VH1 counts down Lady Gaga's craziest outfits

Lady-Gaga-frog-dressImage Credit: Fame PicturesSince Lady Gaga popped on the scene a few years ago, she’s been known for her epic songs and sense of style. Last night, VH1 premiered its latest season of The Short List focusing on the pop star’s gift of outrageous garb, called 10 Craziest Lady Gaga Fashion Moments.

“That girl is on fashion crack,” proclaimed Barneys creative directer Simon Doonan as they counted down Gaga’s wildest outfits. No. 1o was the platinum lobster headpiece and chicken claw bracelet she wore to dinner at Mr. Chow in London earlier this year. No. 8 was her staple bubble dress. She’s worn different versions of it to perform and once on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.

When Gaga was scheduled to meet Queen Elizabeth last December, most people thought she’d arrive in something more casual. Those people were sadly mistaken. Gaga shook the Queen’s hand in a red latex gown, coming in at No. 6 on the list. No. 3 was personally my No. 1. Last July, Jim Henson was rolling in his grave, as Gaga wore a smock-like top made of Kermit frog heads. That fit was nuts.

No. 1. was the coned bra spitting fiery sparks she wore to 2009′s Much Music Awards. But really, ten outfits just aren’t enough to chronicle Gaga’s abundance of awe-inspiring costumes. What are your favorite Gaga outfits? Do you think VH1 placed their selection properly? Let us know.

Kevin Sorbo and Lee Majors lead Syfy development slate

Filed under: Television, TV and tagged: , ,

sorbo-majorsImage Credit: Kevin Winter/Getty Images/ Joe Scarnici/FilmMagicAmong the shows on Syfy’s development slate are two tongue-in-cheek half-hour comedies starring Hercules‘ Kevin Sorbo and The Six Million Dollar Man‘s Lee Majors, which could seem out of left field if you haven’t seen how good Sorbo looks recently or Majors’ recent guest spots on shows like Community (watch that one below). The seven scripted series in the works:

Me and Lee: ”A down-on-his-luck 20-something undergoes back surgery, only to find that the procedure did not go well. Enter Lee Majors, who claims he has the perfect solution. He entices the young man into his ultra high-tech lab and makes him bionic. Now intrinsically bound together, Majors tries helping his new partner get his life back on track.” If this sounds familiar, that’s because it was a pilot at Fox in 2007.

Legendary: “Kevin Sorbo plays an exaggerated version of himself… a former syndicated television series star. When a fan approaches Sorbo to enlist his skills in combating the underworld mythological creatures that threaten to destroy Los Angeles, an unlikely partnership is formed.  Together, they use their intimate knowledge of the myths of Hercules to defeat a myriad of beasts.” If this is as funny as Galaxy Quest – which was really funny — it could be promising.

Everyone's a critic: Sarah Palin knocks Obama's 'View' appearance

Sarah-Palin-Obama-ViewImage Credit: Mandel Ngan/Getty Images; Steve Fenn/ABCEarlier today, prolific (and creative!) Twitterer Sarah Palin tweeted about Barack Obama’s appearance on The View yesterday. Not surprisingly, she was unimpressed with the president’s hot topics, writing “President w/no time to visit porous US/Mexican border to offer help to those risking life to secure us,but lotso’ time to chat on The View? I’m headed to border in near future… let’s see how quickly his travel schedule will allow that border visit after all.” (Interesting gambit, turning it back on immigration. And here I thought she’d call out Obama for Snooki-gate.)

My friends and I often talk about celebrities whose Twitter privileges should be revoked. But when it comes to politicians — for the most part, at least — I think they all should be effectively banned from tweeting. Twitter’s just too flip a medium and the bad grammar just looks…undignified. That’s all well and good for my favorite celebs, but I don’t want to see it from people who may or may not want to lead the free world. Should Sarah Palin just resist the urge from now on? I mean, she won’t. But should she?

'30 Rock' live episode: Best idea yet?

30-Rock-Mom-MothersImage Credit: Ali Goldstein/NBCWith TCA, the networks’ annual press tour for the nation’s TV critics, in full swing, it’s officially time to start impatiently awaiting the return of our favorite shows. Today, NBC announced that Rob Lowe has been promoted to a regular on Parks and Recreation, which is great. But that’s eclipsed by the reveal that 30 Rock will do a live episode from Studio 8H on Oct. 14. (The cast will perform it twice, which makes me wish I was on the West Coast because you know late shows are always looser.) “I can’t imagine a series more suited to do an incredible live episode, thanks to its many cast, writers and producers, who hail from TV’s most renowned live series, SNL,” said Angela Bromstad, NBC’s primetime entertainment president. And that’s not spin. This really should be awesome.

