That does NOT, however, give either of us special status. We are not entitled to special benefits on the site just because we subscribe. Ads are everywhere you go these days. It’s time to get used to it.
I also agree. I am tired of the pre-commercial commercials.
Ita, you pay to view EW online? You are being robbed. I get it for free also.
No, I don’t work for EW (or anyone affiliated with EW) and yes, I also have a subscription.
Websites cost money. It won’t kill you to watch a commercial.
If the pre-commercial is over 10 seconds I’m outta there. The 30 second clips are astounding to me that anyone would actually watch a 30 secong commercial just to see a preview clip.
I’m excited about the new season but I don’t see how this twist is a big deal. Someone always gets eliminated in the first episode anyways.
Totally agree! That was exactly my reaction…eh
Exactly.
All of their reactions were so repetitive and fake too. Why would they be shocked, this doesn’t mean anything different. I guess this is how the show will be stretched to an hour and a half this season.
I agree… isn’t that basically what’s happening every week? You are auditioning for your spot at Bryant Park
How is this really any different than any first challenge where someone goes home? The 17 contestants already made it on TV, so they can’t really say they haven’t made it on Project Runway yet.
You’re so right — this just means there will be two challenges in the premiere instead of one. A challenge in which the 17 of them have to make an outfit, have a runway show, and then face elimination? What a shocking twist!
I agree! I was watching this the whole time thinking…uhh, so!? Every challenge should seem like auditioning…auditioning to be the winner!
i don’t get it….of course one of them are going home. what’s the big surprise? About 14 of them are gonna go home sooner or later!
Anyone know if Project Runway airs on Hulu or something the next day or later in the week because I don’t think my cable provider actually carries the Lifetime channel.
I think you can catch it a week later on Lifetime.com. I don’t think they air it online right after the show though. Lifetime airs a new episode like three times the night of, so I bet they feel like they don’t have to post it online.
last series they put each week’s episode on mylifetime.com — i think it was available on the saturday after its original airdate.
Oh I hope they do that again then. That would be awesome! Thanks so much marktj!!
They said 1 or MORE of them could be going home… so who knows how many that will be.
The Canadian version of the show did the same thing… 17 designers on a boat i Toronto harbour. All were given 2 yards of white fabric and some sewing notions and 1/2 hour to come up with something. The loser had to sail away with
his model and never even checked into the hotel.
Maybe that’s why I didn’t see it as a huge shocker. I was thinking, “haven’t they done this before?” But it was just Project Runway Canada.
Is it really any different from season 1 (I believe) when they were sent fabric at home and to show up to the first show with their first dress already made? Some one would have to get sent home anyway.
The was the penultimate season 2… since that season, each year has been a steady decline. Although the Lifetime seasons have been absolutely dreadful.
Its not like there is a tour that they’re not making if they aren’t in the top 16, right?
I’m still trying to talk myself into watching this season in realtime if its going to be 90-minute episodes.
They must have had an extra week to fill because that’s all it is duh…The contestant’s reaction seem more stupid than ever. I LOVE this show but PLEASE this is no surprise! A real surprise would be like designing Lindsay Lohen’s jail clothes.
that’s not surprsing…
Didn’t they already do this in Santino’s season….they made dresses before coming and then got eliminated? SOOO not original.
The only surprise for me is how horrible Heidi’s haircut is. Supermodels should not have mom do’s.
I think her hair looks great!
Is it really a new season of PR if Heidi isn’t pregnant? Looks like this season might be lackluster.
Haha!
Nina Garcia is pregnant now but since these shows are done already she won’t be showing.
………Yep, Heidi Klum is still hot.
is it in LA or back here in Manhattan again ?
Manhattan, NYC… after the disaster that was season 6, Lifetime auf’d Heidi’s request to rotate LA and NYC every other season. That was Lincoln Center, the new home of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (starting this fall I believe.)
