Chad Ochocinco's 'Ultimate Catch': Oh, no(chocinco)

The NFL’s “most valuable personality” is magnetic on television. (I’m not the only one who loved the implied showmance between him and Cherly on Dancing with the Stars… and I don’t even watch that show.) He’s fantastic-looking, he’s unpredictable, and he calls everyone “mama” or “boss” or “love,” and it’s strangely endearing. But watching him wrangle 85 scantily-clad shrieking and giggling piles of hair extensions — I’m sorry, women — just felt like the worst possible vehicle for him. Last night’s The Ultimate Catch was anything but. [Shrill fake chuckle goes here!]

I’m biased against a lot of Vh1 dating-contest series because after someone does a shot out of someone else’s vagina, it’s like, do we even need more shows? But I guess we do. I just wish Chad Ochicinco weren’t the star of one. Professional football player has his pick of fawning female fans? Yeah, no kidding — pretty much anyone with even a shred of fame can get a dating show. But Ochocinco is a gifted athlete and a total showman; surely he could, oh, teach self-conscious nerds some swagger, or take a club-hopping tour across the country, or find new and creative ways to bump heads with the NFL honchos.

Did you watch Ultimate Catch last night, PopWatchers? Can you believe reality show contestants are still having fights about beds?

DON’T FORGET HE MOONLIGHTS AS A JEWLER!

  • GeeMoney

This dude is corny… and where do they get these chicks from?!?!?

    • Gina

      Pimps.

  • Ava

I thought I liked Ochocinco since seeing him on DWTS, but this show is sick in a bad way and we don’t need another reality show-Are there no more good writers in Hollywood for TV??????????

    • Gina

There are writers on reality shows too. Weren’t you mad when ANTM was delayed a few cycles ago because of the strike? If you think most of that “dialog” is spontaneous then you are right where networks want you to be.

Sorry, I didn’t like his showmance with Cheryl. She looked uncomfortable, and it made me uncomfortable. It got to the point where he seemed to be forcing himself on her. I don’t like celebrity dating shows so I won’t be watching this. I’m sure I’ll be seeing clips on The Soup, however, if it’s stupid enough…

    I agree.

The VH-1 reality/relationship show thing is TIRED as is, but adding an active and popular NFL player just seems odd and even more unnecessary than usual.

VH-1 is a vast wasteland of ghetto. Funny, though. They nevered pandered to Black viewers like they do, now. When we said we wanted diverse programming, this is not what we meant.

that show was sad!!i think they should cancel that show asap!!!

  • #85 Lover

I love me some Ocho but this show is ridiculous. There is no way that he is going to seriously date any of those females. Most look like there are just trying to get there 15 seconds of fame anyway…

  • Gleekster

I thought he had a lot of kids or catownersdating with him

  • Steve

Just another overpaid, over-sexed, megalomaniacal black athlete. Didn’t see anything cute or charming about him in “Dancing” either.

  • Watching EW

Wow. Ocho is definitely hilarious and this show will prove to be the foolishness I’ve been waiting for. lighten up everybody. Nobody expects him to find love and no one will remember these girls once the show is over. Take it for what it is. A silly and extreme version of the Bachelor.

    • Gina

Are you implying that Bachelor is legit?

  • cincygirl

Love me some Ocho Cinco!! Yes, the girls on this show are horrible but Chad is definitely worth watching!!