I presume the episode will revolve around a live taping of TGS with Tracy Jordan, the show within the show. What do you need to see happen?

'American Idol': Jennifer Lopez can be a great judge -- if she avoids Ellen DeGeneres' mistakes

jlo-Ellen-DeGeneresImage Credit: Janet Mayer/PR Photos; Chris Hatcher/PR PhotosFor an American Idol fan like myself, the flurry of staffing shakeups this week at The House That Kelly Clarkson Built have been the emotional equivalent of taking a sledgehammer to an outdated kitchen wall. Yeah, you knew it had to be done — and quickly — but still…with all the dust and destruction and a possible contractor named Nigel who you’re still not entirely sure you trust, it’s hard to know whether to be terrified, excited, or a little of both.

That said, I’m genuinely optimistic about the widely reported rumor (still not officially confirmed by Fox brass) that Jennifer Lopez has snagged a permanent seat in this high-stakes game of musical judges. If I’m going to carry the “renovation” theme into this paragraph — and you know that I am, of course — then J.Lo is like that slab of luxurious marble that you can only hope will be a perfect fit for your countertop. Neil Patrick Harris makes silly joke about Silly Bandz

We’re all familiar with those silicone shape-bracelets called Silly Bandz, right? If you aren’t, then you probably don’t know anyone between the ages of 7 and 13, but take my word for it, kids are obsessed with these things. Funnily enough, it appears that Neil Patrick Harris is a fan of the craze too. In an appearance on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson last night, Harris showed off a few of his colorful bracelets, poking a little fun at his own sexuality in the process. The How I Met Your Mother star remarked: “[This one's] a rabbit, ’cause I’m a magician and I like magic. That’s a pineapple because I like pina coladas…This one’s a dolphin because I love dolphins. And this one’s a rooster because I love–” Ferguson interrupted the star, but the mere insinuation was hilarious. Watch the clip below. READ FULL STORY »

'Say Yes to the Dress: Atlanta': Oh my gawd, y'all. I'm excited

yes-to-dress-atlantaOne of my favorite reality shows (and your runner-up in EW’s Guilty Pleasures Reality TV Showdown) is headed south! And the show’s new installment, Say Yes to The Dress: Atlanta, which premieres tonight, is going to be a downright hoot.

Even before you watch a single clip, I can guarantee two things: 1) The customers are going to say things like ”downright hoot,” and 2) By the end of the show, you’ll be infected by the southern twang and have no choice but to adopt it by the rest of the evening. The scary thing? You’ll like it.

That aside, here are five reasons I’ll be tuning in tonight: READ FULL STORY »

Will Snooki and The Situation convince you to see 'Takers'?

jersey-shore-takersImage Credit: Emily Shur/MTV; Suzanne TennerOne of the odder moments on last night’s season premiere of Jersey Shore — and there were plenty to choose from — didn’t occur on Pauly D and The Situation’s road-trip down to Miami or during Snooki’s fried pickle feeding frenzy or when Angelina bum-rushed the shabby premises with her classy new luggage (all of which you can read about in Michael Slezak’s recap). No, it happened during the commercial breaks. Blurring the line between advertising and content to a disturbing (and head-scratching) new level, the infamous cast of Guidos and Guidettes were shown standing around, just hanging out, as they presented a trailer for Sony’s new action flick, Takers. And when the underwhelming clip was over, there they were again talking about how cool it looked and how they were definitely going to check it out like an octet of spray-tanned, thumb-waving Eberts.

Sylvester Stallone ponders 'Rambo' prequel

Filed under: Movies and tagged: ,

first-bloodImage Credit: Everett CollectionAnswering reader questions over at Ain’t It Cool News to promote The Expendables, Sylvester Stallone has left the door open for a Rambo prequel. “I certainly think this is worth pondering because it’s intriguing to find the whys and wherefores of how people have come to become what they are,” he says. “The traumas, the loss, and the tragedy of being in Vietnam would certainly be a great challenge for a young actor, and it would be ironic that Rambo directs younger Rambo after having played it for 20 plus years.”

While I agree with what Stallone says in theory, and would probably see the film because seeing Rambo movies is a Bierly family tradition, I don’t know that I actually want it to happen. Even though he’s fine with another actor taking on the role of John Rambo (which, I realize, should be all that matters), I can’t picture it. Somehow seeing him at war would take away the power of hearing him describe it at the end of First Blood. You’re hanging on his every word because it’s more dialogue than he’s spoken up till then and he goes from angry to broken before your eyes. It’d be like someone making a movie about a young Quint from Jaws surviving the USS Indianapolis. Robert Shaw’s monologue was such a perfect moment, I don’t want to experience it any other way.

What’s your position on a Rambo prequel? If you’re for it, who do you imagine in the role?
